  1. I used to think that my body loves Farbars until Comrades this year. Seems that after 40 km’s it only accepts real food but carrying bananas, potatoes and date balls can get quite messy. If you don’t want to rely on aid stations the best is having someone waiting for you at a prearranged location. The only option that might work is using a hydration pack but not everyone can run with one.
  2. You want to feel crap try chasing a 60 year old lady at 4:20/km and still not catching her [emoji23]. Definitely lots of rock stars here. Can’t wait to start running again and maybe seeing some Hubbers on the roads.
  3. That’s a challenge we thankfully don’t have to deal with. Spent two weeks in a Paris winter and after the first attempt at running in that cold I gave up on that idea. No amount of layering could keep that cold out.
  4. I never could run on a treadmill. Besides in winter you only feel the cold for the first kilometer. If the temperature is double digits I only wear a t-shirt and shorts. If it’s single digits i wear a long sleeved running short and maybe running tights as well.
  5. And entries closed again. For interests sake, how does Om die Dam compare to Two Oceans in terms of entries taken up?
  6. What [emoji15] glad I got my entry in then. If we start moving towards a lottery system for all these ultras it’s going to put a stop to my plans of getting my green/blue numbers before my 50th.
  7. Been struggling since ten. Might as well give up and wait until midnight.
  8. Seabee of all the marathons I missed out on since my injury I miss Winelands the most. I prefer it to Cape Town Marathon and have always run better times there than CT. Always funny how quiet everyone becomes once they hit the gravel [emoji23]
  9. Ok was Winelands this Saturday in Stellenbosch and that has quite a sting in it’s tail. Gravel climb after about 30km making it quite interesting. Well done on qualifying. From the looks of things I’ll only be able to qualify from February next year. Already started having running nightmares [emoji1748]‍[emoji3603]
  10. Which marathon was this Mudsimus?
  11. Shees that’s rough hey. Know the feeling of trying to finish a race without being able to run a km without stopping. Itb shouldn’t be the end of it for you though. I made a successful recovery from it years back and haven’t looked back since.
  12. Geez Stretch I thought it’s just us back of the pack runners that struggle with those last five km’s. Well done on your pb though [emoji106][emoji2534]
  13. Didn’t enter but rode part of the route on the way to meeting my wife in Malmesbury. Yoh those winds were bad. When I saw the t-junction approaching I thought after my left turn things would get better. Wind just tuned ja right [emoji100]
  14. You only need to submit your qualifier by beginning May if I’m not mistaken.
  15. Does that mean three downs in a row? Up 2019 down 2020 down 2021 up 2022 or down 2022?
  16. This is me not suffering from fomo at all [emoji30]. Geez the okes ran fast times at the CTM and Gun Run. Would have loved to do it but according to the doctor I’ll most likely only start running January next year [emoji30]
  17. The races where I actually ran negative splits were where I started deep in the pack forcing me to run the first few km’s much slower than normal. It is a great feeling when your fastest km’s of the race are your last few.
  18. Doesn’t work on my Fr935 unfortunately [emoji17]
  19. I used to think that Itb was an irritating injury but man was I wrong. Scary thing is it looks as if I ran through Comrades with this. What bugs me is that it seems to be worsening now as I feel the pain constantly especially when walking. Putting on pants has become a mission. Strangely enough no pain when cycling.
  20. Well I’m feeling quite down today. After months of misdiagnosis, seeing four different physios, a sports doctor and a chiropractor I ended up at the Sports Science Institute in Newlands yesterday. Turns out that what I thought was some adductor tendonitis initially and what has been diagnosed as osteitis pubis could very well be a pubic ramus stress fracture. This obviously sucks big time for me. Am going for a MRI on Monday morning to confirm but the doctor seems quite sure and after putting all the warning signs and symptoms together from the past few months it does seem extremely likely. So definitely no running for me for the next couple of months. Already missed Cape Town Marathon and will miss Winelands as well. If I can still run Comrades and Oceans next year it will be a battle to get the fitness levels up and qualify in time. Anybody else have some experience with injury? Running and hiking is a no no but would I be able to continue cycling? Suppose I should stick to the road? Years ending very badly for me [emoji30]
  21. I’ve come to realize that anything longer than a half and my body starts rebelling against gels. Comrades this year I ended up using a quarter of the gels I intended using and relied on foods at the water tables. Far bars work better than gels but only up to a point.
  22. Out of principal I wouldn’t buy another device via vitality. Left a nasty taste in my mouth few years back when they all a sudden changed the points allocation. A person doing a park run all of a sudden scored more points than my 2:00-2:30 hour long run on a weekend. They eventually rectified it and you could apply for the endurance and high performance category but ja, once bitten twice shy and all of that. When I graduated to marathons I bought a Tomtom runner 3 via Fnb’s devices, paying it off over 2 years worked out cheaper than buying one cash.
  23. I’m decided (been forced) to not run it. Still recovering from what might be osteitis pubis although the X-rays are clear. Rather seems to indicate lateral pelvic tilt. Still haven’t run since Comrades.
