  1. Yip certainly a red flag that one should consider
  2. I have a lot of faith in my fellow hubbers. Yes I have sent cash and hoped like hell my faith was not unfounded and to date I have not been disappointed. I suppose there is always a chance first time. Basics like checking the number of posts, when the hubber joined etc can help you decide who to trust and who not too. I also agree that as part of a hubbers profile we should be able to see personal details such as phone numbers, addresses, memberships to CSA/TSA/ASA etc. You could then at least in part verify the identity of the person you are buying from. In the end though common sense, good judgement not to mention a little faith should be enough.
  3. people wear them cause they look cool and everyone else has one
  4. if you dont want to be in the top 10 you dont need a tri suite for this. get yourself a pair of jammers and a running vest or t-shirt. on short cycle distances like this you dont need the padding.
  5. I think what we need is a centralized payment and membership system. the club loads your details on centralized website. you go on website and pay club membership and csa/tsa/asa etc one payment. the system then distributes the monies accordingly to club and relevant associations and does the member registration on csa/tsa/asa systems. the system can then also track and provide licensing info to associations, clubs and event organizers. ambitious but possible.
  6. Quick question. Once people have paid their fees on the CSA site does the club get any form of communication from the CSA to say there are member applications waiting for approval ? If not how does the club know they must approve memberships ?
  7. i do triathlons. if you participate in any run events it is compulsory to wear a club vest and ASA running numbers front and back. This year it seems the ASA have not printed the running numbers in time
  8. sat or sun ?
  9. yes correct
  10. crc and royal mail does not work folks. i have waited up to 8 weeks. before you order from CRC try CWC first. this morning on a order of R3000 for components CWC where cheaper than CRC.
  11. trying calling troisport or cyclelab. both have members big into IM etc and am sure they have a saturday or sunday club get together somewhere. otherwise i have been told sunday @ germies at 6am on the opposite side to where the last energade tri event was.
  12. I have been a keen cyclist for some 15+ years and have been a member of a number of different cycling/sports clubs over the years. I have noticed a drive by the various sporting bodies TSA/CSA and ASA to get the good folks to become members of clubs and in so doing promoting and assisting the development of the various sports. Now all fair and well but all the above bodies and some of the clubs I have been associated with (I shall mention no names) just don’t seem to have their membership processes and procedures in place not to mention the lack of communication between clubs and associations. They are all too keen to take your money but once they have done this they don’t seem too keen on actually recognizing or confirming the fact that you have paid and are now a bonafide paid up member. Some of the problems experienced where paying and then waiting months and having to argue and provide proof payment was made, another was waiting months for membership cards, another is no running numbers for 2011 yet another is trying to get club and association to talk to each so I can get membership approved. This does not seem to get better as the years go by it gets worse. I find this very frustrating and amazing considering the improvements and availability of technology like the internet to assist with this. The big question of course is am I a isolated case (I doubt it) or is there a general problem and what should be done to improve the situation ? Perhaps I have joined the wrong clubs ?
  13. i have been a cyclist for some 15+yrs. i started doing triathlons in 2010 and am totally hooked. my wife, kids and mates all think i'm a crazy old geezer. i just love generating sweat at 4h30am
  14. i'm glad i did not get one for xmas
  15. when at swimming at heia safari never mind the giraffe and other wildwatch watch out for the hippo the water at germies is just lekker just dont drink it
  16. i just placed an order for components with the cwc online store their prices where as good as CRC. On an order total of R3000 they where R200 more expensive BUT cwc price included VAT which makes them cheaper then CRC
  17. Placed an order with CRC which was shipped on 1 July 2010. 1 Chain, 1 Cluster, 1 Stem. The order arrived late last week a whole 6 weeks later. Not only this they packed the cluster and stem in the same floppy envelope. Guess what the stem is ruined looks like a hail damaged car. Initially after week 2 I complained the order was late and was told I had to wait 35 working days before they would re-process the shipment or consider a refund. Consequently I had to purchase the goods locally or go without 4 weeks of pre-season training? Then when the goods arrived they arrived damaged! What sort of idiot puts a cluster and stem in the same envelope without protective wrapping or boxing? Now I need to pay more to ship the stuff back ? A big thank you to my fellow hubbers for supplying me with the parts I needed at decent prices and a big thumbs down to CRC for gettings everything wrong.
  18. Glad to see my LBS Westdene cycles is not included in the list. Been going to Westdene for almost 20 years. They have the best prices in Joburg and discounts are always negotiated and vary considerably based on the color of your money. Cash is king. Thanks to Faizel and Faruk.
  19. Ja boet. Its just not funny is it ! A few years ago I also had my Bianchi dissappear on me between Capetown and JHB. Now how you feel . I hope you have insurance of some sort.
