  1. Well that’s me for January. 31 for 31. Finished it off with a easy 8km run today. Here’s to the next 28 days [emoji1417]
  2. Anyone here doing the Brackenfell 10km tonight? Keep an eye out for me I’ll be marshalling between the 1 and 2 km mark.
  3. Congrats on the half [emoji1417]. My first Comrades I was feeling very sorry for myself at about half way, was chafing seriously, had totally cocked up my nutrition and had on the wrong socks which cause my feet to chafe inside my takkies as well. I walked up to the Benoni Northerns gazebo to beg for some vaseline but instead the lady there insisted I have some proper lube, something to eat and something to drink. I was treated like royalty and not even a club member. Left there feeling much better.
  4. Great can’t wait [emoji4]. Nothing better than seeing the sun come up on a run and not being out of bed at 04:00 to see it.
  5. Must admit my legs actually loved the walk after a few weeks of pushing it [emoji16]
  6. With the temperature at around 36 degrees today I’m seriously worried that I might fall out. Just can’t see myself on a bike or running today. Will have to wait until nearly seven or so for the temps to drop.
  7. They definitely worth the R30 contribution. The 30km run is excellent with those climbs in the last 10. Also the 40,54 and 50 km runs are great for Comrades prep.
  8. I have to actively try and remind myself to do it but it does definitely help. I notice on short runs where I’m pushing it that if I don’t breathe properly I tend to get stitches in my side quite easily.
  9. That is actually a very valid point. You can’t choose your race day weather so we actually do need to acclimatize out bodies. I’ve experience it for the past Cape Town marathons I’ve done where I train in quite cool weather and on race day the temp just spikes.
  10. I have the privilege/misfortune of being a shift worker. In my three week cycle I run in the mornings for two weeks with one week being forced to run in the afternoons. If I had the option I would only run in the mornings. Apart from the cooler weather it just starts my day of much better. Also then it’s done, no matter what happens during the day your run is sorted.
  11. I heard a nasty rumor that it’s cancelled due to sponsorship issues? Also didn’t see it on the WPA calender?
  12. [quote name="Frosty" post="3442102" timestamp="1547553357"I had the route downloaded on my Garmin, and was showing a 2:00:24 - 2:00:32 finish for the first 11Km, which I was happy with. It all went a bit pear-shaped the minute I started walking, but not as bad as I thought it would be; Nothing wrong with walking during a race. I bettered my pb at Safari half last year with a well timed walk half way up a uphill.
  13. By now even my garden engineer’s cupboards are full of running shoes [emoji23]
  14. It is really going easier for me than expected due to alternating between running and cycling snd then using at least one day for a recovery walk/easy day.
  15. I’m seeing the activities on Garmin Connect, it just doesn’t want to transfer it through to Strava. I have even tried manually uploading them but Strava doesn’t recognize the csv files I can download from Garmin [emoji30]
  16. Anybody else having problems with Garmin Connect not syncing with Strava? i’ve just disconnected the Garmjn connection from Strava and reconnected it. Still no joy.
  17. Geez not good I’m on that road quite regularly [emoji35]. Sorry to hear that.
  18. I had to really battle with myself yesterday as well. Terrible week behind me and all I wanted to do was chill and watch the cricket. With the wind howling outside there was no way I was going to get on the bike and I am not far enough with my rehab program to run on consecutive days. Eventually dragged myself out of bed and persuaded the wife to go for a walk with me. Think the shame of dropping out after only 10 days is what eventually persuaded me.
  19. I would love some feedback from guys using it while running as well. Apparently some guys mic it into a gel? Anybody willing to share their tips and tricks please?
  20. Just checked my Strava quickly. Closest I came to that was 20:54 at our club’s time trials. That was pre Comrades on high mileage legs though. Was aiming to better that until the tendinosis struck. 18 minutes is freaking quick for somebody that considers himself a non runner.
  21. Just discovered I’m neither a runner or a cyclist [emoji15]
  22. Argh I don’t know if I’ll make it or not. Have just started running again and am seeing the doc tomorrow to confirm if I can start training properly. There is still more than enough time for the training, just hope I get the go ahead tomorrow [emoji1431]
  23. Joined as well. Should be interesting to see how far this battered body will take me.
  24. I’ve been saying that for years [emoji23]. The majority of my colleagues are at their happiest when they have something to complain about.
  25. Wow. That is seriously impressive [emoji15]
