  4. If you have reasonable pool fitness you will not have a problem at uShaka. In fact, make the most of your oppurtunity to enjoy an open water swim, it is a wonderful experience out there. the sea is very safe in that area, and the swell will most likely be negligible.Durban open water swimming in June is an awesome experience - the Dolphin mile event the other weekend was accompanied by a pod of Dolphins!
  5. #1888 for me. Looking forward to my 3rd. Taking leave for 2 weeks from tuesday so I will not be doing one bit of training over that time, but I cannot wait!!!
  6. Awesome. Well done to both of you and Great write up.
  7. I have the new Tall Boy, and it is sooo much better than my Tall Boy 1. Do you ride Virginia Trails at all? Give me a shout if you do and you are keen for a gentle trail ride - some of the trails go through my farm. Cheers.

    Give it a TRI

Do yourself a favour and substitute your traditional strength sessions with kettlebell sessions, it strengthens your core, lower back, hamstrings etc. You wont believe the diffrence it will make to your swimming, cycling and running.
  13. If there is any way possible for us to contribute to the costs involved, please let us know.
  14. This is so very sad. I have no words.... As mentioned earlier, can someone not start a collection so that a private investigator can be tasked with tracking down these killers. I would be very happy to donate.
  15. You can get over it by starting off slowly in the pool, building up fitness, then swimming in protected open water situations. You must have the fitness to build confidence. Another good idea is to do the open water swimming with a safety buoy attached, and this gives peace of mind. Also, find someone who is an accomplished open water swimmer, and ask them to tag along on your open water swims until you feel more comfortable. Ironman is so awesome that you do not want this to stop you from doing it.
  16. At least you have found out now, and not the day after your event. You will feel great after the treatment! Do yourself a favour and go for another blood test in about three months time, to make absolutely sure that you have got rid of it 100% It does come back, trust me, I know, I have been battling with this parasite on and off for about 30 years!

    Give it a TRI

Dave, forgot to add in my previous post, a full IM is a significant step up from a 70.3, but it is well worth it.

    Give it a TRI

Dave, firstly, you must really want to do it, the full IM that is. Then, get a training programme and stick to it. Get your nutrition right, for training and race day, as it is possibly THE most important aspect of this adventure. Once you have got these items sorted, and you have buy-in from your family, then GO FOR IT. It is an awesome experience, and you can do it!!!
  19. Awesome ScottC! I know there are a few negatives associated with this event, but overall it is well worth doing.

    Give it a TRI

breaker, if you can do each of the distances individually over the course of a couple of days, then you are more than ready to attempt a 70.3 distance triathlon (with some training thrown in). When I am starting my training for a specific event, my goal is to at least do the distance for each leg over the course of a week. i.e. for the 70.3 event, I will try swim 1.9km, cycle 90km and then run 21km in a week. If I can do this relatively comfortably, then I know that I am fit enough to finish the event. To then finish it well, I then add to that very basic formula.
  21. Any idea when the race report will be out? Or have I missed it?
  22. Good luck on the day !! Please keep the posts coming. Awesome dream come true scenario.
  23. Hello Ladies and Gents, I have been entertained by the Hub for a while now, and I think I may have a total of one post. Anyway, I am a farmer in KZN with a MTB and Triathlon problem. Have been competing in TRI since 1988, so the problem seems to be persisting in a bad way. Google Virginia Trails and that is my playground - I live next door. Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself. Cheers Rob
