  1. Holla is expensive as there is such a vast no. of kilometres to mark and maintain. When you see the work they (and Giba) put in, I have absolutely no problem paying the fee. Those cane farmers have no obligation to cut or allow trails to be cut on THEIR property. If you ride for even one metre on their land without permission, you are trespassing. You are not entitled to be there - and this is valid for any land-owner who chooses to allow riding on their property. They can just as easily revoke that permission and close and lock their gates.
  2. +1 - take the money and put towards a decent buy.
  3. You need the patience of a saint in London traffic. That said, if you are going to start something, you really should be equipped to deal with the consequences when they arise.
  4. Gummibear seems to have disappeared.... Miss those awesome pics of European bikes and landscapes.
  5. Seems to me that there were a lot of builders around at some time or another in South Africa - certainly more than I thought. You always learn a bit more every day when you like the old bikes.
  6. If built in JHB could be a DHC frame? Never seen that seat-clamp arrangement before.
  7. beautiful!
  8. Those time bonuses he earned paid off handsomely! Gutsy, gritty rider. Good on him.
  9. Droolworthy bikes, for sure! The Club Racer remains my modest dream....
  10. Thanks guys! Really appreciate it! Less is sometimes much more. I just wish I had the components to match the frame. I am going to get it sorted and running, so that I can ride it, then replace selected parts as and when I can. Should be a wonderful journey.
  11. So....my frame is back from paint. Settled on a classic design, and had the main logos painted, rather than use the decals I purchased. Very happy with the work done, and the fact that a bunch of glorious chrome was exposed. I will apply the Columbus decals and the smaller olmo decals I had made to complete the frame. More detailed pics and the build process to follow.
  12. anything by phil and paul.... check out this link....hilarious! http://www.liggettfan.com/
  13. nice! keep us in the loop!
  14. Trail poachers will be the death of land access.
  15. I did just that!
  16. Point taken. I agree, to a point. It just doesn't bother me personally. I've been a chef for 20+ years, and I've always been the umlungu. I have been called that by people who would lay down their lives for me, such is their loyalty. Again, my 2c, my experience.
  17. These will be very easy to spot: not many of them around in South Africa, let alone Durban. Will definitely keep a lookout.
  18. Who care what race anyone is? The word(umlungu)refers to " the white scum/foam that from the sea",i.e the foam generated by waves in the surf - a reference to the white people who emerged from the sea so many years ago Originally a derogatory term (which it may still be) , but almost universally used to describe white people. It apparently has many meanings, all of which depend on context and inflection. The pejorative will be so,in context of a situation or discussion. Doesn't bother me in the least.
  19. Didn't use the Cotic this time? Congrats on the ride!
  20. This really gets me going!
  21. Well put.
  22. I'm glad I did not comment and jump the gun before. I was way off the mark except for the geometry aspect. I have learned something new (and useful) today. Thanks people.
  23. Just read it: what a crock of steaming poo!
  24. I'm in for this one.
