  6. That place hubbers in another thread want to nuke
  7. My Cotic 26er singlespeed does not keep pace with the group on Saturday mornings. Since the group is mostly wielding dual suss 29ers on the gravel roads around town I opted to turn my SSoul into a MonsterSoul. Using a 10 speed 11-25 rear derailleur, cassette and chain (all 105) from an ignored time trial bike, Ultegra STIs and handlebars from the road bike that broke my collarbone, the MonsterCotic was born Currently she sports the Funn Hooka downhill cranks with 32 front chainring from the singlespeed. The 32 front should make for an easy affair with this bike [emoji7] on the flat gravel roads here. I kept the 26er wheels with Maxxis tyres, Suntour Epicon shock and changed to mechanical disk brakes for the occasional stop.
  8. Stompie... stud bull.... retired, all worn out?
  9. Parys Golf and County Estate, crossing the Vaal river again. Off the island now.
  10. The Vaal River last Sunday Some place, borderline nowhere during the week

  12. I've run/walk'd a few half marathons at 1:45 or less. Albeit, walking was restricted to the water points only. Grab Coke at the first table, drink that whilst walking, grab water sachet at the last table and start running again. 3 to 4 km later? it starts all over again. Do not disregard run/walk. It actually works!
  13. Kicked in the nuts, stuffed in the pocket, smiling to the bank with a smarting ego and Springbok rugby cheering from the pavilion?
  14. My running club sent an e-mail where-in they confirmed that ASA stated that 2017 license numbers can be used up to 31 January 2018...
  15. For people to figure how slow a slow run should be, try using the Jack Daniels (Not the whiskey! ) (running) VDOT Calculator. Use your current best pace (not ever fastest, not last years miracle fast run, nor your intended/target/goal pace!) Lots of people make the mistake of thinking they want to train to run a 4min/km 10km or whatever pace/distance, and start by running at that pace over shorter distances, thinking they can increase the distance they can keep the pace as they get fitter.... Hello INJURY! A copy of Jack Daniel's (click to read up on him) VDOT calculator can be found at runsmartproject. For example, a current best time of 2:06:35 on a 1/2 marathon (6minutes/km pace) will render the following training paces: (There are specific meaning and percentages of total training attached to Repetition / Interval / Threshold, but I'm too lazy to go fetch my book with all this stuff in
  16. And he brought parkrun to RSA. Turned those 200,000km into 22,366,785km by parkrunners, which is still increasing! Talk about giving back to the sport you love!
  17. Running is a game of patience yeah! Just put in the time, the results will happen by themselves. Also, overseas runners are apparently confused by the general ZA runners. We run too fast when we should run slow, and run too slow when we are supposed to run fast. Which leads to my observation of the general ZA runner (long distance - because that is all we do in ZA; distance uber alles) being a one paced slogger. Hilarious and very sad to see people slogging at their usual ultra pace on an athletics track when they are doing intervals..
  18. Service is the differentiator. Which is why places like Randburg Runner and Sweat Shop carry a good rep. No service / knowledge at Sportsmans Warehouse / Total Sports, who can only compete on price/range/fashion. However a shop like Poobies has price/range covered with no big mall / franchise overheads. Which leave fashion to the mall based shops to compete with...
  19. What are your hashrates and electricity consumption on those machines?
  20. I've done all the Jozi parkruns except for Rondebult. For a smaller parkrun (note the lower case p and one word - apologies for the snobbery) in the northern suburbs, try Ernest Ullmann parkrun. Small section on the braamfontein spruit as well. Takes place in a safe, clean, neat, civilised park and not congested. They have around 200-300 runners per event. Doubt the venue will be able to handle a 1000...
  21. Ons is of te besig om kos te maak vir die land, of te besig om bulte te soek vir “hill repeats”
  22. reduce stiffness... is that a posterior or anterior view?
  23. Fitness above implying endurance. After this I went through an extended period of doing strength and core work. This made me feel invincible, and definitely not fragile. Cross training / strength work on top of multi-sport based training is really recommended! It ll makes you realize that doing a lot of the same sport is not really the way to build strength / fitness / endurance in a specific sport
  24. Best fitness gains I ever had was running Tuesday to Friday (6 - 10km each day), 2x IDT sessions on the bicycle, long ride on one day of the weekend and long run the other. Never aimed to run a marathon but was comfortable to run a 21 two days after a 200km Audax
