  1. Aonijie Moderate Gale 2.5L Hydration Pack available to buy online at @TAKEALOT We offer fast, reliable delivery to your door. https://www.takealot.com/aonijie-moderate-gale-2-5l-hydration-pack/PLID56261841 About to pull the trigger on this vest. Anybody have experience with them? Must be honest, I would rather spend the R700 instead of the R2000-R3000 on the Salomons. Fitted it at the Run store in Bellville and spotted it for R300 less on Takealot.
  2. I have settled into a routine for my runs. Wake up about an hour ahead of the time I plan to run. Have a cup of coffee and browse the forums, news etc. 45 minutes after my cup of coffee I plonk myself down on the throne, insert my contact lenses and normally I’m out of the door on the hour. That said I have had to duck into the bushes on a few runs including one memorable time during Winelands marathon where the bush I chose was as popular as an Engine One Stop’s toilets on the N1. I have also lost a glove or two when I didn’t have a piece of white gold on hand as well as one buff.
  3. Backpack with a 1.5l bladder. Pre lockdown I had actually started shopping for a vest as I had come to the same conclusion. Either way getting a vest now will not be a waste.
  4. Since Sunday I have been pondering this. I done the Virtual Half Comrades using my hydration backpack and it was horrible. My calves and shoulders definitely felt it. Yet I don’t see any other way of doing things going forward? The carry my own movement is definitely going to pick up steam going forward.
  5. I done the 45km. I knew it was going to be tough, just didn’t know it was going to be that tough [emoji23]. Just before lockdown I ran a comfortable 3:28 at the Hemel en Aarde marathon which was quite a hilly route. I eventually collapsed at my garden gate today in 4:29 [emoji23]. Lockdown has made a big difference in my fitness.
  6. Cannot understand this. Have made peace with the no Comrades this year and revised my goals. Doing some treadmill work with lots of core and cross training. My revised goal for post Covid wil be a new 5km pb. Maybe even try and finally break that sub 20. Not gonna spend my lockdown running thousands of 70m loops around the house l.
  7. Hats of to you but I can never see myself doing that. Dusted off my treadmill, it will have to do for now. Alternatively, maybe I should start doing my route around the house using my trail shoes [emoji2363]. Has a sandy bit that just sucks the life out of me and dodging tree branches and the washing line every round is not my idea of fun.
  8. After 5km’s around my yard with elevation gain of 121m I found myself thinking that maybe the treadmill is not so bad after all. Will have to give it a decent clean and lube service today.
  9. I will continue training. If push comes to shove and Comrades is cancelled it might just push me into running a Washie if that isn’t cancelled.
  10. With me my left knee normally lets me know it’s time for a new pair of shoes. Have pushed a pair to about 1800km’s once but generally do about a 1000km’s on them.
  11. Anybody else blown from Caledon to Hermanus in the Hemel en Aarde marathon yesterday? That tailwind on the downhills my goodness [emoji15]. I enjoyed the race, ran quite conservatively until about 30km’s then dug deep to make my target time of 3:28. Those downhills with that tailwind hurt! Plenty of other people complaining that marketing it as a fast route was not quite truthful. I think if you had a look at the route profile you should have known what to expect though.
  12. Apparently the organisers of TOM have agreed to accept West Coast as a qualifier subject to prompt updating of your profile. This is as per the Cape Town Runners Community on Facebook.
  13. I had enough of those to just bite the bullet and get a watch. Demoralizing when you finish your run and see that [emoji2363]
  14. We here in Cape Town have been quite lucky with the addition of the False Bay 50km on the 10th May. Perfect date for the last long run.
  15. You missed an absolutely perfect day at Red Hill. Weather was great, no wind to speak of. It might not have been my fastest marathon yet but I finished the second half feeling absolutely great and thoroughly enjoying it. Instead of Peninsula or Cango I’ve decided to do the Hemel and Aarde marathon next. Perhaps consider that?
  16. Since I started running it has been in Maxed shorts and shirts. Refuse to pay Nike/Adidas etc prices on something I wear only when running and that’s gonna end up sweat stained in any case. In terms of durability it has lasted me longer than what I would have expected. Comfort wise also not too bad. Have done plenty of long runs in them with no chafing.
  17. Ok thanks. A 05:30 start sounds quite reasonable to me. Also get up at three on race days so that doesn’t seem strange to me as well. Then again, as a shift worker I am used to early starts.
  18. I’m confused. What time did it normally start?
  19. So far my only goal would be reaching Comrades injury free this year. I have entered Hohenorts 15km, Red Hill Marathon, Wietse’s Hemel en Aarde Marathon, Weskus (hopefully), Two Oceans and finishing off the prep with the False Bay 50km. Will probably throw in Tyger Run and Safari Half marathons as well.
  20. Two of my buddies received their confirmation emails as well. Both novices for the race. Starting to wonder if luck had anything to do with it. Edit: I checked a few of my club mates and friends quickly. Found only one that hasn’t been confirmed yet [emoji2375]
  21. So having done only two Oceans so far and with the draw today for those that have done seven and more I was quite surprised to receive my confirmation email today after the first draw. Makes me wonder if they perhaps overplayed their hand somehow with the whole ballot scheme.
  22. I do think there were lots more than three. The one guy I know of results still show on the app. Would have loved to see him disqualified.
  23. Entry in for the ultra as well. Would like to have some sort of reserve plan in place though.
  24. Was looking forward to confirmation of this event and was hoping that it would be a suitable replacement for Oceans. With such a late date though it doesn’t seem wise doing it with Comrades just a few weeks after.
  25. Is that the same route as the Wietse 50km run? If so I would have no problem with doing that race as I absolutely love his Gordon’s Bay to Kleinmond run.
