  1. In South Africa, you generally cannot ride a pedal bicycle on a designated freeway (indicated by road signs) thats from a quick google and if im not mistaken that sign is after the marine drive off ramp. so unless you where on your way to Koeberg interchange you where good to ride there. i had a look at google maps and that sign in the distcnce is the freeway sign and its clearly after the offramp. pity you paid. should have taken it to court.
  2. @Thomo .. i have a big roll of bubble wrap for you.. just to be safe wrap yourself a few days before
  3. well said ... this is Cape Town after all .. all 4 seasons at the same time in different parts of the peninsula ....
  4. Yes i was disappointed .. and so was my two sons .... yes we will get over it .... and the safty of the entrants is way more important. Then there is also the fire ... thats a different topic as to why .... As for a refund ... i know they say no refunds .. and that costs has already been incured ... like Eddy say settle what must be settled .. and this is my opinion on the left over funds .... Split it evenly between the charities that they support .. including all the prize money.... AND.. make the amounts public ... it is after all our and sponsors money.
  5. Thats because they to light .... Us that have a few more kg around the middle ... wont blow over .... lol
  6. mm... i was about to get ready ... then my one son called from the start to confirm that the race was cancelled.. and that his brother can go back to bed ... I feel for those that travelled to Cape Town for the race .... PS : Since they changed the name from The Argus .... they only had one full race out of 3 .... thats not good stats ....
  7. and .. they announce this 2 1/2 days before the start .... why not make it from next year if they want to give the elite ladies a shorter route ... then they can at least train properly for it .... So now they trained for 109 km ... including 1 extra hill .... If they had known .. they could have adapted there training accordingly ... Sometimes i wonder if the organizers know how much there decisions affect the participants .. Maybe only if it effect the bottom line then they will worry.
  8. Why a shorter distance ... what happen to equality .... A woman's only start group i can understand.... Wont the men catch them and then have a problem going past them ....
  9. All the best .. hope he makes a full recovery ....
  10. Thanks i did that .. went thru fine
  11. I got mine before 2 and my son just got his .. still waiting for my other sons email ... we not slaapstad for nothing ....
  12. mmm ... Cape Town only awakes from our weekend slumber at about 10 on a Monday... then think about work .. (note THINK not actually work) from about 11 .... and actually start to work at 11:55 ( lunch is at 12 ... .. so expect email anytime tomorrow ... lol
  13. ....lol .. thats gonna be a very short list ...
  14. Nice race report.... What was your time ... i did Winelands as well ... i saw the 5h bus go past ... and waved to them ... Had a calf muscle injury as well at about 15 km .. but decided to finish .. I rested for the week ... did nothing not even ride ... The on Saturday .. did a half marathon (Titans Mitchels plain) .. nothing impressive .. muscle was still sore .. but i finished .. in the rain ... next for me will be Velocity Silverstroom on 19 December .... i hope i qualify on that one ... Oh yes i have entered Comrades and 2 oceans Ultra .. will be my first Ultra's .. done Cape Town Marathon thrice ... every year a little bit better .. but still no Sub 5. Training time is definitely an issue .. just cant get enough permission slips ... lol on a good week .. i do 25 km and another 20 or so on a weekend .. bad week 10 km in the week and 10 on a weekend ... Good luck and all the best to all that's doing there first Ultra and Comrades in 2016
  15. Wind ... just like the entries... Its a lottery and you only know on the day .... Both my boys got entries and i got with the first round .... i better think about training soon ...
  16. ..... lol ... yep lots ... Since the Tour is only 47 km..... and we not allowed to do two / three laps .... Not sure what F.R.A.I.L is gonna do .... he usually does 2 laps .......
  17. We sepnding more time reading and posting on this thread than most of us will ride on Sunday ...... Lets just go out there and ride... enoy the short ride .... and go and help with the fire ..... Yes i am disappointed ... but gonna make the best of the day and still make it special for my 12 year old first CTCT .....
  18. Or they can just pre-enter all of us for next year .... and gibe us a week to decide if we want to ride or cancell so that the entry can go to another perosn ......
  19. oopps Typo ..... Should be WITHOUT ....
  20. Took my 12 year old on his first Looong ride yesterday .... 82 km.... Went up Smits Winkel ..... showed him the tree as a marker for the top .... next thing he stands and just goes... i think he hit 25 km an hour for that last piece.... got to the top and cleated out ( first day with cleats) and fell the other way ..... In 6 months he gonna ride away from me ... already just about outclimb me on the steep sections. did the same think last week up Llandadno (hit 20 km on the last section with takkies) Just love spending time with them out on the road ... and trails and track Now just to get my daugter to ride with fairy wheels ......
