  1. I think Uran is probably better one on one in the TT, but I dont see him hanging with Quintana on some of those really serious slopes, I dont think the TT will play as big a part the gaps on the big mountains will be too big, this is a climbers race, and at the moment Quintana is by far the best. As for Horner, the less said about him the better...........!
  2. True, but Rodriguez came into the TDF half cooked as it was, I dont think he will have a problem getting up to speed for the Vuelta. I think it may be more of a mental recovery issue than a physical one for most of these "older" guys, but truth be told, the course probably wont suit either Valverde or Rodriguez, both great climbers but preferring shorter steeper climbs than we find here at the Vuelta. Quintana should however be in his element, Uran as well, but if I had to pick one it would be difficult to bet against Quintana.
  3. Hmm, it is quite amazing to think its 10 years, I still have that Giro on DVD here, one of the best races I ever watched, Simoni who at the time was the king of the Giro was squarely beaten by a younger, stronger Cunego, to be fair though Cunego would never have won without the coaching of a wiley old goat on the team who told him when to sit and when to attack, Eddy Mazzoleni. Without Eddy taking a young and inexperienced Cunego under his wing I submit Damiano would never have won. I always liked Cunego,....sadly until three years ago when at the Giro he allowed his ego to get the better of him and going off on a lone attempt which was doomed to fail he left Scarponi, who was on the same team and fighting to hold Pink totally without support, isolated Scarponi could not cover every attack and lost the race. This pic tells the story better than I. Anyway, it does seem the guard is changing, but I wouldn't write either Valverde or Rodriguez off just yet.
  4. Sounds like a keeper, if the price is right I would grab it.
  5. Ja well, what can I say bud,.. you know the neighbourhood ....! ..But yes those old retro style Harleys are beautiful machines I agree, no other bike that lends itself to personalisation quite like a Harley.
  6. Yah, I agree, I ride a Harley and I love it. I have riden bikes all my life and i have enjoyed every minute of it, I make no apologies. The issue is not about people who ride Harley's or BMW's, its not about people who drive Audi's or Merc's, these generalisations are insulting, and the often tossed in "fat" comment is unnecessary as well,... ....the issue has nothing to do with these modes or brands of transport, its an issue of a perceived (rightly or wrongly) injustice. Nothing more, Nothing less. If an issue cant be discussed without resorting to derogatory and insulting comments, in my opinion there is really nothing much else to say.
  7. I am sure I saw Suzuki there last year Nathrix? I obviously cant comment on this year as I am in Canada, but I seem to think it was Honda who missed last year.....but yup look, I could be wrong. Ducati I cant remember been there as you mention. It would be a great pity to see Suzuki lose the little market share they have, I have always had a soft spot for their bikes ever since i bought a 1100GSX many, many years ago but it seems both they and Honda have some problems in this market as, in my opinion their bikes are a lot better than their representation on the streets. Last year I really enjoyed the amid show, BMW as usual had an excellent stand as did Yamaha, both market leaders and it showed, I also seem to recall that KTM had a good stand last year. Nice to see Indian making a bit of a come back, I always like their machines, a bit like the modern Victory, which over here in the USA is doing very, very well.
  8. Really, I never quite noticed that. Guess I haven't been riding Harleys long enough. How long will it be before I notice this odd personality change?
  9. I saw a piece in the newspaper here on Monday or Tuesday, where they asked Khalid Galant of the institute of drug free sport about it. He said he was unaware of any sport supplement containing probenecid and "as far as he is aware" it is a stand alone prescription drug. When asked if an athlete could take Probenecid without knowing, he replied "I am not sure" Can one take a prescription drug without knowing? Not looking too good in my opinion.
  10. No I haven't actually, I read the story line there, looks quite interesting. I wonder if its still available as a dvd or something.?
  11. Yah, with respect, I dont quite figure what "been a great guy" has to do with it but then maybe I am just jaded. Anyway, I will be following the outcome with interest, if only to see if there is consistency in sanctioning, 'Berto claimed tainted food and got nailed to the cross, Rogers claimed tainted food and got off scott free, Mr Impey it appears, has also claimed tainted food,... I am keen to hear the outcome.
  12. It does indeed. I still think the underground biker movement, especially in the USA, was largely influenced by Easy Rider, it spoke to the social influences at the time and the care free hippy generation of flowers, music and LSD, I am not sure it would have achieved such iconic status had they been driving a suburban Ford station-wagon, it was, to me anyway, the beginning of the real biker outlaw era. Think I need to go pull it out and watch it again, maybe tonight.
