  1. LOL - shall we resurrect the Robbie Hunter vs Greg Minnaar fight from all those years ago
  2. My Wife has a very successful Triathlon Coaching Company and she went to the Youth Olympics in 2018 as the Junior Triathlon Coach/Team Manager so she has a lot to do with Juniors as well as parents - and by default I get to hear some of the stories. It's very similar in Triathlon - there are only 30 or so places on the WTS league and if you don't have the points you just don't get to go. A lot of parents have got pretty angry with her when she's pointed out that your kid needs to at least be winning an African Cup race before you can even think of going overseas. The other thing that probably needs mention is Parents that agree to let their kids leave school to pursue a career in sport. It takes one crash (John Lee Augustyn), or one stupid celebrity Touch rugby match (that's you Wade) or one night of passion (we'll keep that one a secret!) and your career is over at 20. You better have something solid to fall back on!
  3. This pretty much sums up the gist of the last few posts here. Louis is for all intents and purposes one of the best cyclists to to come out of South Africa and he's probably going to struggle to get a team next year. The fact that he isn't guaranteed of a Team should prove to Mom and Dad that young Billy is most likely never going to make it as a pro.
  4. I agree - something similar to the NFL Draft pick would work really well.
  5. Have you had much to to with Luke Moir - looks like he is also making some serious progress in Europe?
  6. If the Primož Roglič story is true and has not been given too much artistic licence then you can start cycling at 23 and still make it as a pro
  7. Quick Poll: What do you think will stretch more - their devotion or that 13sp chain
  8. He obviously didn't read this thread. Because if he did, he would know everesting is easy if you have the right gearing......
  9. So we had some fun this weekend up Surrender Hill. We were initially going to play a bit in Golden Gate but the wind was really hectic and we had some people on the camp who were not that experienced so we decided to play it safe. More importantly though, my Father-in-Law runs GoSport Events and he was on the camp. So we bounced the idea around of having a hillclimb at Klapperkop. He reckons it wouldn't cost too much to close the road so I have asked him to put something together to see what an event might cost. We thought about Tom Jenkins but that might just be a bit too hectic and would probably scare off a lot of beginners. Big question - do you think there is an opportunity to have a timed hillclimb race or should we all just stick to Strava?
  10. I'm not going to lie, that's where I got the idea - I remember reading up about it years ago in one of the Bicycling Mags and they reckoned it was blast
  11. There's quite a big difference in the spread of Athletes which are going - some beginners on MTB's, some really lightweight Juniors and a few Mamils with R150k+ bikes so I had to come up with some way to make it attractive for all - everyone is quite keen actually, with some of the faster guys even planning to ride with a few extra kg's in the form of Beer in a backpack. It's on the last day, so there will be fines aplenty. Especially if someone's Wife on a MTB beats their Husband on a Venge. If it works out we might look at something similar in Gauteng - i think there is a need for some fun events again after lockdown
  12. Oops. Not very complimentary https://www.cyclingnews.com/features/tour-de-france-team-by-team-ratings/
  13. Nope. Watts - very Std 8 Ep=mGh. We have the height of the climb. So if we have the total mass then you can work out the Potential Energy needed to get to the top. Watts =J/sec. Mass (Rider and Bicycle) g (m/s^2) Climb(m) Ep (Joules) Time Taken (s) Watts (Joule/sec) W/kg 88 9.807 250 215754.00 700.000 308.220 3.503 John Smith78 9.807 250 191236.50 600.000 318.728 4.086 Amy120 9.807 250 294210.00 900.000 326.900 2.724 Fat Bob Yes I know there are tons of other variables and it's not the right way to do it, but for a fun event, Fat Bob can go up the mountain slowest and actually win.
  14. We've got a Dinamic Coaching training camp out Clarens way this weekend and we've got a little TT hill climb event planned for the Saturday afternoon just for a bit of fun. We're making it a little different though in that we will weigh you in full kit with your bike before you start and then calculate your total Watts. The one putting out the most calculated Watts wins - that way, Fat Bob and Skinny Amy both have a fair chance.
  15. Ya I love the way he casually cuts a camshaft in half with his angle grinder while holding it with his foot. And I doubt his trusty gas barbeque has ever seen anything other than engine parts being prepped for welding.
  16. One of the old race bikes we had. Rebuilt it and stuck a fake headlight and taillight on. We take it out once a year to Clarens where the Cops generally turn a blind eye.
  17. Tell them they are lucky they don't have me for a neighbour. And then play them this. That will be the end of any discussion.

It would make sense - he's on top for the first half and then as the rubber wears he fades to always come second

One of the Operators here in Krugersdorp came to work on his old GPZ550 and it was missing the exhaust. I wondered where it had gone.....

    Who remembers?

I'm so old I remember that TED stood for Transvaal Education Department and was printed on all the stationery we used to get issued to us.
  22. Myself - which is why I probably haven't done it yet. As nice as it would be it just doesn't sit well in the gut. It was good to hear everyone else's opinions though. Oh well - option two then - I used to also race a Le Turbo Grid 5 BMX - So if I can get a really nice Chrome- look paint finish, then I'm going with this. And I have no issues branding a bike a Le Turbo - hell, does anyone even still remember them?
  23. Seeing "replica" immediately reminded me of this
  24. Nah I would never consider selling it - it would be just for me only.
