  1. Why don't you move to the UK, then you'll be living in consumer utopia...
  2. What - road, MTB?
  3. Mr Min. Nobody can slide down a faux leather couch on duster like that guy...
  4. Yep, and here: http://www.cyclingnews.com/mtb.php?id=news/2009/jan09/jan07mtbnews
  5. Correct. Sauser is in Jhb at the moment. He's off to CT later this week where he will compete for the Specialized team at the Total Sports Challenge. Will then head to Jonkershoek later the same day to support Burry in the XC race. Pity he's not racing the MTN SA Cup event. Not often you get to watch a world champion in action right here...
  6. I still think they should divide races into ability and not age. The PPA does this in the Western Cape and it seems to work well.
  7. PS. If that's your Yeti, you are one discerning buyer!
  8. Sigh. You are so right. That place is MTB riding heaven. They had to get something since they ended up with ice-cold ocean water, dodgy weather and that insecure Seth fellow...
  9. Go here to find out more about who to contact, special World Cup packages etc... http://www.mtbworldcupsa.co.za/Travel/Official-Hotels.aspx
  10. Why is that relevant to us? Assume you've taken it up with Omnico who have one of the best customer service records in the SA market?
  11. You're kidding right? Do a search for 'Armstrong doping' using the search facility and expect to spend the next few hours reading opinions....
  12. Seems like mechanical issues weren't discriminatory ? even the winners had big issues. This from the Stage 2 review: After winning Stage 1 on Saturday by a huge nine-minute margin, Stewart and Knox were once again the aggressors on Sunday when they moved into the lead at the base of the first big climb. But at 15km Knox?s rear gear derailleur broke, leaving him with just four gear options instead of the usual 27. But by the summit of the long climb, which lasted for virtually the first 45km of the stage, Knox and Stewart had a four-minute lead on the chasing pack, which included the Garmin 1 pair of Theron and Buys, the Garmin 2 team of Green and Mackenzie and the Mr Price Red team of Johan van Zyl and Dana Coetzee. ?My knee is still painful so we just kept a steady pace from there and actually built up our lead to almost 10 minutes,? explained Knox. But with 15km of the 74km stage remaining Stewart?s back wheel started losing composure as spokes began to break. The further he rode the more spokes broke as a result of the inconsistent tension on the rim. ?We had to stop three times in the last 15 kays to tinker with Brandon?s wheel just to keep it in a decent state to allow us to keep riding,? recalled Knox. ?We knew that Francois and Philip were catching so it was a relief to have had enough of a cushion to still win the stage!? Brandon counted 10 broken spokes at the finish!
  13. When I started road cycling at age 17 I didn't have a clue what to do. Didn't know how to train, didn't know how to eat for optimum performance etc. There wasn't nearly as much information about the sport as there is now, mainly because there wasn't one cycling magazine, no Internet and no Pro willing to teach the youngsters... Great initiative Daryl! May it go really well and may you start off your 2009 season like you finished 2008 ? winning!

  15. Major corporates prefer to do sponsorships for at least three years, with options to extend. Because of Mazda buying some of itself back from The Ford Motor Company, Mazda is in a state of change and isn't yet able to make long-term commitments in terms of sponsorships. They were able to sponsor the National Series for a least another year but that would have come out of a short-term budget. There is a long-term replacement sponsor that will be announced very soon...
  16. That reminds me of the Pushmepullyou from Dr Doolittle books when I was a kid...
  17. Good to hear' date=' some of us adults will be using those smaller jumps option too... Have you heard much about that TEAK place?[/quote'] TEAK place? Nope. Sorry. It is a place to ride MTBs?
  18. I rode the Bike Park yesterday for a couple of hours on my hardtail and had a ball. Again! I definitely felt it was 50 bucks well spent... It's not Giba Gorge. It's not Tokai. It's not Stowe. It's the flippen MTN Toyota Bike Park in Bryanston... Just enjoy it for what it is and stop trying to compare it to other places. Oh, and it's not finished yet. End of February 2009 most of the trails and tracks should be completed. Helen/Neleh: Re the BMX track, how do you expect to create new international champions on a naff track that's got small jumps? Kids as young as 5 will be able to ride the whole track. The middle straight has a second option with smaller jumps specifically to cater for the little ones. They're also building a small kid's fun trail/track near the Pump Track, specifically for Under-12s. It's not far from completion.
  19. Any MTB rides on the KZN South Coast (between Scottburgh and Shelley Beach) and North Coast (between Ballito and Zinkwazi)? Can be bit inland I don't mind driving a bit.
