  1. i put a trailseeker category sticker on my nissan as a bumper sticker . Missed the shirts by 1 event 4/5 events should get a vest at least.
  2. +1 - regularly take my bike in there for a service and have never had an issue. They installed my fork (when I upgraded from spring to air), built up my American Classics and did the rebuild from alu frame to carbon. All well priced and good service. It's always come back cleaned too, even when in for something minor. Strange to hear about the kuk service you've had, Pierre... Hopefully everything gets sorted for you.
  3. In golf its called "FORE"
  4. I'm a scratch player. I hit the ball and then scratch for it.
  5. yep, one of the reasons being that if you ride more you get better / quicker / fitter, but it's not the same linear relationship in golf. You can play for years and still suck.
  6. Some forums encourage users to refer to "Swim" (Someone Who Isn't Me) in the 3rd person to prevent self-incrimination.
  7. I find it pretty easy, I remove the core about once a month to top up sealant (I get a lot of punctures ). The chain breaker section on my multitool fits around the core, not sure if it was designed to do this or just chance (the core has 2 flat sides).
  8. No you don't. It's under the "Private settings" heading - i.e. only you see it on your own profile, no-one else.
  9. I have sexdaily too. I mean dyslexia. Dmanit.
  10. This is thehub. Not Oprah.
  11. yoh. I though my 4 on a 20km was bad. Mine is MTB + initials "bc". MTBbc sounds like a really old bike or a stutter, so i dropped a b
  12. It might be (a little) more interesting to hear about the origins of hub names....
  13. i prefixed it with MTB. you should c my real name.
  14. Howsit Johan, how you doing boet, never knew you were on thehub or even rode.

    swim sets

Do you count strokes in openwater swims? Had my first pool session yesterday, and I make sure that I always breathe facing the same side of the pool, so relatively 1 length left, next length right. I don't find it that easy to switch per-stroke. Do you know more or less your distance to stroke count ratio too, is this useful at all? I counted for the first time yesterday, and doing 20 strokes per 25m. Last question: if you're using interval training, do you try and use those same intervals in an openwater race? My training and openwater swims have always just been "get in and swim"
  17. No disrespect meant by "popo", it originates from an acronym for Police Officer and isn't derogatory as far as I'm aware. Will definitely swing past later. Thanks for the confirmation Hairy.
  18. Good morning hubbers, On my commute in this morning, I had a close call with a taxi on Cedar at 8:20, just past Broadacres. I was riding inside the yellow lane (which was about 10cm wide, just on the road verge), when the taxi basically rode into me from behind, hooting about 2 seconds before impact, and then hitting my elbow & then handlebar with his rear view mirror. Close call, and really grateful at the outcome - no severe damage to me (still saying my thanks) or the bike, but if the taxi was 15cm more to the left, there's a good chance I would have ended up under his wheel. I feel angry (as most of us do when threatened) at his reckless driving. As I tried to flag him down, he just shrugged at me and drove off. I don't believe these sort of incidents should be left undealt with, and there should be some recourse for the driver's recklessness. The taxi was DA branded and I have the registration number (XNX 023 GP), and besides reporting this incident to the police, another cyclist who was just in front of me who witnessed the incident suggested that I take this up with a local DA rep (thanks for the suggestion bud, whoever you are) as it's not likely anything will come about by reporting it to the popo's. I know it's not the DA's responsibility, but should they not have some responsibility in following up / dealing with the drivers negligence? Before I head down that route, i wanted to get some feedback from the cycling community as to what I could / should do.
  19. 1 year warranty and 18 month old battery. :-/
  20. Yup. Thats where I bought my 1st one from. Does hannes repair batteries too?
  21. it must have been a hard 5 weeks for him.
  22. I've had a 1200 lumen 10w light that came with a battery pack (8.4V / 4400mAh), but damaged the light (battery was fine) - i bought it about 18 months ago. A mate of mine organized another light + battery, but it took a few months before I got it - during this time, the light+battery was left in his car boot. When I got the light, after charging the battery fully, it fails to hold charge - I get light for maybe 10 minutes max before the battery dies. The last time my mate used the light+battery, he got full charge out of it (a couple of hours). So I ended up using my old battery pack with the new light. I used it in December at the VG 24 hour and got normal life out of the battery. Last night, on my ride home, the battery died after about 40 minutes on the 2nd brightest setting (usually get 2 hours). I didn't use my regular charger on my old battery pack yesterday. What could the cause of the dying batteries be? The first one I thought might be damaged due to excessive heat exposure in the boot - would this kill a battery? Has anyone else found a sudden drop in battery life after a number of months? Or could it be the voltage / amperage output of the charger that just didn't charge the light yesterday? What should I look out for? Lastly, is there anything I can do to make the batteries last long enough for a decent night ride without failing? I used to get laptop batteries repacked years ago, but not sure if they can do the same with these packs, and don't know any contacts offhand (recommendations welcome)
  23. ^ fixed. Like Brian said - depends on where and how you're riding. Maybe try speak to some bike shops about giving a 27.5 / 29 a spin on the trail and see what works better for you. I know Linden cycles used to offer this, not sure if they still do and if they have a 27.5 available
  24. He would have had to pump twice as much on a 26er. </troll>
  25. I think the idea of the video was to illustrate how a larger wheelbase affects rolling over obstacles, and not trying to depict a real scenario. Would be interesting to see a similarly over-simplified animation of how a 26er handles tight winding single track vs a 29er
