  1. my version of "arrrgghhh cramp....cramp......" had a few "f?sf?sf?s" in it between much swallowing of water and gasping for air. i noted earlier that the life guard on duty was not that good looking so I did'nt want to attract any attention
  2. Thanks guys. Must admit this is only the 2nd time I have ever had a muscle cramp. Last time was about 15yrs ago doing a cycle race in PTA going up a hill, if I recall correctly my dismount was everything BUT graceful Now that I have had time to think about it - I have actually down scaled the amount of cycling I am doing and have increased my running mileage this because of winter. I also take a daily dose of AMINO STIMS but I have not been as diligent as normal. Another thing I have not been doing of late is stretching again laziness and weather etc. So I suppose a combination of things and timing could be contributing here.
  3. Hey Chaunce, I dont suppose those were a pair of good looking golf shoes ? they do have a tendency to be very noticeable
  4. Ok so I am cruising through my usual Tuesday avie 2.4k swim I have about 400m to go and my left calf muscle goes in a severe cramp ending my swim very abruptly and leaving me hobbling off home. 1. Why the hell on earth would my calf muscles cramp while swimming, its not like its contributing in a major way ? 2. This morning the muscle is very stiff like its been pulled or something. What does one do in this case, rest up for a few days, medication, physio ? 3. Is there anything I might be missing from a diet perspective that would cause this ?
  5. I got to get myself a decent paying job in Cape Town ...
  6. Hey ! thats not nice. Just cause the area I live in has a smell about it at 5am and I gotta run over rubbish on the pavement from 4 weeks ago and might have to wear a mask soon does not mean JHB is 3rd world city What we need in JHB is GODZilla
  7. Now the bike jackers in CPT know where to wait whilst doing window shopping
  8. ? I thought only the good folks in Spain and England where lucky enough to have cycle lanes. Think I need to move to Cape Town (DA Country ) the question of course is just how wide spread are these lanes ?
  9. could even start a new kind of MTB race. a anything goes race, first to the top of the hill wins
  10. could even start a new kind of MTB race. a anything goes race, first to the top of the hill wins
  11. Can I ask what exactly is the deal at Kyalami, times days and cost ?
  12. wowzers this has got to be the scariest pic I have ever seen ! is this for real ?
  13. Is there anywhere in the Randburg area that provides spinning classes. I dont want to join a gym or anything like that.
  14. I have read a number of threads and had some very valuable input from hubbers re GU gels and similar products. I also know there are some very experienced and knowledgeable triathletes out there who are not that in favour of using gels etc. So here is a link I picked up on facebook and at face value the product really looks good. The question is ... is it? http://www.challengecapetown.com/?page_id=113
  15. A week ago at about 5am, Mimosa Street Randpark Ridge, some idiot in a white toyota delivery thingy forced me off the road while I was out running. I was wearing green reflector belts around my waist and ankles and I had a headlamp on. The road is wide enough to park 4 cars abreast. The guy had to be sleeping or it was intentional ! WTF
  16. You are indeed very lucky. I use a motorcycle to work everyday and have 2 bicycles and also run. I cannot tell you how many close shaves I have had, lets not forget me and my MTB being run over by a red double decker bus! You simply cannot trust anyone on the road and age has very little to do with it. Best you start growing eyes at the back of your head and be a lot more wary of happening around you.
  17. Dude no such thing as a safe route and it does not matter what part of the world you live in. Johannesburg has to be the worst though. Make sure your life insurance and income protector policies are in place and paid up.
  18. I live in Frangipani Crescent, Randpark Ridge and have donated a laptop and a mountain bike. The mountain bike was in the garage BUT pedestrian gate was left unlocked one night by kids and the laptop was stolen through an open window one night when the electric fence was off. So both cases could have been prevented. I do 4h30 early morning runs and must admit I see lots of potentially dubious characters walking around in the dark at that time of the morning.
  19. Agree with all above. Early morning is safer. Does not interfere with family and work. Once at work theres no chance I'm going to get any afternoon training done. It sucks having to get up at 4h30 but discipline must prevail if you want to do those things you love doing. The only issue I have is that running at 5am is not the same as running say at 12 midday after a 90km or 180km cycle. So when I actually do races and end up running in the heat of the day I really struggle.
  20. I would have taken 31 minutes but that would have included a few beers especially as it was a Saturday avie
  21. I have always pondered about this. If you think 5mm is nothing not too mention the difference between say a 172.5 and a 175. Are you actually going to be able to feel the difference if you swop between the two cranks ?
  22. Ooohhhh ouchie yes I'd also be
  23. I cant find any television coverage of the Ironman race today ??????????????????
  24. I have a feeling GrumpyOldGuy would love this and should the need arise he probably would'nt wait for the cops either
