  1. I'm with you Mampara... I had a long look at the manual when I got mine - and for the briefest moment in time, I actually knew the answer to this... I THINK(???) it had something to do with the speed of - aw stuff it - I can't remember... Here's the thing though: I did that Fork maintenance workshop with JB about 2 years back - which was about a month after I had just bought the fork. In the process of me doing what you did - without realising it - I lost that teeny little ball bearing... I've never got round to finding a bb shop to get a replacement - with the effect that my dail now turns slightly, every time I lock-out or release again... It's probably been at the extremes of its turn at various times over the last few years, both ways... And you know what - never noticed it making the slightest difference...
  2. Thanks freaky-yellow-smiling-head man - is the Paarden Island shop close to that Northgate Island shopping centre (the one with the Cycle Lab store in it)??
  3. Yes, it would appear karma has a sense of humour... Just yesterday, stupid, stupid me, says to the wife: "You know, I haven't been spending that much money on the bike at all this last while..." Today - up the usual route - and out of nowhere, chain starts slipping like crazy at the back... Replaced the chain about 3 weeks ago - and despite warning from LBS - all went smoothly. Was convinced I had dodged the proverbial bullet... Appears not. Whilst I'm still scratching my head as to how things went from "all ok" to cassette break-dancing in the space of a day - I guess I am overdue on a replacement at the back - so cannot really complain... Holding serious thumbs no blades need to be switched...
  4. Oh touche!
  5. Aaahhhh. This might explain why voting is going rather slow. Alternatively - maybe no-one gives a continental B) Tankman - vote - go on, I know you want to! Don't worry about jinxing me - will be looking at replacing them shortly. Or rather - selling them on the Hub WITH A HUGE WARNING SIGN AND REFERRAL TO THIS THREAD! See my cunning plan now, M'lord?
  6. Size might help - just a thought.
  7. Love my Vermarc as well - paid R1,5k for them - but well worth it, imo. Depends on what model chamois you go for, I think... Best bib-shorts I ever had, were a pair of "Series" - which I believe had old-season Assos chamois in them... Made in Bulgaria, or some odd place Balkan side, if i recall correctly... They weren't too expensive - and soooper comfy... Wish I knew where to get hold of a few pairs again... Anyone?
  8. So here's something to pontificate on - with no way of confirming either way(?) which answer is correct or more likely... On the assumption that my (by now) 2/3 year old KCNC Scandium stem and bar needs replacing - since with their reputation being what they are, they're likely to snap at some point in the not-too-distant future - which one would in all likelihood go first? 1.) The stem - since the pressure on the handelbar in acting as a lever/leverage against the stem, would probably result in catastrophic failure at the stem's bolt-holes [old Hubbers - you remember that pic on the forum some years back, taken of one of our Hubber's dad's racing bike KCNC stem - was it Spinnekop(???)] 2.) The bar - since all that leverage pressure would presumably see a catastrophic failure near the stem - possibly even in the 'oversized' part of the bar? Cast your votes! Fanks B)
  9. I'm running a conversion - had the LBS do it more than 2 years ago... They lose a bit of air over the course of a few days - but force of habit sees me pumping/checking the tyre pressure in any event, each time before I ride... Takes all of 30secs per tyre - so no biggie... As I said - I probably don't have to all the time - but didn't once, and spent half my ride staring down at the wheels, convinced they were too flat etc etc etc... Since then, I prefer not to let my OCD get in the way of a fun ride...
  10. Hi-jack on I cannot stress how underrated the art of levitation is - particularly in the everyday application of avoiding mud. Give it a try - practising is sometimes a b!tch - but the results are well worth it. Hi-jack off
  11. I don't get the problem here? Prof. Dungu's a legend. I see my enemies in the mirror all the time now. It's scary. But hey. Better than seeing my face.

    8 vs 9 vs 10

Uhhh - ja, what he said!
  13. What about Momsen(?) Designs?
  14. And so the plot thickens...
  15. Think I'm going to try one of the other extensions - and should I get through to someone else - have another go - maybe I'll get lucky! [ha ha]
  16. Oooo boy. Apologies for making my problems all of yours Just spoke to a lady at Capemail. With no tracking number - all she can do is do a check under my Surname. Which she did - nothing. Told her it was posted on 7 September. She says it normally takes between 10-12 days - so it should've been logged by now. I ask her if it might still be at the JHB office. She says nope - they would'nt have logged anything - but simply seen the address as being a WC one, and forwarded it along to the Cape Town office, where it would then have been logged for the first time... So I ask her - is it lost then? She says: "With my surname - it's quite possible that someone might have entered the name incorrectly on the system, and then it would'nt be picked up..." [stunned silence on my side]... End result - wait it out for a bit longer: 1.) If it was logged under the incorrect surname, and no customs duties were owing - it would be forwarded along to the SAPO - I must simply keep checking VS 2.) If it was logged under the incorrect surname, and customs duties are owing - I will eventually recieve notification in the mail - and then I can take it further... Joy.
  17. I'm watching this thread with interest - am in the same boat, Shebeen!

    8 vs 9 vs 10

My 2 cents - when I started cycling again, 8-speed killed me since I knew most others had 9... mental thing, I guess Now that I'm cycling fit again - I'd only "upgrade" in the event that I bought a new bike, that had the 10-speed on as standard... Each to his own, I guess... Google it - and you'll find lots of marketing-talk about the advantages of a 10-speed vs a 9-speed... just like I'm sure was doing the rounds when we were all being convinced about the difference between a 8-speed and 9-speed... [As an aside - don't get me started on the whole 4-blades on a razor issue... ]
  19. A.W.E.S.O.M.E. I'm generally quite good a queues - so let's see how this goes...
  20. Have certainly become that way inclined! Might still use Royal Mail /SAPO for the really small things - but other than that - will be forking out the cash in future, purely for the peace of mind that comes with a tracking number... With this being said - I'm only in Week 3 - so maybe I'm being too optimistic... Though - yours took 5 weeks over Chirstmas, which might explain things?
  21. Thanks Capricorn - you've potentially just saved me hours. Googled "Customs Office Cape Town" - was told I need to phone CapeMail - given as 021 534 7435 - but was warned to be paitent, as they only have one phoneline... Tried 6 times already - always engaged Going to give yours a try now, and see what happens!
  22. Might just pop up a seperate thread about this, if I cannot find anything on the Search option - maybe someone will spot this andf be able to help? Fired off an email to CRC, and received a very sweet and apologetic(?) reply back from Melissa, who amongst other things, has suggested I contact my local Customs office, and check whether the parcel isn't sitting there, waiting to be collected... Anyone have the phone number for the local Customs office - presumably in Cape Town... I guess I had better check JHB's too... Fanks!
  23. In words please - if possible - for those who missed it...
  24. Thanks Seabee - good to know I'm not alone in this! I've been up to the tower a few times - and noticed the green as well, fortunately, I've been lucky in that the times I've been up it hasn't covered the whole road - which has meant I could hammer on the way down .... Still want to go all the way around to the back - haven't been that way in ages, battle to find the time these days - but agreed - views are amazing! Hope you find your mtb legs soon again!
