probably leaking, was a problem with the HR straps from the Rider35 and older. contact bryton on their facebook page and they should swap it out for you with the Gen 2, or at least that's what they did for me.

could be the fact that they 9 speed? all the bikes that come out now are 10 speed so thats maybe why?

maybe go have it checked out by your LBS, should take a good mechanic a whole of 5 seconds to look and let you know if its the derailer or if its just been installed incorrectly

I didn't end up going to VG in the end, went to Groenkloof and managed to do a whole 15min riding before I made a nice little hole in my tire and then a snake bite in the spare tube, must have been karma for not going to VG

you sure your derailer isn't clamped too high on the frame? when on the largest chain ring there should only be a tiny bit of clearance between the chain an top of the derailer?

you can replace the cassette with what ever you can get your hands on, Shimano or Sram as long as its the same speed cassette (9, 10 etc) you can even replace with a deore cassette, will just be heavier and slight different design to the XT
