  1. Agreed, its an incredible destination. Especially in spring when the flowers are out in the renosterveld!
  2. Let me mention a few specific spots: Dangerous spots I avoid: William Nicol underpass and the immediate surrounds Ballyclare Road and surrounds Spots I'm wary of but ride: Albert's Farm Top end of Emmarentia at Judith Road Small Bridge by Tana Road
  3. I ride it most days of the week and have done so for a few years and not been shot yet. Anecdote isn't proof but it's not exactly Mogadishu.
  4. Also owned and run by an old Bikehub legend
  5. too many associations with Britain
  6. This new route looks more fun than 2019 - getting excited!
  7. Fingers Crossed also well worth visiting - won't get much better coffee in Joburg.
  8. Got my seeding, can anybody help me understand the groups? got it https://ridejoburg.co.za/start-times/
  9. Pretty cool looking bike though!
  10. If you're going to make a habit out of a post-ride coffee, surely supporting some smaller local company is a better idea than a chain? Fortunately Bootleggers wasn't mentioned...
  11. Have a look at the Merida big nine, great value for money and many lightly used ones available on the Classifieds.
  12. Very nice! So is that old fork for sale? ????
  13. I think I've burned too many bridges there ????
  14. Couldn't find another thread like this but thought some of you might enjoy a few of the wonders occasionally listed on this hive of infamy
  15. Another option is the potentially ugly and jerry rigged carbon fibre tube, there are some examples of this online - really depends on how safe you want to feel riding it and how good you want it to look.
  16. Got that seatpost too, and it works so well I regularly look down to see why my tyres feel so flat
  17. My 2 cents is that maxing out and "vomiting on the field" is going to be counter productive. You can have a read on Zone 2 training if you like - there is a lot of benefit to keeping your heart rate fairly low and using those "easier" rides to build a strong base. Don't get caught in the trap of trying to upgrade your way to fitness with gear either.
  18. I'm hunting for something similar. BPA free does not mean BP-S free, and some new health implications of those substances have recently come to light that have made me rethink my cheap plastic bottles. Woolworths and Clicks both on occasion have reasonably priced stainless steel sports water bottles. Should not clank around too much in the right bottle cage. Klean Kanteen and Superdry as well as others make these too. I would be wary of Aluminium, apparently many of them have inner liners that release significantly more BPS or BPA than even low grade plastic bottles, and worst of all, some double-walled versions have lead plugs in contact with water. Keego looks amazing but that price is steep. https://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20110712/some-aluminum-water-bottles-leach-bpa
  19. My Garmin watch has this functionality, I'm sure many competitors do too.
  20. Lots of energy going into this Friday banter. Don't let up, Wade is coming soon.
  21. You're totally right, EXCEPT - facebook marketplace has comments ????
  22. Resurrecting an ancient thread to ask what's probably a dumb question - are the 120 and 140 frames essentially the same, with small changes to stroke length or rockers or something along those lines? I rode both yesterday and was curious.
  23. Yes sir, after another *** experience with a seller in the east rand who promised me the bike was mine, refused to accept upfront payment or a deposit, and then kept delaying our meeting due to 'family affairs' before selling to someone else, and then another *** experience with a very active reseller on the west rand who told me his bike was in 'perfect conditon' except the shock was broken and needed a full overhaul and the fork stanchion had a chip in and etc etc etc ... you know how it goes. I agree, judging by your messages you are not nearly as forthright a buyer as you first made out and I have my popcorn ready for the rebuttals! ????
  24. I didn't pay a deposit but made both verbal and written agreements, only to have sellers renege / block me / take higher offers etc etc. It's happened to me so many times that there is no chance I'm doing a deposit deal with anybody unless they have perfect 5 star ratings going back to the time of Moses. And even then you're taking chances.
  25. This kind of behaviour is endemic here, unfortunately. You'll find a surprisingly large percentage of users blaming you and not the seller. Oh well.
