Hi all just an update. Went onto SA post office website and searched for the parcel using US tracking number. Been doing this daily for the last month now. There were never any results but today it showed package available at Menlyn Post Office branch! Yay! So went there, paid a small import duty (about 20% of item value) and voilà I have my package. Lesson learnt, never use postal service from any nation, always use courier. But kudos to the SAPO. Thanks for everyone’s advice.

Hi all, recently had bike parts sent from the USA to me via the USPS (United States postal service). it took about 4 days for the package to reach OR Tambo Int airport (I could track it) where it was handed over to someone(?), presumably the South African Post Service. the tracking number from the USPS indicates that the small package has left OR Tambo Intl Airport on the 8th of Jan. I haven't received my package yet, nor any sort of notifications from anyone. My questions are: where could my parts be? to who would the parts be handed to? am I correct in assuming it was the South African Postal Service? If it was how long do they take to deliver? do they deliver or do I need to pick it up? if so where? are there any import duties or vat payable and if so where and how? I just want my parts. any help or advice would be appreciated , thanks.

I agree with what you say and yes maybe I should make the mind shift about what things cost these days. I was just totally surprised at the cost. I've done the 70.3 Durban in 2019, and thought I'd do this RedHub STD road tri as a refresher, to see if I still like the discipline, but now I'm thinking twice. Maybe since it's in April there's still time I should just budget for the event. Anyway, I wonder if newcomers to the sport will be as discouraged as I was after seeing the price. At least I have good memories to motivate me to save / budget for the event.

Hi there, quick little rant: I was thinking of doing the RedHub standard road triathlon (1.5/40/10) in April but there's no way at R700 entry. I know there is a lot of logistics and organization that goes into it but R700?? I'm a just a poor bugger or is this what it costs nowadays?

Hi all, looking at upgrading my 2018 scott spark 940 chainring from the standard 32t x-sync2 sram chainring to a 34t. Looking at the csixx chainrings, they come in 0,3 and 6mm offsets. Which one is right for my bike? 1x12 sram gx, Thanks

also rode there a few weeks ago! I didn't want to leave! the tree line at the school, and the smaller jumps just above the rode gap are my favorite! Will probably never have the balls to do the big jumps on the road gap, or the new jumps at that club (the ones with the steep drop in). Thanks to whoever is building and maintaining these jumps and also the signage! Big ups!

Hi all, I have an old Trek road bike with Tektro caliper style brakes. (google shows these are caliper style, not v-brake or cantilever style...???) I want to replace the drop bars with a flat / straight mtb handlebar. Question: Which brake levers can I use with these caliper style brakes? (I read somewhere about long pull and short pull but still not sure. ) Links to locally available brake levers would be awesome, even 2nd hand ones. tia

Hi all, i'm looking for a rigid lefty fork. Does anyone know where in SA I can buy one? (I'm hesitant looking abroad but will keep it open as option B). It's for a 29er hardtail MTB. I plan on building a rigid 29er hardtail for gravel grinding and just messing around. If not a lefty rigid fork then where can I look for normal rigid forks? Carbon or aluminium or steel. I built one similar to the one on GMBN. Was about 40cm high and 110cm long. I'm not great at jumping but it got me a little air during lockdown

It would be awesome if each forum could have a feature similar to whatsapp's "media, links and docs" feature in a chat, i.e. if you select a "show all media" button, it shows only the pictures and vids in that specific forum. each pic or vid might even be hyperlinked back to the actual forum that contained the full text etc. Uses: I like just looking the pretty pictures in forums, i don't like reading much so instead of scrolling through all the pages in "best photos taken with a phone" , i can just use this feature to show all the pretty pictures and scroll to my heart's content

Hi all, What is the cheapest smart indoor trainer that is compatible with zwift? It has to be the one that can automatically change the pedaling resistance according to the app. Trying to get an IDT set up going without breaking the bank... Saw a guy riding the spruit on Sunday 22 Sept with his boy sitting in front (kiddies seat on the top tube - between the rider's legs) and his slightly older daughter ridding on one of those one wheeled thingamabobs that is towed behind the rider's bike. That's the weight of two kids, and he was still smiling from ear to ear while peddling all the uphills on the spruit. Who ever you are, kudu's to you sir, super dad of note. Well done. My twins are due middle Jan 2020 and I cannot wait till I can take them cycling!

2018 Scott Spark 940. Fox 120mm travel front and rear. Slack(ish) head angle. 2.35 tires front and rear. Must say , for what I use it for it ticks all the boxes. I've done the Trans Baviaans on it, but mainly play on the trails in Pretoria East. It handles all the 'difficult' sections of Wolwespruit, Big Red Barn and the Spruit really well. I even use it to jump with (not moerse gap jumps but big by my standards )

my blonde moment: making a DIY tubeless tire sealant injector - you know the one that injects through the valve with valve core removed - Good Idea. Bad Idea however: forgetting to deflate tire first before connecting (now full) injector.... yeah, 1 bar homemade sealant sprayer anyone.

Absolutely love my 2018 spark. Replaced the dropper post with a carbon seat post on long rides. then I started doing more technical riding and back the dropper post went. then I removed the dropper post again and both lockouts for that clean look. been riding it like that ever since.

I use wrist based HR from the suunto spartan. not great but also not bad. Like the freedom of not having a chest strap, (one less thing to forget). takes HR in water (questionable accuracy) but like you pointed out, I also don't care about HR during swim, maybe post race for giggles
