  1. Give this a read http://www.bikejames.com/strength/the-flat-pedal-revolution-manifesto-how-to-improve-your-riding-with-flat-pedals/ It's great to know how to ride with cleats, but if you don't enjoy it, then don't. One of the things that stuck out for me was: "You ride better with flat pedals, you ride faster with cleats" Pedals + cleats and riding shoes is all you need. I just got a pair of Scott mtb shoes (had Bontrager previously) and both were very lekker, with Shimano SPD (something like the PD-m780) pedals. These are clipless-only, very difficult to ride without cleats as they'll roll, but some of the Look or Candy work well with clipless or as flats. Make sure your pedals are set to unclip as easily as possible. You are gonna fall, regardless. Get ready for it.
  2. Depends on which races. Many organizers use SASeeding (www.saseeding.co.za) for grouping, so head on over there and see if you can find your details there, and then speak to the organizers of a specific race to find out how the grouping is done. saseeding works on your 3 best results for grouping.
  3. I'm sure he will soon.
  4. There's a shortage of them.
  5. does it come in 29er?
  6. at least you have some confidence that if you left it outside on the pavement in the CBD, you would still find it there 4 days later.
  7. I'm doing my first triathlon in 3 weeks, and figured I'd order an Orca trisuit. Pricing on Fluidlines was a lot more competitive than in-store pricing (e.g. Sportsmans Warehouse - almost 50% of the cost). Placed my first order with them Monday 5pm. Received the order now, 9am (cpt to jhb) Before placing the order, Bernard was helpful & responsive on pre-sale queries. Now it's just me that needs to get fit enough for xterra Thanks for the great service. http://www.fluidlines.co.za for their main online catalogue, and http://shop.fluidlines.co.za for clearance items (seen xs / s trisuits for under R500 there)
  8. sort of sounds like apple patenting the rounded square rectangle shape of an ipad (Patent No. D670,286)
  9. I've just started running (trail), and after 5 runs of between 6km and 10km in the last 2 weeks, I am starting to get ITB pain in my left knee (which is my dominant leg / knee). woke up at about 3am this morning with pain in my right hip, which seems to also be a symptom after some googling. I'm currently running on dirt roads / jeep track, nothing hectic, but i haven't run for years. What is a "proper resting period" ? I'm aiming to be able to manage a 12km technical trail run in 3 weeks, can currently manage 6. Does this sound too ambitious, or should it be easily do-able? What's the best way to rule out shoes vs. initial over-training as the cause? I bought a cheapish pair of power running shoes to see how I find trail running - similar to these - and don't want to spend too much more until I know whether i'll continue running. What stretches work best for other hubbers that have had ITB problems?
  10. i bought the 1200 lumen from extremelights (who advertise on the classifieds here) for R700 and have been happy with it. I used to attach it to my helmet and had a Lezyne handlebar mounted one, but after loosing that, i find just the bar-mounted 1200 is more than enough.

Does anyone swim with an Edge 500? Apparently it's got an "ipx7" water resistance rating, and on some other forums have had successful submersion tests with it - ipx7 is apparently meant to be safe for up to 1m. re fluidlines - I couldn't find the shoes on their site, and you were spot on regarding the sizes - mostly small available.

The ride will be fine I'm sure. Managed a 70km Monster in 5 hours or so last year, so 26km in the same area should be manageable. And the swim is probably similar to Midmar, but less crowded so that shouldn't be too bad either. Yoh. I nearly died at 25 degs yesterday morning, on a smooth / flat 6km run 4 training sessions so far, and 1 of my knees is already starting to complain. gonna have to suck it up and htfu to get through it. I wonder if I could do the swim in my riding lycra...
  14. Who is in for this one? I've entered the full, it's my first tri. Any advice on training / gear? I've found 2 archived threads that suggest a minimum of 3 training sessions of each discipline. want to get a long legged tri suit and ditch it after the swim, would that be possible? Also, what about mid-event nutrition - load up on sugar / carbs during the ride? Does this rule mean that 650b's are not allowed? - All bikes must have 26” or 29” wheels. Can't wait for it!
  15. so like joberg2c without the organizers. Would love to do that if there's an mtb route for it.
  16. +1 on the spruit to start. The river route at VG ain't too bad either, though not as flat.
