  1. Right so now Im confused... Did an FTP test tonight running trainerroad on my desktop and cycleops VT in free ride mode on my tablet... All settings the same on both programmes... Results from trainerroad - 2.8 W/kg Results from cycleops - 3.5 W/kg Using a cycleops jetfluid pro so I'm inclined to say that the cycleops reading is correct... From what I understand the guys at TR don't have the exact speed vs power curves and the extrapolate there own formulas Any thoughts or ideas?
  2. So what is considered a decent amount of gain in W/kg over a training block of say 8 weeks... more specifically on the power gain rather than loosing weight... Something like 2-4% increase in FTP considered decent gains?
  3. Sucking your wheel at the jock Scary thing is its only 6 weeks away
  4. Have you been sick lately or were you relatively well rested? I re-tested on monday after fighting bit of flu last week and i popped long before the end.
  5. I live in Henley on klip and usually do road rides out to Alberton and back on Saturday mornings. Anywhere between 100 and 130km. Avg speed 25-30 km/h
  6. Was just thinking to myself last week that im finally feeling healthy again after some flu and then over the weekend friends come over to visit and their two snot buckets came with coughing and spluttering all over the place... By Monday afternoon at work my chest was starting to get whoozie... not impressed with those kids at the moment
  7. Jeepers you got some serious steel in your arm
  8. @JarrydB9 Tend to prefer instagram over FB
  9. The roads around there are in pretty bad shape at the best of times and no real shoulders so would suggest taking your MTB and riding alongside the road and/or on district roads. if you want to ride on the road safest would be to drive through to meyerton area and do a ride from there, plenty route options.
  10. quite a nice search tool I found - http://www.drugfreesport.org.za/online-medication-check/ I use a combivent inhaler which according to that search is permitted. So then I don't need a TUE?
  11. By my understanding through this definition we have to do it through CSA and as long as the event we are riding in is sanctioned by CSA we are all subject to testing. That's my understanding from what I have read so far... someone to confirm?
  12. I am trying to find out the same thing... I have used an asthma pump since I was a kid and don't want to get into trouble now.
  13. Agreed if you doping with intention and cycling isn't your career and income then you have serious issues... but this is where my previous question about open/seeded testing comes from. How many of us are then not clean and not actually aware of it. When im sick I go to the doctor get antibiotics, for all I know what im taking is illegal but not intentional. Cycling isn't my career and I don't know what all the finer details of the rules are around doping. So if we are all riding in races should we then be expected to know the rules and be clued up if we are not racing for a career and not even in a licenced category?
  14. Im still fairly new to the racing scene and I have always wondered do they/can they test the open seeded groups as well?
  15. That's some good increase If I may ask what sort of training were you doing or programme you using?
  16. Haha... mine as of last night is 210W so that gives me 2.8 W/kg... up from 191W a few months back. Really felt like I had made better gains though. So what is considered a "good FTP" or W/kg for us recreational racers? I use the 2 x 8min test on TrainerRoad...
  17. Im still relatively new to all the power training but have become completely absorbed by it... I do all power based training on my cycleops training for now and will invest in a power meter for my bike in the near future. So I have now done two FTP tests over the last few months, in between I have been working with Trainer Road programs and after tonights FTP test I was rather disappointed, was expecting my FTP to have increased bit more. So what is your guys FTP and what is considered above average for us serious recreational riders that cant train every day of the week? Also how much should you expect your FTP to increase over a period of specific training around FTP?
  18. Those CWC repair stands were going like hot cakes, saw every second guy walking around with one. One of the guys at CWC said they sold nearly 500 since yesterday... also got some Rocket bibs for R250 to use for the IDT
  19. I think they saw the thread on guys cancelling their DSTV subscriptions... so how many of those guys are now going to renew that subscription
  20. Not sure how far south you are... But I saw I cadence display stand at UR cycling in Vereeniging on Friday. Didn't check what was in stock, but give Ian a call or mail him
  21. Taken at our place in the Timbavati during the holidays... (iPhone 5)
  22. I am not at all clued up on this sort of stuff but this is what I have been wanting to get set up at my place. For starters can someone please explain how you go about getting a Netflix or Hula account set up with us being outside the US?
  23. MY FIRST SUZUKI RM250 2-STROKE... THEN MY SECOND ONE JUST A NEWER MODEL WITH VERY LOW HOURS... AND THEN THIS HAPPENED... SECOND RIDE OUT. HADNT EVEN GOT A CHANCE TO PUT NEW NUMBERS ON HER...
  24. Back to square 1... Cycled on my IDT the other night and HRM worked perfectly with no spikes etc. The next morning on my commute to work i left both the HRM and computer on my bike but did not wear the HRM strap so that i could see if my watch was picking up the signal from the speed sensor but nothing happened. Then my ride yesterday afternoon took the computer off my bike but left the sensor on the fork and alas it started to spike again... I did however find that it only did this when i was riding down on teh drops, as soon as i sat up then it returned to normal. So it seems the speed sensor is disturbing the signal from my HRM sensor. Back to the original question, will the Polar coded transmitter fix this or will the signal it produces also be disturbed by the speed sensor of my computer?
  25. Wait for COSATU or Parliment to get invloved about quotas just like they doing with the Rugby at the moment
