  1. Yep, sounds about right. I know nothing about woodwork and all, and don't have the skills to DIY it, but know a few things about cricket bats. (but I still like to read this thread, as I like wooden stuffs in my home and its always good to get some ideas) The toe of the bat normally takes a bit of punishment as well, so you might want to consider getting a toe protector (something as in the attached pic). Its basically a thick piece of "rubber" glued to the bat using that glue we all used to use for patching bike tubes. you can get this at Sportsmans as well but your best bet is Mr P sport at the moment. Then re-apply a very thin coat of raw linseed oil once a week or so. More than that you don't really need to do. Some guys also use fiberglass tape to further strengthen the bottom half of the bat, but for the little ones its not required. The bats get damaged more from fooling around before and after practice than in the actual game My son is now in Grade 1 and was lucky enough to get a size 2 bat from our neighbor that he made from an older size 4 bat made of beautiful Grade 1 English willow. Sorry for rambling on and on, so I better stop now. Hope your guy enjoys the cricket, its a lovely game for the, to play.
  2. Our beautiful girl, Saskia. She is just over 8 months old, and we just had her for a month yesterday. Such a gentle creature and LOVES her walks....still pushing to see how far she wants to go, but so far 3km is too short
  3. I really don't know what the vpn you guys are talking about Had a friend in IT set up the whole thing on our TV at home. All I know is that our 4mbs uncapped wireless internet connection at home works like a charm, and that to streamline our setup at `home I need to get me a raspberry pi box thingamajic or a smart tv even Nice tip from Grebel there about phoenix
  4. Try SportsDevil....then choose live sports then LSHunter.tv works most of the time. what I have learnt in the three weeks of Kodi, is that in the beginning its a lot of trail and error but so worth it We had people over the weekend before last, one guy used his DSTV details and ticked the "remember me"option....but funny enough haven't used it once since then

here is a website I came across that also sells Lego at reasonable prices: www.blokker.co.za Not a huge selection but a few nice sets in there.....and while saying that my credit card started to shiver

    lego

My son of 6 built that dragon in just under an hour and a half. Thing is, what do you do with all the lego when built? he doesn't want to take them apart
  9. And to think my wife of 8 years was staying there when I asked her to come back to SA and marry me. Damn, should have moved there instead. Nice to read this thread and the "time to get the hell out of here" thread.
  10. Now this will turn me into a roadie instantly!!
  11. I just need your inputs on this one gents. Thinking of getting it as a "from me to me" belated bday gift Found it at www.mattarend.co.za They have quite a nice collection of watches at decent prices
  12. Don't know but I think I might have fallen into the DSTV trap again... Got a Drifta for Android as a gift over the weekend....So on DSTV mobile now. Has a series catchup channel, Kyknet, etc etc and SS 1-4 all for 49pm,m guess its ok and it works like a charm on my S4 and Galaxy Note 10.1. Really missed the sport
  13. Im thinking besides the internet at home to get one of them Android Walka dongle thingamajiks. Colleague has one and it works like a charm. If Im not mistaken, 1st one is free after that its 49pm. (then you just have to use someones DSTV account details, but that shouldn't be a problem) much better than having full DSTV
  14. Anyone here watching Suits? We're just done with season 4 just have to say that Sarah Rafferty is quite a hottie....
  15. Was nice to meet you. Glad the Alan found a good home!
  16. Guys hope all is well in here. I further reduced my Alan Record's price to R3000 in classifieds. I hope my LBS didn't f&*%^& uo the bike as when they removed the stuck seat post it broke off and now a new one can only be inserted 60mm. and darn it 25mm seat posts are hard to come by. I don't want to let her go, but she's taking up space at home. If you know of anyone that might be interested, please tell them about the ad,
  17. Guys, My Alan Record 54 cm is up for sale in classifieds. First time selling a bike and geez, 2 guys was very interested only to walk out on the deal. Spread the word here in GP, this is a beauty https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/106461-classic-alan-record-54cm/
  18. Guys Took the Alan for a ride over the weekend.....was ok, but not sure if a road bike is for me. I found immense pleasure in restoring and so on though. Maybe I will make it my hobby. So seriously considering selling her. Where would the best place be, besides here on the Hub?
  19. Just from my side: use 150, 300, 400, 800, 1000. 1200. 2000 grit wet sanding paper. Then very fine steelwool and silvo before the final polish with Autosol Metal Polish. Let the sanding paper soak in water for a while before you use it. and rinse regularly. Don't worry if you have to buy a whole tube of polish ect, when the bug has bitten, you're doomed. Looking out for my next one already
  20. So most of you have seen the before pics of my Alan Record. Thanks to Loose cog's help with the seat post and general advice etc its done...Loving it. Still not 100% but the going to keep as is. So without any further delay, please meet Eleonore, after her face lift: Cinelli stem and Cinelli Giro D'Italia bars, Shimano 105 Groupset and hubs, Campagnolo Lambda Strada wheels (tubes topped up with sealant) some no name brand but comfy saddle. Took her for a test ride yesterday pm. It was my first time ever on a road bike but it felt ok. Now I need to decide between keeping her and letting her go. Will go for another ride the weekend and then decide. And yes, the wife isn't aware of the couch pic ok??
  21. Thanks to Loose cog I managed to get a seat post. Took the plunge and bought a few tools I will need and rebuild is to start tonight. watch this space.
  22. I'm starting to like Mondays all of a sudden...
  23. Guys, any luck with the seat posts you might have for me? Otherwise I would have to go for EvanB's option. Managed to bend the right handlebar drop back a bit, and looks ok now. So it will probably be the last bit of cleaning to do. Will carefully inspect for any cracks etc tonight. Luckily I have a spare set of handlebars now in any case. I had a thought over the weekend as well. This here is the first pic of the bike. Now picture her with a white saddle, handlebar tape and also white gear and brake cable housings.
  24. This here is a pic of my headache. The nail next to it shows the distance something can be inserted if welded. Part of me wants to repair it, but then again Im not too sure if this is the way to go. Another hubber pm'ed me about another post he has that might fit. If that doesnt work out, we could talk again. Just dont want to do anyone here in with a broken seatpost. But thanks once again for the advice!
  25. Ok all you friendly people..its a 25.4mm...now the wait! Thanks for offering to help... The handlebars were bent beyond straightning without compromising the alu, but got a good one for 40 bucks..
