  1. I would like to know as well... Did a race recently, got a race number board (organisers said if you dont want to buy the mtn cycling number,. they will take it back afterwards) They didnt, so can I use that number again etc etc etc Jammer ek het jou vraag ge-hijack Gerhard
  2. Jason, dude, "the couch" is ONLY intended for a MTB, nothing else. Either to have its photo taken to be posted on the HUB or for your bike to sleep on, snugly wrapped in a fleecy blanket! My wife's had it in terms of me babbling about the joys of MTB'ing, my training ride I just had and all the tales of my training partner. We eventually came to an agreement: She will pretend to be interested in all my stories etc, and I will pretend to be interested in her babbling about the latest craze in Scrap booking. I once remarked that SCRAP isnt part of the name for nothing, needless to say I had to run for my life!
  3. Hey guys While on this subject. Just came from the Doctor this morning. Have a throat infection, noise congested at times, irritating cough and a bit of a temperature. Will start anti-biotics today. So it means I will have to finish it, wait two days and then start training lightly only?
  4. Dont even think to mention the words "power balance bands" or youre in for a pounding. Oops....
  5. DMC, you have to remind yourself everyday. It helps me a lot as well when there is this tough climb ahead... Sheez enough of the serious stuff
  6. Mine comes from 5 years ago when I went through a rough patch with severe personal emotional pain involved. It helped me a great deal and means that you must let the past remain in the past, dont worry too much about things to come, you have more thean enough power within you to overcome anything.
  7. I Also bought a basic entry level bike a bit more than two months ago. Paid R4000-00 at Solomons. They have some specials on at the moment. (www.solomons.co.za) Not too badly specced and has gone through a fair amount of abuse so far without any hassles. Otherwise have a look right here on the HUB in the FOR SALE section, maybe your friend will get lucky there. You will then find you get a higher specced bike for much less. From what I've learnt in my short time here on the HUB is that you need at least Mechanical Disk Brakes, and Shimano Deore shifters, brakes and deralieurs (front and rear) Aluminium frame is way to go. I know of a bike shop in Waterkloof Ridge area that sell second hand bikes as well (me thinks) Bester Cycles. Another suggestion is to phone all the Bike shops around after a google search and see what they have. Good Luck!
  8. hehee Dirt*girl you certainly know how to put most of our minds in overdrive...keep it up...you sound like an awesomely cool chick To Prozac: Check out this link, and then decide/realise that perhaps asking such as question on the HUB was not the best thing to do.... http://www.ratbags.com/rsoles/comment/powerbalance.htm
  9. Thanks Muddy, will be checking it out for sure...Flippit i've only been mtb'ing for 2 and half months now, and it just keeps on getting better and better. AWESOME Vid Muddy!!!
  10. A big Whoop Whoop to the guys building all the new trails at the Monument! Not doing the race on the 7th of August though and on this Sunday doing another race. Been there once, and found it to be totally awesome despite being a small area at that time. If some of you have contacts with the guys building/maintaining the trails there, I would like to suggest something like a notice board indicating all the routes and starting points etc. This is just to help guys like me to get onto the right track. Since I plan to go there on a more regular basis, I would even be willing to contribute towards this.
  11. I agree that it's getting expensive. BUT... Before I started with MTB I played golf quite often. Now if you consider that for a relatively cheap membership you pay around R1500-00 per annum, it's still R100-00 per game (average). Then take into acocunt your halfway house munchies as well as the customary few beers at the 19th hole. I havent even mentioned your accessories like clothes, shoes, balls, tees etc etc etc. That's why I made a decision at the beginning to do only one race per month, and choose the races I do carefully. Most are between R90 and R120. I liked what the guys at the Redstone MTB series did. If you enter for all three upfront you pay for example R215 for the three 30km races. I know it would change when I upgrade to the longer distances next year, but this is my situation now. And most of the Gautengers would agree that not all the races are on boring public dirt roads. We are quite lucky here, in that we ca easily do races in North West and Limpopo provinces with not much travelling. What I dont understand however is the fact that some races require certain numbers for seeding AND then you can purchase a CSA Lisence as well. What are the purpose of all of these? What is the money we pay used for? I would like to enter a stage race as well sometime in the next year. Then you must look at the alternatives as well. Some are over 3 days and are in the region of R3500-00 per team.
