  1. I see Polar have a GPS unit as well that pairs with my strap. But fuuuuuuck it's R6k???
  2. Thank you! Which strap do you use?
  3. Hey man, I'm going to give you my learnings over the past year that I've been riding, and will also pose a question for someone else as I'm also wondering about getting a dedicated unit just for the bike so that I can follow and navigate strava segments - something I can't do right now unless I mount my phone to the bike. First point is that you don't need to use strava in order for the ride to be saved to strava. You can use any fitness device data that then automatically imports into your strava profile. To measure your vitals along with distance and time over routes you'll need a device that measures those vitals. Like a chest strap or a smart watch. Chest straps need to be paired with another device to save those stats and to provide gps. Since a smart watch already has gps, it doesn't need to pair with anything, it just needs to sync to the server to save your data. The problem with only having a watch is that as I mentioned earlier, you can't follow live segments and routes as you're riding them. If that's not an issue for you, then just get a good watch and be done with it. If it is an issue, then it's a question I also need an answer to. Do the guys that use garmin have the bike gps in their cockpit as well as the watch that's paired to it? Or is the gps it's own unit that syncs on its own? Not to waft on, but essentially: Strava only via phone - No vitals like heart rate. Will log GPS + Time + Distance. You can view segments if phone is mounted.Smartwatch - Willl log vitals + GPS + Time + Distance - You will need to sync this data to strava afterwards. Can't view segments. This is what I assume: Garmin bike GPS + Garmin smart watch - Logs vitals, gps + time + distance and you can view segments via the gps screen. You will need to sync this data to strava afterwards. This seems to be the best solution if you're looking for the complete picture. This is what I use: Polar H10 chest strap + polar beat app on the phone. I have quite a bit of body hair and I find the strap to be the most accurate vital tracking for me. The phone ensures I have gps, and the strap monitors heart rate, oxygen etc. When the workout is done, the polar app syncs to my health app and strava. I then get a full picture on strava of time + distance + gps as well as heart rate, calories and effort. Since it syncs to health as well, I get the discovery points updated too. I can't view live segments as I'm riding though, so I might need to rethink my entire setup as I'd like to be able to.
  4. So does that mean that it's open from 21:00 for night rides?
  5. It takes me back to my childhood riding bikes in the neighbourhood. Friends. Endless days. No bills, no anxiety. Just our bicycles and happiness.
  6. Just an update here guys. Found no air in the system. Did the bleeding, pumping, removing the pads, putting the bike upside down, pumping et all. Still the same story. New brake pad, so it's not that this time. Ended up adjusting the lever and now it stops with a lot of force. Guess it was just a loose lever in the end. Will give it a test run this weekend again to see if it carries on. Hopefully not!
  7. They're not shimanos. I inherited the bike, and I'm not sure where the components came from. The brakes are some TecPro Draco or something to that effect.
  8. I am not sure what happened on the first service, but the second service definitely put brand new pads in. So I'm sure of that at least.
  9. Just tried the pumping. No luck. Still pulls to the bar. Fingers went stiff.
  10. Ha ha. Thank you. I'm in JHB. If I'm ever in CT, the coffee is on me.
  11. Stuck in meetings now FML. But will jump out as soon as I can to test this theory!
  12. I hear you man. This experience has me thinking that it's best if I figure out general maintenance on my own. It's extremely frustrating & discouraging.
  13. It's been for two services already to try resolve this issue. I'll try pump the lever to see if that does provide some pressure.
  14. Thanks for this! 2 - You're right on this. I unfortunately didn't realise I had to do this. 3 - What could this mean? The dry lube I'm putting on the chain? 4 - Would this not have been picked up at the services? 5 - Mentioned above, I have no idea. 6 - No fluid on either end. I'm about 100kg, it's a Pyga OneTen. I ride mostly around the spruit and the various trails around jbh (Cradle moon, Northern Farms, Red Barn etc). I don't really bomb it downhills - not very confident yet.
  15. I haven't tried pumping it. Will try it when I get a gap at work. It went there for the first service. I don't know. It's something generic. The bike is a loaner so I can give a dual suspension a try. So not too sure of the components on there.
  16. I took the bike for a service at the beginning of September. Everything seemed fine on the first ride. On the second ride, I struggled to slow down, brake lever reaches almost to the handlebar. Third ride, brake lever touching the handlebar, speed reduction, but I can't stop effectively. If I'm off the bike, and I press the lever, the wheel locks, so it does work somewhat. I take the bike to a different bike shop, guy shows me that there is no brake pad. I get a bit concerned assuming my previous service would have done that. Anyway, I have him service the bike again and the brake lever is 100% and I can stop. I've now had about 6 rides since the last service and I'm back to my brake lever touching the handlebar and not really stopping me past a certain speed. What on earth is going on?
  17. Call any Rack & Road. They are the stockist of a lot of Thule products and they do aftermarket Thule / Brink towbars. See if they are able to assist. https://www.towbarsrus.co.za/towbartypes/
  18. No heartbreakers allowed!
  19. Limited sizes remaining on Fox gear on One Day Only. https://www.onedayonly.co.za/
  20. The budget trail riding gear thread is over here, the guys give some good suggestions: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/186647-budget-trail-riding-gear/
  21. Took the hubber's advice and went to Holla Trails today.
  22. Cycle lab have them on special at the moment if you don't mind the colour. https://www.cyclelab.com/search?query=glove&cat=1509 I have 2 pairs of the rangers, they are comfy and don't get too sweaty.
  23. Thanks guys!
  24. Hey guys, anyone have any recommendations for some trails around Umhlanga / Umdloti / Ballito?
  25. Ha ha ha! Looks like you definitely enjoy riding that thing! Awesome. Thanks for the pic. Will do the same with mine then.
