Some potholes weren’t attended to either. Costs are creeping closer to 947 entry but without road closure. I’ve missed one event since 2007, due to dislocated AC-joint in a 2013 crash. I feel 2023 will be my last one.

The cost of an annual GCN+ subscription is/was equal to the monthly cost for Premium.

I asked Steven (CSA Official) at number collection. The yellow board is a timing board and frame number, as opposed to have the Faces timing number and a frame number like last year. In 2021 when they first issued the timing board, as a frame number, the bib number matched. The problem came up in 2022 as the timing board number and frame/bib number didn’t match, and therefore doesn’t comply with UCI regulations. This was a problem at other events that used the Faces timing board with bib numbers not matching. The WhatsApp message is quite clear, too:

Time, for me, is not as important as a good finish position. At least I’m guaranteed a top 100 position if I cross the finish line. This is my TrainingPeaks goal; set back in May 2023. Can’t put top 20 in the position field, but that would mean a good ride. edit: it’s the start group position, not overall.

WBD own Eurosport, Discovery+ and TNT Sport. BT Sport has been rebranded into TNT Sport, with Eurosport to follow after the Paris Olympics. Seems Discovery+ is the streaming service, while I would assume TNT includes satellite /cable. Guessing? Subscription to Discovery+ is £6.99 per month, or about R150-odd per month, assuming a VPN connection works. I guess we will have to wait for the announcement from WBD in the (near) future. It allows me to start the sign-up process provide I’m “in the UK”.

Given the news about GCN+, the documentary Behind the Lens was a cool episode. A beautiful race in a beautiful country, so some of the photos were incredible.

Me too. As I’m 533km ahead of plan, will look to have that week off too; or rather just doing a slow 30km when I want to, while also dipping my toes in the cold Atlantic waters of Kleinmond.

The message about WBD “consolidating its streaming services and to offer content in fewer places” possibly means someone like DStv has the rights in SA, so we won’t get it here. For Eurosport, one needs a EU credit card to be able to pay for their subscription. Hopefully the App Store can allow in-app purchases, which might resolve it.

I’d happily pay R799/year with crappy commentary if it meant I had access to every race. They will credit you pro-rata.

Some goals for 2024 will mostly likely be similar, at least for distance, elevation and duration.
