  1. My next Audax will definitely be on the gravel bike. More comfort, less pothole / rut anxiety.
  2. Who'll be there? https://www.anatomic.co.za/products/crater-cruise-t-shirt
  3. https://www.strava.com/activities/14656097256 Matthew Beers – Gravel Ride 5:50 AM on Saturday, May 31, 2025 Emporia, USA Unbound 200 - 16th Maybe, just maybe I’ll have a smooth run at unbound one day. Multiple punctures - thanks to Spez off - road for the very fast 2 wheel changes.
  4. Excuse my ignorance, but who is the lady with the ZA flag around her sleeves? edit: Haley Preen
  5. Unbound live stream starts at 5pm South Africa Time. Roughly 4 hours into the race
  6. Under Train on the horizontal bar, select TrainingPeaks Virtual Workouts from the drop down, scroll down and you'll find FTP Test (Ramp) FTP Test (20 min) as well as various Critical Power tests https://help.trainingpeaks.com/hc/en-us/articles/31340403177485-TrainingPeaks-Virtual-Critical-Power edit: * switch off ERG mode, if not disabled by the test * go full zen mode because when you are breathing through your eyes you will not appreciate your surroundings
  7. Thanks, just tried this! I took a longish 4mm 'sinkbout' from my drawer of loose screws and stuff of and used that. Now I have one spare Shimano bolt to look after.
  8. Apparently N+1 is not the thing to do… https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJl0xXEyQwx/?igsh=cW4zM2Y3Z2ZuM2g1
  9. Two hard tails. One has a steel frame, used to be a SS, masquerading as a monster cross with drop bars and road groupset affair. The other is an alu hard tail. trail/enduro/downhill: no go for me, my bones ran out of rubber, so now they break with impacts, they’re not bendy anymore
  10. Ao N+1 happened and I’ve been on a few rides already. Love it. Feels fast, although it makes it painfully obvious that I need better legs. Photo is from my first ride after going for a fit. Now we dream of dual suspension MTBs 🤤
  11. Took my road bike from yesteryear and stripped it down. RD has no cable, as it functions purely as a chain tensioner. Handlebar and hoods are on another bike. FD and brakes went to the parts bin. Front wheel was cheaper than a kickr climb and easier than to macguyver something. No grips nor tape. Bars are just there as grab handles to maintain balance after intervals. Using my phone to drive the screen with a usb-C to hdmi converter, as my laptop is from yesteryear as well to-do: need to get the chain on a bigger rear cog, it is noisy in the 13/14 it runs at the moment. Might just fish out some single speed spacers and ‘stuff’ to do it.
  12. I drove up to Jhb on Saturday for a bike fit on the gravel bike. Post the fit, decided to go do a ride around the Cradle. Started just after 1:00. With 2 vehicles, the vehicle warning disappeared on the Varia radar, meaning the car is matching my speed. One vehicle specifically, a beat up silver sedan, made me feel uncomfortable so I kept on looking back. Eventually decided to change to the MTB track next to the tar. The moment I did that the car sped up and drove off. Decided against another lap, as I was basically the only bicycle out there. stay alert, and stay safe!
  13. The non-elite 92 & 145km riders also have to finish. So you will not be all alone at the finish and on the route!
  14. You will not be the only one. Go, and just have fun. In any case, everybody will be too busy enjoying themselves to worry about others being ‘different’! and the racing snakes? Let them racing snake!
  15. I've been mixing 2:1 ratio of 40g maltodextrin and 20g fructose in a 750ml bottle. Still need to eat something on slow long ride (4-5 hours) I need to get a mix right that'll work for a 6 hour high intensity ride, but I'll be limited to 2 bottles and a 1.5l mini mule, otherwise I'll have to stop for water. Mixing high volumes of malto and fructose seems to need more work than just measuring off the dosages, add water and shake... What do you guys do to get the stuff to dissolve at higher volumes per bottle?
  16. Dylan was hit by a car. No more riding for him for a bit. Hopefully, once the pain subsides, he'll make more videos. Preferably a lot of backwards hat Dylan stuff/introspection about trucks, tyres, Unbound
  17. Never seen it. Rarely open something that has a 'social feed' though
  18. This statement makes no sense. A sporting body can share details of people using substances against a code they subscribe to (by choice, as they compete in a sport managed by said body, which upholds that code). Given the example that was brought up on this thread, not share names of people who were found guilty of contravening the same codes (albeit by most a more serious one - causing harm to others. even minors)? What is the difference?
  19. for a team owner / manager / rider, I understand the onus is on them not to associate with certain individuals who have been sanctioned by CSA / UCI (banned for a period of time, etc). Is there a mechanism for the above hypothetical owner / manager / rider to (other than google), confirm that people they are dealing/might deal with / come across their paths are actually above board, and will not lead to them being embarrassed (at the least)
  20. Nothing/nobody specific. Just a general question w.r.t. people that are 'out of bounds' as there are so many who claim credibility and legitability, but how to check that? Surely the lowest hurdle / bar would be a list of people / groups that CSA sanctioned / 'banned' due to whatever violation Start to feel like I'm riding into an "Omerta" wall here. Get more excuses (cover ups?) than real answers
  21. One has been mentioned already. Given human nature, surely there must be more? Ideally, there should not be people to be put on such a list! Surely, if CSA / UCI sanctions an individual/group (basically prevents them from having something to do with cycling), and CSA / UCI are able to impose penalties on groups / people registered with CSA/UCI, they should have a list of such individuals / groups available?
  22. Okay, given the above example, surely there must be a list of 'banned/sanctioned' people available somewhere? edit: dopers are listed, surely there must be a list of other people to 'avoid'?
  23. People get sanctioned by CSA & UCI for more than just doping. These individuals are not allowed to be 'involved in cycling' (my paraphrasing) for however long is deemed necessary. Is there a list available of currently sanctioned individuals? Surely there must be, other than the obtuse headings of press releases/web pages, e.g.: "Cycling South Africa / [Individual/Group Name]" What are the possible repercussions if you have dealings with such an individual in a cycling related matter?
  24. Without mentioning names, what does it mean if CSA sanctions an individual? Is there a list of such individuals available for general reference? I know, RSA is the country of the free, but what if CSA licensed riders/groups/teams/clubs have connections to such individuals?
