  1. There's a Fish Hoek ghost bike on the beach in memory of Ian McPherson.
  2. Hmmm good point. I didn't consider how far back 8am would b - group 5A, after the unicycles and hand-cycles. Maybe then a good start time would be 7:25, 3C. If seeding's anything to go by, I should be able to push with the leaders of the group or make a breakaway group with the stronger riders of that group. I'm thinking, if others consider this option, there would be a few of stronger riders in the 3C group that will be able to set a decent pace and be in the weather "gap".
  3. Yea, I got the race number, number board, cable ties, & the sticker you attach to the number board in my race envelope.
  4. I'm considering dropping a few groups to maybe find a "gap" in the weather. Anyone looked into this much or am I over thinking it? According to my 2 seconds of research, the "optimal" start time may be to start just before 8am. The sacrifice would obviously be, in general, a slower group... but maybe others are also considering this and there'd be a decent group of leaders to follow in the group? I know this may be the time to rather just enjoy the ride but I'm also trying to make the best of a bad situation... not to win the race.
  5. "For start groups up to the end of wave 2, each rider will receive an identical “bunch” start time. From group 3A onwards, each rider’s riding time will only start once they have crossed the actual timing mat." - Start-line-101
  6. Ah disaster! To search for the silver lining... at least you got it now and not 2 weeks from now... or two weeks ago even? You should be able to fully recover by then, just not ideal in-terms of training - but hey, you don't gain much within the 2-3 weeks leading up to the event 😃
  7. Yea, and as you say, it's probably best to look after the Argus 😃
  8. I don't mean to throw my bike shop under the bus, I was just in a bit of a panic. This morning they got back to me and quoted R1300 for a new back wheel since they couldn't find a free hub. They also have now given me an eta for Wednesday. So, I think all might be well now. Thanks to everyone.
  9. I'm in Stellenbosch and my bike is currently at Outdoor Escape.
  10. I agree but from what I'm told it heavily damaged to spokes/freehub. I'm in a bit of a panic (although you guys have calmed me down) and thought I may be due an upgrade (although you guys seems to disagree). I also thought, if it came to it, I didn't want to spend like 10% of a new bike just to rent one... so contemplating all my options and at the end of the day, it's why I'm here 😃
  11. Thanks, I'll wait to hear what my current bike shop has to say and if it's anything other than "You can expect your bike within the week" I'll take it here.
  12. That's one mighty fine looking bike you got there. Thanks, maybe an upgrade isn't necessary and all will be well in time. I do/did like my Caad8 and was on the verge of upgrading it's wheels within the next few months.
  13. I saw it sold for R37k on here about a year ago... That's a little to much to invest for me. Long story short the chain came off at high speeds and got really jammed in-between the rear derailleur/spokes/cassette. I nearly died since it put the wheel to a halt. The chain/wheels now flows backwards and forwards, as one - no free flowing back wheel. Freehub issues? Hopefully some of that makes sense? I'm told because it's an older bike it's now going to be a matter of sourcing parts and there's no eta on that. I hope you're right and it's enough time but I don't want to find out the hard way that it wasn't... plus, I'm assuming it's going to cost an arm and a leg to get fixed, so I'm considering rather putting that money toward a new bike.
