  1. Not so sure about the shaving legs part but I have been seriously considering shaving my chest. I have been doing some marathons and a rather peculiar thing has materialized "bleeding nipples" especially when doing 21 and 42 km runs so tried attaching plasters to the affected areas and I can tell you when you try remove the plasters its no funny business. I have not got to the shaving part but its gonna have to happen sooner than later
  2. Has anyone use this crank before "Carmina" ? Opinions ? other considerations are local supply ? servicing, tools, parts, not too mention PRICE http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/carmina.asp
  3. Never use Royal mail option, you dont get a tracking number and you will WAIT a very long long time. I ordered "Parcel Force" 28 Feb arrived 8 March. 6 working days no issues. If you got delays it is almost definitely NOT CRC.
  4. I have bought some stuff from CRC and too a large extent have never paid duties. VAT only. I think though this may change in the future if SA gets more local bicycle manufacturers like Raleigh. I have found generally that the pricing from other suppliers like CWC to be very competitive if not better than importing from CRC.
  5. Damn and I thought we were gonna discuss something interesting like "Tige? Brand?" ?
  6. In a few races In joburg I have seen a cyclist with 1 leg. Watch out boet !!! he'll put you to shame
  7. age ! you and me both.
  8. Sorry folks this type of thing drives me nutty. When are we as a people going to realize there is only so much oxygen to go around. The planet can only support so many people. There are already toooooo many people. You cannot keep breeding in an uncontrolled fashion and simply expand and expand ... its fricken crazy. I was watching "the cove" on TV last night and was disgusted by what I saw. What we do need to do is come up with a plan to control and reduce the amount of people on the planet. As an economics grad I understand how things work in the world but it cannot continue like this
  9. I quote "The conservation area will be left untouched and incorporated into the new development" ... ye right ... and just how long will it be before the newly established locals who dont give a rats ass about conservation obliterate this. I also noted the words water works and "future expansion". Surely the water treatment works needs to be expanded first and then settle in the new folks in. As usual the essential items that require government spending are being left to last or not at all. What about the roads that will be carrying in huge amounts of additional traffic ? I live just off Beyers and cannot see how this is gonna work, Beyers and other roads into Joburg are a nightmare ! lets just add a few more thousand motorists. AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH. This all sounds far to familiar. OK maybe I'm just being a tad negative and a prat ?
  10. See you there
  11. Yip a firm favorite of mine over the last 20 years. I think I should go ask for my share certificate.
  12. Shooo 36 km/h no wonder everyone was single file. They were all out of breath and struggling to maintain pace
  13. Could'nt agree more ... everyone is so paraat these days
  14. On weekends its almost impossible not to have a few beers. I regularly drink 2-3 (340ml) beers the night before a race or training ride. If I drink draft then 1 max 2. Unless you intend to be on the podium its got to be about enjoying yourself the night before and on the day otherwise why do it ?
  15. the big question is just how serviceable are SRAM road shifters. I just had my DA7700 rear shifter give up the ghost with no options of service or repair. Can you buy spares for SRAM road shifters ?
  16. Cant these people just get a regular job like everyone else
  17. Never done an full Iron man before but boy after finishing a 90km cycle and then telling your body it now needs to run a 21km my body seems to go into complete shock, it takes a good 5 to 10 minutes before muscle memory kicks in and the body then realizes this is is actually something it has done on many occasions before. Getting out of the water and then cycling is not so bad but the cycle run changeover can be quite a shocker.
  18. Before joining Troisport I used to just buy a day license for whatever race I entered. This is still the case however to do the ultra distance for 2 oceans it seems you cannot buy a day license and you must have club membership. Randburg Harriers is R520 for the year. http://www.randburgharriers.co.za/Harriers%20Best%20Site/fees/fees2011.pdf If you are doing running and cycling I suggest Troisport. http://www.troisport.co.za/ cost is a little more but overall savings in day licenses for year (cycling and running) is better. They have club in Joburg and Durbs.
  19. I have a 9 speed triple dura ace groupset on my roadie. The right hand STI (rear derailleur) has started giving me issues and wont change down. I can buy a set of 10 speed Ultegra STI's from CRC for a very good price. The question is what else needs to change ? Off the bat I assumed that I would have to change the rear cassette, rear derailleur and chain all to 10 speed. Ok so I have a brand new 10 speed ultegra cassette at home so that leaves the chain and rear derailleur. Someone mentioned that they did not think I would have to change the rear derailleur meaning I simply need to buy a chain and the 10 speed STI's. So the question is will a 9 speed dura ace rear derailleur work with a 10 speed Ultegra STI ? if so will I be limited to 9 gears or will I get 10 gears ?
  20. I do a 4am to 6h30am tour de Randburg and Sandton most week days and can honestly say the local residents are all pretty ok. The only issues i've seen have involved buses and taxi's driving at excessive speeds and skipping red robots. If anything I have seen many cyclists who's behaviour and road manners can be called in question.
  21. I had my cluster come apart after the freehub split ? how does a freehub break overzealous bike mechanic or maybe factory fault. Either way it sucks having to push
  22. I wonder who the folks are that voted "yes" ? they must be **** hot fit and kick chuck norris butt everyday
  23. All sounds far too familiar. 1. Get yourself a dvd called "total immersion" freestyle made easy. Sit back relax watch the video a few times and practise the drills in the water. Local cost about R450. US cost about $10 + 2 week wait. 2. Get decent running shoes and start running. Take it VERY slow in the beginning if you are NOT a runner. The world is not going to end this March. 3. Speak to Maryke Verster maryke.verster87@gmail.com get a training programme worked out. 4. You must have a heart rate monitor. Any will do as long as it is water resistant, reliable and gives an almost instant reading especially when doing interval training. Do a bit of internet browsing and make sure you are training in the right heart rate zone. 5. The most important thing is to enjoy yourself. 6. Dont spend too much on bling until you are sure tri is what you want to do. This can be a very expensive sport.
  24. Being a 2 wheel fanatic I ride a motorcycle around town to work and back and I can tell you those gaps are always an issue. Its best to relax and TRY not to get too excited. The minute you get the proverbial middle finger out you are a goner ! Put it away smile and grit your teeth if necessary hopefully next time you make an ass of yourself your fellow road users will recipricate your charm
  25. At the recent Troisport Joburg City triathlon it was amazing to see how much stuff was lost on the road, whole tubbies with goodies inside, tubes, water bottles, pumps, gas canisters. If I had the time I could have had a auction after the race and made a small fortune. Either way avoiding obstacles of various types (including cones) was defintely a priority.
