if you want to train to do more short stints at high HR you must do more interval training in your anaerobic range (i.e. about 80% of your max heart rate). That means you must train in the zones where you don't mainly use fats as a fuel source, but mainly use glycogen an carbo's as a fuel source. You can only sustain training in these zones for a few minutes. A training example: 10 min warm up, 4minutes at > 80% of your maxc heart rate, recover to 60% of your MHR. Hit 80% again for 4 minutes, recover. Do this 6 times. Cool down 10 minutes. This will teach your body not to build up lactate as quickly and give you higher efficiency at these levels.

it looks awesome but geez!!! its expensive. if you enter early its R2990! Ironman PE is also about R2000 if you get the spec savers sponsor. So if you travel from gauteng this trip will cost you R3k entry, R2k travel (you + wife), R1k accomodation, R1k car hire, etc. Its a R7k weekend! Id love to do the ultra tri's but can only afford once in a lifetime. (did ironman once). The organizers are forcing us to stick to running or single discipline races. I understand all the costs involved (aid stations, traffic officials, medal, shirt, pasta party etc). But surely R2990 is insane!!!????? Do you agree?

No. I was on gold for 2 years. This would be nr 3. So I will get Diamond this year. Got dependant at end of last year. So obviously I now need more more points to still be gold status. But as it was at the end of last year, I didn't expect to still comply to the higher thresholds. So I monitored my profile carefully every week after that. The website indicated I was ok. I was gold. My monthly status reports/accounts indicated I was gold. I was ok. They didn't update my profile until this year. And now its too late. They slipped up would't you say. Its suppose to be automated on the system. Or at least communicate with the client. Im not impressed with Discovery's service.

Discovery and Vitality is the worst brand in south africa. For all you vitalitiers out there...just check all the fine print (this goes for all discovery products). After 5 years on vitality they deleted all my point because I added a dependant on my name at the end of last year and they failed to notify my that the points thresholds changed. Allthough their website and my monthly accounts stated that I was still on Gold status. Worst. Product. Ever.

it gives speed and distance if you are not using a stride sensor or a speed sensor for your bike. also plots your route on google maps. obviously no cadence data or stride length data are given. If you use the G3 and speed sensor simultaneously, the speed sensor (or stride sensor) overrules the G3.