  13. I think you would be very hard pressed to develop big muscular legs from one session of squats a week, no matter how hard you tried. At best its just going to tone what you have, at worst it will make no difference whatsoever. Ask any bodybuilder what it took to develop even remotely adequate legs, Squats to failure with heavy, heavy poundage, at least three or four times a week, leg presses to failure, leg extensions to failure and absolutely no cycling or running or any kind, even if its just 20 minutes on the stationary bike, or any kind of aerobic exercise as it simply cuts into and negates the muscle building process. It reminds me of the ladies that come to the gym and stress "We dont want to get big by doing weights" .....Hmm, Yeah, well, dont worry, fortunately its not that easy.
  14. Yup, me too, I eat it all, and drink a few beers, and I have at least one glass of wine every night, and my cholesterol is 3.9. No statins, and I have weighed the same since I was in the army over 40 years ago, 73 / 74 Kgs so there is clearly also a flip side to this diet as well. As far as I am concerned you just need to balance what goes in food wise with what goes out energy wise, changing either of those reference points will result in a change of weight either up or down.
  15. Indeed, "Easy Rider" was great, I have it on DVD and still often pull it out and watch it. I must have seen it 6,7,8 times, never gets boring. I thought of including it here, but its very much a cult movie, a kind of start to the Motorcycle gang lifestyle if you like and not to everybody taste, plus its from the 70's and I am guessing many folk here weren't even born then.
  16. Thats real nice. When I bought a house once the owner had a stripped down K100 in the garage. It was beautiful and I offered to buy it as part of the house fixtures and fittings but he was having nothing of it, turned out he was an old BMW collector but now just built up old BMW bikes and sold them on. Did everything himself form the stripping to the machining to the spray painting, a real perfectionist but his work was impeccable. He later came around one day and showed it to me when it was finished, wish I can find the photo but it was almost better than factory finish, craftsmen like that are hard to find today.
  17. I am also a bit of an insomniac, I tried melatonin but it never worked for me. Personally I dont stress about it and I dont take tablets, eventually when I am tired enough I sleep. I think some folk just need less sleep than others, the old 7 hours a night is too much for me, usually I can make do on about 4/5 hours and still function normally.
  18. Yah, the lion King was superb, an absolute hit in Europe. I was in France when it was released and all these Frenchies were walking around the streets singing Hakuna Matata. it was crazy.
  19. Big thumbs down here, I disliked this movie intensely, apart from the visual attraction of Uma Thurman, I thought it had little going for it, unnecessarily violent and relied more on shock content that story line.
  20. No never read the books either, I missed one or two of the series on the movies, but by the power of DSTV and the untold reruns I have since watched them all. They were okay I concur, the first one I did think was really good, but as they progressed they became rather predictable, still worth a mention here I think.
  21. Its strange because I generally dont like fantasy either, but I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings, the story is excellent and the sets something quite magnificent. The last Hobbit story was a bit of a let down I thought, I enjoyed it for what it was, but for me anyway it wasn't as good as the Lord of the rings. Which brings us the the Harry Potter series..........?
  22. Hah, yeah, one of Steve Martins better movies. I still chuckle at that part where he pretends his legs are lame.....! Another chuckle is "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" John Candy was a hoot there as well. His recent ones are rubbish though (Steve not John) and makes me think he will do any nonsense to make a few bucks, the "Better by the dozen" series is a case in point, pure drivel.
  23. Yes I hear you, but I guess they could argue they sell things on a "special" price everyday, and now its just an "extra special" price....I know what you mean but I think its more confusing than misleading, because ultimately you still pay the negotiated price on the sticker at the time, - they offer, you accept, - theres no underhanded business, the "fluff" on the advert getting you to buy is just a sales tool, I honestly think you would be hard pressed to justify this as a breach of the consumer protection act.
  24. I think its hard to do with certain lines, say for example Milk, Coffee, Tea, Baked Beans whatever because you buy these things so regularly that you sort of know the price in your head so if someone says Coffee was 50 bucks now 20 bucks save 30 bucks, you know its not true, because you buy it there all the time and its always 30 bucks. You may still say " Haay, I need coffee and 10 bucks is better in my pocket" or you may say its not worth my time for 10 bucks, either way you know where you stand price wise. However, I do agree its a lot harder when you dont know the price because you dont buy it regularly, and here you really rely on the retailers integrity to promote sales items honestly. Take for example a TV, its difficult and time consuming to go look at all the different models and compare manufacturers and warranty periods and pixels and colour accents and size and so on, so you look at the "suggested retail" of a few you like then look at "Their price on special" and you make a decision. Not ideal I agree but I guess it is what it is, Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
  25. Yah, Taxi Driver was great, not too crazy about Raging bull though. I agree as I said early in the thread Apocalypse Now was a ground breaker, "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning" and at the end "The Horror, The Horror" epitomized two opposite thoughts, so common in Nam movies. But then lets not forget "The Deerhunter" another great movie from the era and a more recent one "Platoon" which to me is one of the best movies ever, Tom Berenger as Sergeant Barnes played the part so well I still get goosies thinking about it.
