  1. How easy was it to calibrate? Or did you just do the setup and leave it at that?
  2. No Sh*t. I managed to get it spot on and very stable at 39/13, 14, 15, but the moment you move into the 53/11 or 12, the chain is miles off the centreline of the sensor and It varies between the power of Jens and the power of the girl on the tricycle down the road.....
  3. Yup - it's all ant+ so it will pick up fine, I'm just tired of sukkeling with the Polar and its PMS-esq erratic readings, so I really don't want the same issues with the new setup....
  4. I've finally given up trying to defend my Polar power meter (even on the Indoor Trainer I could never get it to behave properly!), and I managed to pick up an ex-team Powertap hub and wheel. This will go onto my training bike which rarely if ever leaves the house. I mainly use Garmin for my outdoor training - I have an Edge500 for the Road/MTB (soon to be updated to an 800 for Jhb2c), and a Forerunner 410 for my running, and I use the Garmin software so I don't really want to change brand. The plan is then to leave the Edge500 on the IDT with the speed and cadence sensor in place. So the question is, does an Edge500 work well with a Powertap, or is there a better Garmin unit (310XT, 910XT) which will read more accurately?
  5. Thanks all - will try and get booked in tonight!
  6. Thought about that - any specific B&B or lodge you can recommend?
  7. I'm keen to take the Wife away for a weekend, where we also plan to do a bit of MTB'ing - we need to fit in a 4hr ride on Saturday and a 15km run Sunday. Mankele is fully booked, as are our usual spots in Bethlehem/Clarens/Fouriesburg. Can anyone suggest a good spot - no more than about 3hrs from PTA which has great riding but is also good just to chill a bit away from the rat-race?
  8. Hey then I can use my old Foretrex 200 - it was good enough for Enduro Africa and the battery lasts about a month :-)
  9. That's what I suspected. How's the battery life though - heard its not that good?
  10. It looks like JHB2C next year is also going to be a self-navigated event - so I'll need to upgrade my trusty Edge500 to something capable of accepting maps. is the Edge800 the logical choice, or does anyone have a better suggestion?
  11. Had a problem with my Forerunner that I bought from him - sent it back last week Thursday and yesterday a new one arrived - no issues! Sure, I suppose I could have taken it to Garmin SA myself, but I like dealing with someone I can build a relationship with. Thanks again Matthew....
  12. My first and still my favourite - unfortunately the frame cracked and I couldn't afford the equivalent 2011 frame so I had to move to the dark (Japanese) side
  13. He reckons coming Dec '13, at about $500 for the levers alone
  14. This just sent to me from my Cyclist mate in Japan..... I cant read the details, but the pictures tell the story..... http://www.cyclesports.jp/articles/detail.php?id=292
  15. Just like they said above while I was typing
  16. Yup - good advice! I have all three, and I rarely use the TT bike other than for races. it's a real pain to train on a TT bike, and I have found that when I go out with the club to train (safer than training alone!), I'm usually banished to the back of the group. You drop them on the flats, they get you back on the hills, and you end up being accused of riding like a prat, even if you try your best not to. Get an Aero road bike, bang on some nice tri-bars, and get a decent Aero Helmet with nice deep dish wheels....
  17. Hmmmm - Thanks! Hopefully I can negotiate out of the "Coffee in bed for a week" bet I lost!
  18. Luckily mine is only about 10months old! Still under warranty :-)
  19. Fair enough, but I have a good relationship with EasyGis, and I believe that when you have a good point of contact like I do with Matthew , I'd rather wait a few weeks and use him. I'm also sure that this isn't going to be a quick repair, but rather a replace (given what I have researched - some of the 410's have a glitch when you regularly use the System Shut down feature), so it probably would have had to go through them anyway.
  20. So while my Forerunner 410 is back at Garmin being repaired/replaced, I used my Wife's 910XT. She mentioned to me that she wasn't able to download her swimsets onto Garmin TC (Not Garmin Connect - we don't use that). So the male in me said, crap, I'll show you what you are doing wrong. Hmmmm, after I wiped the egg off my face and lost the "Whose turn is it to make Coffee" bet, she's right - it will download the Run and Cycling sets, but not the Swimsets. Anyone else have this problem?
  21. Did that, and the other 'factory reboot' given to me by Garmin - nothing. Remains dead to the world! Anyway, sent it off yesterday to Matthew at Easygis- lets see what they say......
  22. Anyone out there who has restored an old DHC? If so, I have a steering tube badge which I'm willing to part with, if it's going to a good home :-)
  23. I had an interesting bike - my Dad was the GM at Iscor in Vanderbijlpark in the '80's and they supported Ertjies (he was a planner at Iscor I think). He organised through Ertjies a pre-production Le Turbo Grid 5 - the fancy one. It was slightly different to the ones which were for sale eventually, in that the frame bracing was almost identical to the Redlines. But it had all the fancy parts - Araya rims, Sugino crank, Dia Compe Brakes, UNI Seat, Knarler Knobbly Tyres.... I think we had to pay about R550 for it back then, and still had to assemble it ourselves..... Damn, I wish I still had it now :-(
