This is just unacceptable. Race organisers really need to start taking responsibility for route safety..... ESPECIALLY at national champs. I place the blame squarely on CSA's shoulders here.

Thing is, last time I checked, the anti doping rules apply to joe soaps and pro's alike. Which means its all of our jobs to know whats on the banned substance list when competing in CSA sanctioned events. The rules apply to everyone, regardless of ability or where they finish in the field. I'm just tired of the level of hypocrisy in cycling and amongst cycling commentators / fans. We know there is loads of doping going on in professional cycling (or at least we should), yet we worship superhuman performers..... until they get caught. Then and ONLY then, does the lynch mob come out to play..... This allows the UCI to occasionally hang out a scapegoat to dry and divert the public's attention away from the fact that most of the peleton are doping in one form or another. And on hypocrisy, given that rules are rules - perhaps joe soaps should give some careful consideration to whats floating around in their bloodstreams whilst racing - because back marker or not, competing with a banned substance in your system makes you no better than Yolande, Rourke, Evans etc etc. Glass houses.

Given the "non performance enhancing" characteristics of this drug, and the extent of drugs that doctors freely prescribe for various ailments, I wonder how many average joe hubbers (also part of the lynch mob) take part in races whilst having banned substances floating around in their bloodstreams - unbeknowns to them?..... Nurofens, asthma pumps without TUE's.... etc etc etc etc.

Hmmm, in this instance there is a smoking gun and a dead guy..... based on the evidence it is difficult to come to any other conclusion than guilty. But yes, perhaps there were some strange and unusual mitigating circumstances that saw him have a needle and syringe in his person on the eve of his best ever world cup performance....

Road out to Fouriesburg is quite decent - nice wide shoulder. Its an out and back route. Then there's the Golden Gate park for some proper climbing and wind training.... you can cycle out there from Clarens, its about 30kms there. One or two loops of Golden Gate and back will give you 80-100kms. There are also MTB trails in and around Clarens (ride out the back of town and follow the trails up to water tower). Also if you want something longer, ride out of Clarens on MTB towards bethlehem and just after the top of the climb turn right onto a dirt road that has a wooden sign that says "Toeka" - Ride it for plus minus 15-20 kms and and take a right turn. T junction right again and follow that road - it will eventually come out on the other side of the Golden Gate park. Enjoy

My bad - looked at one of the stage results instead of GC - still, a podium spot that someone else deserved. Looking at current results vs winning pro times my opinion is that Vets are not tested enough. Period. No finger pointing, but if you do the math, something doesn't add up.

Raced against Joe at Clover Tour - he came 2nd overall in Vets. Glad to see they finally testing the vets.

Route is disappointing. Definitely a change for the worse. Hope organisers are listening.

Very sad - very good rider too, so unnecessary. Raced with him a couple of times. Neck on neck at sabie this year. Hopeful that justice will be served. RIP
