  1. I know it would never be feasible, but imagine if the Olympic Triathlon Relay event was in the legends format - your best Olympic swimmer, best cyclist and then best Runner. Chad Le Clos doing the swim leg, Daryl Impey or Ryan Gibbons on the bike leg and maybe Elroy Gelant on the run leg. Especially if you combined the Male and Female teams into one event. Would have been pretty fun to watch I think
  2. Quick question for those running with Hoka's - I recently changed from Puma Faas 600 to Hoka Arahi's and while the Hoka's initially felt really good after about 40mins I started getting hotspots on the inside of my arch. I put this down to new shoes, but I've had them now for around 300km and the blisters are not going away. Now i read on some forums that specifically the Arahi's are known for this and there are quite a few people having the same issue. Anyone else who runs in this model who might be able to comment?

  4. To say we've had some fun during this lockdown is an understatement. I've seen all three of our dogs change in different ways to us being at home, and its been amazing to see. Bringing Lucy-fer the puppy into the mix has definitely shaken up the pack a bit and all three are now full of energy - our rescue from a few years back refused to walk on a lead. I gave up shortly after we got her, because you could see it was traumatic for her. About two weeks ago I got out the leads for the other two, and instead of running under the table like she would normally, she sat and watched. So I clipped a lead on her and off we went - All three together as if she had been doing it all her life. Almost as if the puppy had said to her stop being a wuss it's actually fun. The old male is still the Fun-Police and puts a stop to anything that gets out of hand, but he also looks like now he is more relaxed - almost as if he knows now that he doesn't have to protect everyone, the younger hooligan is taking his place. And Lucy-fer - We've discovered we can catch doves, we found that we like water, and we can open sliding doors now. And steal things off the table because suddenly in the last month we have grown. A lot. And we can reach the snacks. I've lost socks, charging cables, countless dishcloths, all her fluffy toys - the bear looks like a zombie because there are gaping holes where it's eyes have been chewed out, and the more i put stuff in my dustbin the more it gets taken out and chewed to pieces on the rug. But what a character. I have no idea what's in her DNA - there's definitely German Shepard, Golden Retriever, maybe Golden Spaniel, but she's fast, clever, stubborn and runs like the wind. So who knows!
  5. LOL - yaaa I also got caught out with that one. And because Mr. Zwift newbie here hasn't realised yet that you don't have to chase all the people all of the time, the Saturday before was an all out bleed through the eyeballs chase some random Japanese guy on a lumo-bike. So when Sunday's little ride arrived I only lasted 2hrs.....
  6. The ramp test she only does when she is doing a lactic test with blood samples taken from the ear and that is really accurate but also expensive so she doesn't do that too often. So we actually didn't do that - We were more trying to see if the 95%/90% 80% whatever rule correlated to a full 60min test. What we did find (well for me anyway) so it's not a sample(!) is that there was no way in hell I was going to be able to cycle for 60mins at the calculated FTP from the 20min test. But good point - going to ask her why we never did a ramp test as well....
  7. Come Denmark..... you up for a challenge?
  8. With the lockdown forcing a whole bunch of people to try (and achieve) all sorts of crazy records, has anyone in hub-land considered trying to set an hour record on an indoor trainer? With my wife being a coach, and lack of any races to train for, I have been her FTP test "guinea pig" and we have been messing around with the different types of tests - 20min vs 30min vs 3/10min vs 60min just to see which one is really accurate so she can adapt her tests and figures going forward. The 60min FTP was a real bastard but I did start wondering if there was some sort of record out there.....
  9. I'm new on Zwift but I have found that running is a lot more fun on a treadmill now that I have something to watch. I did my first Zwift workout yesterday and did find at one point on the route I was passing bikes which were on a 9% uphill and I was running on a 2% gradient. But then at one stage I was doing a 10% set on the treadmill and the bikes were going downhill so swings and roundabouts I guess. I think until you have a smart treadmill (if such a thing exists) then the benefit of Zwift Running will be to alleviate boredom. Having said that, the workout I did was pretty evil - 5 x 8min sets at 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% and I didn't crook so I felt it this morning!
  10. I have been running with Stryd for about 3 years now so I am very familiar with Power running. My CP for running is around 300W. When I was at my very fittest and strongest a few years back it was around 330W. I don't think in all my training have I ever hit 400W+ even on some proper uphills. To run at an Average of 431W is incredible. Hats off to Richard - that is a brilliant run.
  11. Definitely - check at 34:00...
  12. Check from 21:10
  13. Watch the SA GP and see how the guys exit the pits after they change tyres. None of this girly pit lane limiter stuff. It's foot flat and opposite lock all the way down the pitlane - and tough **** if you are a mechanic in the way. It's your own fault for not getting out of the path.....
  14. Proper racing.
  15. I also remember that the Yamaha V12 and the Lamborghini V12 (when it ran!) were LOUD!
  16. I have some pics too that I dug out - I was there in 1992 - my dad had contacts with Sasol so we were able to get really close to the Sasol Jordan team. Can't remember though if the circuit had changed by then? I shall bring them in and scan them tomorrow
  17. Looked like a good old Jhb thunderstorm. Jody definitely used his home advantage!
  18. Watched the 79 GP at Kyalami on the weekend. There was an (in the words of Murray Walker) INCREDIBLY fast pitstop to change to slicks of around 16 seconds.....
  19. I've been watching the 1979 F1 season - someone has loaded the footage onto Youtube. Really enjoying it. Watched this last night - worth a watch! https://youtu.be/yq7Rv0IrCzU
  20. Maybe VR46 goes to Renault
  21. I do - if my memory serves me correctly it was a 50p o-ring which failed in the end.
  22. I think Damon Hill leaving Williams for Arrows in 1997 will be difficult to beat!
  23. Ja they say if you remove three teeth from your rear sprocket you get a higher top speed
  24. If I dared parking one of my bikes in our lounge I would still be in self-isolation long after the Virus has left our shores
  25. Been watching a few of this guys videos. He's a genius. Just don't try it at home - much like a Haynes Manual, his descriptions make it sound way too easy.
