  1. Been riding the Forekaster for a few months and while it's not a bad tyre at all, it blows up quite small on 25mm rims. To the point that both the Ikon and the Ardent I tried at the back were bigger, which both looks weird and psychologically messes with my already low confidence. Rekon 2.6" at the front going on next. Not much heavier and should provide better grip on loose dusty ground.
  2. False. You're assuming the reseller is revealing the same information and being equally as upfront about defects. Some aren't.
  3. It's close to impossible to score a bargain on a dual suspension mountain bike on here. Be prepared to wait a long time and click refresh a lot. Or just pony up the extra R10k that some idiot who doesn't know the difference between a tallboy 2 and a tallboy 3 is going to ask for a frame that he paid his gardener to wash. Good luck and try to have fun.
  4. Has anybody seen a gen 4 Cotic Escapade in SA? I'm curious!
  5. At least you'll look good doing it 😗
  6. Nope there are alternatives, just pricey ones - check this out - https://eu.ritcheylogic.com/eu_en/wcs-carbon-adventure-gravel-fork
  7. Thanks, these are unfortunately a bit on the porky side for what I'm trying to do. Pity the Ritchey forks are so pricey...
  8. ah I see - it looked like a straight steerer on the photos which is what I'm after, but I guess it's actually tapered.
  9. Pee at the start gate of your race. Ideally on your opponent's bikes. That'll buy you some time while also asserting dominance.
  10. Your body will definitely take more damage on a gravel bike, in the sense of wrist vibrations, corrugations through the seat, potentially tension in the neck and shoulders if you experience stress from rough trails etc. Some of these you can mitigate through equipment, some is just part of the fun of a simple rigid bike. If the question is "can a gravel bike do double duty for your road races", the answer is of course yes!
  11. It's effectively zero. I'm on 47mm gravelkings in reality.
  12. It's as worth a shot as anything else, mostly because it looks cool.
  13. This ticks every single one of my boxes. Incredible paintjob too!
  14. Thanks, I will send you a PM.
  15. Hi Marc, it's a centre lock hub - my wheelset is an older Bontrager XXX 29", which I believe has 240 hubs? https://www.trekbikes.com/international/en_IN_TL/equipment/cycling-components/bike-wheels/mountain-bike-wheels-wheelsets/bontrager-xxx-29-tlr-disc-mtb-wheel/p/11445/
  16. Hi all, I'm on the hunt for hen's teeth again, in the form of 9mm Thru Axle end caps for my 240 front hub. Weird fork = weird problems. I believe this image attached is the correct kit, please let me know if anybody has a set lying around.
  17. In my opinion the only one worth taking is the My Wellness - Nature's Whey. It's unflavoured. Bubblegum and Oreo flavour is for kids.
  18. Was a nice race. The organisation at the start when the boards were handed out was absolute chaos. Trail markings also left something to be desired. I was in the A bunch and we also had a whole group of people turning back on the trail saying we had taken a wrong turn. A bit muddy, some parts of the trails a bit unkempt, but overall a great day out with competitive but friendly riders.
  19. I'm in the market for a CAAD8 myself and I definitely wouldn't choose many modern bikes over it. It's a fantastic frame with a large fanbase for a good reason. Sounds like your freehub might be damaged - if I were you I would take it to Nils at woodstock cycles. Meanwhile, pick up a decent set of wheels on the bikehub and you should be golden. It should be a a half hour exercise to swop your cassette over and get the shifting dialled and get back to riding. In my opinion, better than getting a whole new bike before a race that you've been anticipating.
  20. Just out of curiosity, what do you mean seized up? There is still plenty of time to have a bike repaired.
  21. We haven't even gotten to the topic of "mint showroom condition" bibs yet!
  22. I wouldn't recommend Anatomic, the things I have of theirs have been poor quality and fit. I'd second getting a higher quality second hand piece - I bought two Rapha shirts for under a grand together that are far better than what I could've gotten new, and they still look very close to mint. Otherwise, Ciovita is great.
  23. So many recommendations here, but let me add another. If you hardly ever ride 'gravel', just get a set of good puncture proof road tyres. The best out there in my opinion are the Pirelli Cinturatos. They go up to 35c, which will be perfect for a bit of off roading, and they are going to be a good few percent faster on your road rides. Unless you really ride a lot of gravel there's no need to hamstring your road performance.