  12. yeah, just like some people will always find ways to have something negative to say about other people's comments, actually not contributing to the discussion. I dont go anywhere near CycleLab anyway...bunch of snobs
  13. But how on earth can they offer "better" prices online than in their stores? Then they must either stop trading, or get a completely new name. It boils down to UNETHICAL behaviour and (to quote RacingSnail)Shopping Cartel/Cycle Lab probably says it all.
  14. From what I heard last week...only 4 or so of the shops on this list will pay the fine in the end. FP Cycles and the Lab one with the online store. Dont know if there is any truth in that. Went to a LBS in the Waterkloof Centre next to Mugg & Bean (the Beste(rs) cycles in the world) and they manager just came from their attorneys and told me that. They will not pay the fine
  15. Even from my side. being a Blue Bull supporter and all, they should let Bakkies go. He is too much of a liability to both his province and country
  16. Ok, I know this may be old news, but me suporting Lance is totally based on his comeback after cancer, enhis never say die attitude. Have immense respect for the man....doping allegations or not
  17. At last I am the proud owner of a brand new pair of Olympic Hurricane iii MTB shoes, as Nolipoli mentioned for the amazing price of R499-00. Thanks for the advice Top Fuel, what do you think one can put on there to prevent much damage? I was thinking along the line of the same clear sticker used to prevent scuff marks on your bike frame?? Not 100% sure if this is the correct description Gerhard, well compared to the Holdfast Bike Rack (Note: no towbar on my car...EVER) it is R600 more, BUT if you look at the cost of installing a towbar PLUS buying the biker rack...I think the clip on on WINS. BUT back to the original topic: I sincerely hope the MTB gods will forgive my sin of buying crappy MTB shoes.
  18. Ja ja ja Gerhard, ek weet...in the bigger scheme of things, an extra R200 would not have made a difference! So I will get the olympics today!! On a completely different note: That Thule Clip-on bike rack maybe was a bit pricy but the service from the salesman was EXCELLENT, and it's so easy to attach to boot lid and easy to take of and store
  19. Boon: Thanks mate, size 10 I'm looking for. Mark: I like their cycling shirts, and bought compression top serving as base layer for those cold winter rides, but for the rest? BLegh Those SIDI shoes look awesome, but a bit above my price range at the moment.
  20. Having paid for a Thule clip on bike rack, pedals, pepper spray etc I bought a pair of shoes at Mr P. Put on cleats last night and SNAP...the "plate" inside the shoe broke! what a load of crap. am still lekke bed*nnerd. Soooo will be taking them back today and going the Olympics route.
  21. Pardon me for being ignorant or not knowledgeable enough on this subject, but what does this mean for Mr Average Joe, who happens to be cycling as well? Probably zero, silch zip as the loss they will encur from the 10% fine will probably be refelcted in a price increase in their shops.
  22. Whoop whoop!! congrats. Takes me back to 6 Feb last year when my boy was born. Its amazing being a father. I have already bought him his first bike. Good luck with your shopping!
  23. There is a lot of compressionm garments on the market it seems. I bought the compression top from Mr P SPorts, just to serve as a base layer for winter, and it works for me. I HAVE to wear compression socks each day due to some problem with the veins (Thrombosis due to sport injury in younger days) in my lower left leg and were prescribed Mediven Travel. Use it when I work, drive and cycle to generally improve blood circulation. So do you know this "brand" and should rockets be just as good? Thanks
  24. Guys what about the ones at Mr Price Sport? MXD Challenger III 4-12
  25. Yo yo yo klein basie, djy kan hom trap die baaisiekêl Shite, just give me two years and I'll be glad to join you...all the best in search of a partner
