  1. The Bike fit things sounds like great idea, I've had a few but in my experience the fit becomes a bit subjective from the saddle to the bars, they all mostly get the pedal stroke right, but i'm yet to meet someone that can say ... with your measurements you should buy such and such frame size in said brand.

Listening to the points its probably gonna be an XL, I dont want to much drop  and I dont want to prop the bars up with spacers

    Thanks for the pointers

  2. I'm looking at getting a Trek Top Fuel, I think I'm at  the edge of Large  with a saddle height set to 77cm, is there any benefit in getting a larger bike where you are considered more in the sweet spot, most try get a smaller bike because its lighter.

at 185cm-6'1" i think I fit on a large any thoughts on the LargerXL frame I'm assuming more comfort due to higher stack height etc.

  3. i'm running Nobby Nix Addix versions, they are very heavy and don't roll great but they eat up the tracks especially the dusty parts of Tokai, I was using Saguaros but they wash out a bit to easy at this time of year, its always a trade off between speed and grip, you really feel the NN's on the climbs 😅

  4. Are guys riding gravel bikes in tokai, I rode up to the boom at the top but it was quite a rough ride, if any comments please let me know. Assume you can rough it up on the jeep tracks although pretty bumpy.

what sort of tyre pressure on a 42mm tyre?

  5. I was between 2 mind s of the Kickr 4 and the Core, in my opinion the Core is more than sufficient, I'm not a small guy and the unit is great.

    Pro's

price compared to the Kickr 4

    dead quiet

    stable

    folds up quite nicley

    Con's

can't think of any except maybe not coming with a cassette.

I got my unit through the Bike Park in Constantia, great price and prompt delivery.

I'm using it with sufferfest and training peaks and then linked to Strava!!

I'm also using my Garmin HR and a ANT dongle for the mac.

  6. The bikes a large and a shade over 7 KG in the pic, think those are the tubbies but I'm not sure because I tried both, those are a trial set and I'm going to be getting a new set

Its a great match with the bits of red etc

If you wanted you can get this bike right down to the UCI weight change saddle groupset etc

I need to lose the stomach first

But this bike is a great handler, made for those chappies descents and a good climbing bike, it take getting used to because its a true race bike very twitchy... love it

  7. New to the aero wheel story, think the above more or less same price give or take a k or so. Have been using hubbys corimas for a while but would like some views on how they compare to zipp which seems to be a more widely used wheel. Also views on303 vs 404

    My BH with Corima wheels

I dont think there's much in it but I have heard the Corima is stronger.

In terms of braking they are both as good as each other

    Looks great on the BH

  8. Has anyone made the move from a wider Specialized saddle to a Fizik?

Specifically from a wider Specialized saddle, 155mm to the narrow Fizik - I dont think Fizik offer varying widths.

I currently use a 155 mm S-Works Chicane which isn't too comfortable and have been wondering about trying a Fizik Arione R1 which seems to be very popular.

I have been between the 2 and I think the Fizik is more comfortable but I think the 155mm is a better platform, it took me about 6 weeks to get into it

Just look at it like this pick a saddle and stick with it with those 2 brands you cant go wrong, I changed because i prefer the cutout on the Phenom and I had the snip so the Phenom has taken getting used to but now no looking back

The bottom line both are great saddles i just wish the Fizik was 155mm

  9. on a sort of similar note:

can one buy replacement rails for the Fizik, specifically for the aliante (least flexible)

No I dont think you can but I have 3 of them 2 for mtb with technogel and the kium rails, they are great saddles only moved to a Phenom only because my bifefit chick suggested a a wider saddle

I have a white one for road and 2 black ones if you interested PM me

  10. 2x 10 should operate through full range of gears, I had the same issue and resolved it by putting 2-3 extra links in the chain. When it Large ring rear and front see how far towards the crank the deraillier pulls.

Its not ideal to run like that but it should operate through full range

adjusting the barrel adjuster on the shifter could also help but I reckon your problem is chain length..

  11. Any Clues as to a durable hub with easily available spares

I sold my Eastons because spare werent easily available and I couldnt convert the Easton hub to thru-axle and after contacting agents in SA and the States.. it seems I had to buy new wheels which I thought was madness

  12. I have had to replace bearings on the Stans Arch EX front and rear after 1000 kms and then on the rear 80 Kms later ( maybe that set was dud) admittedly my bike stood for 2 months while I was away

even when the bearings are new they feel nothing like my Old Easton XCT 70 where the hubs were way smoother

Is this something shared by others

Is it possible to get better quality bearings or is this something one has to live with

Its only something you feel when you take the wheels off

I'm now thinking about better quality hubs which are still fairly light.

  13. What is the feeling on a Saguaro upfront

Nice anecdotes voluminous so you can run at low pressure

Th e only down side is that it's quite heavy

I run a s works fasttrak on the back which I love but no good on front in sandy loose conditions

  14. Not the scott still has rear shock issues if you gonna stage race

Giant value for money vs performance and probably the lightest sub 12kg easily with XT

I'm on a Pivot 429 sub 12 kg at about 40K but a great climber and a beast downhill..

  15. My Garmin Edge 500 is playing up

It keeps on going to Auto pause, its almost like the GPS is faulty although when I check the status everything is fine

    I have tried new updates

This has happened before but seemed to sort its self out

all the other functions are good

I switched auto Pause off so now the timer just runs when I lose speed and distance

    Any advice or similar problems
