  1. I also suffer from numb fingers and have been following all the advice on this thread - with limited success I might add. Even on short 20km rides I am getting sore. Last Wed I had my bike set up by Jason of Leighs cycles in Durban. He immediately picked up that I was riding with straight arms and said this would lead to sore hands and sore shoulders!! I rode 80km on Sat and 40km on Sunday with my arms bent like a pro - hey presto - no more sore hands!!!! Although I must say my neck is stiff
  2. Still got no answers??? I would say to justify CSA's existence - what else do they do? Wobbles2009-03-31 02:32:52
  3. Thanks Naas. I have signed up with SA Training Bible and ordered the book! I am feeling pretty flat after that dreadful Argus and need something to re-vitalise me!! You hit the needle on the head when you say "..don't listen to other advice.." I have been trying to follow a program but the group I ride in have their own so called programs which basically means starting slowly and going hell for leather up the gradients to prove how strong we are!!
  4. Many thanks chaps. I will start with a LBS. If no luck will move on to a biokineticist. Interesting about the saddle Roders. I felt that my fisik was too wide and bought a Sella. It felt much better but could not get the height right and developed knee pains. I went back to the Fisik and the knee problems went away. I think I will try the sella again. thanks.
  5. [quote name=porky - its just symptomatic of the "stuff you" attitude prevalent in SA in all walks of life - its sad' date=' but get used to it. [/quote] NO this is defeatist !!! ...... lpeens is doing the right thing by bringing the groups unacceptable behaviour to their attention! I had a similar incident with my group a while back and I subsequently made my feelings very clear. Last week I punctured and several riders stopped to help!!
  6. Listen to your piers' date=' MTB is king. And it's alot safer.[/quote'] I beg to differ. One suffers many many more falls in MTB than road. I tried MTB and fell 4 times in my first race and 2 in my second - none of them were my own fault On the road I have only had 1 fall in 2,5 years!!! Last year on a training ride on a MTB, I went over the handlebars and broke both hands and wore a neck brace for 3 months. Since then I have heard so many horrific MTB stories. Folks - MTB is DANGEROUS!! Stick to the road.
  7. I prefer the term - "ponce".
  8. I quite like "ponce' - has a nice ring to it!!
  9. Send him my condolences please. Not sure if it is the lad from PMB who I met for the first time at supper on Friday night in Seapoint? I know he had an accident towards the end of his ride. He is a very pleasand youngster.
  10. I have been cycling for 2,5 years. I average 150km a week and raise this to 220km when a race approaches. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I had a Fuji Team Pro and completed several races with no problems. I ?upgraded? to a Cervelo R3 and have done 2 races on it. It took a long time to setup as I have a problem high up on my inner hamstrings as they ache if I don?t get the set up just right Training rides have been going well but the two races have been disastrous. In the Amashova last year I started cramping badly at 70km on the inside of my front thighs where they go into the knee joint. My left thigh was worse and I could not stand the last 35km. I put this down to lack of training. Since then my training has been going well and I was looking forward to a good ride at the Argus on Sunday. Alas, both quads got very sore again after about 60km, in the same place although they did not cramp. A lot of people say that my posture does not look right on the R3 in that I am too upright. Could this be the problem?
  11. Irresponsible and gives Barloworld a bad image. Wobbles2009-03-05 08:02:24
  12. Just a heads up guys as we do tend to forget about this. I ferry my bikes around KZN without any cops stopping me. however, on the way to Argus last year I was stopped THREE times by over zealous cops who were visibly disappointed to see that I had affixed another number plate on my bike!! They did not check anything else!!!!!! Makes you think does it not?
  13. What!! - I never said I drink wine and drive!! Or do you mean dining?
  14. Just a reminder to all cyclists transporting their bikes by car to ensure that your licence plate is not obscured by your bike. This is the one time of the year that the ever alert cops come out of the bushes and pounce on unsuspecting motorists with a hefty fine. It is great knowing that we have such vigilant traffic cops who, although ignoring the taxis breaking 27 rules of the road in front of them, ensure that our roads are safe by fining cyclists who are causing a great danger to other road users by having their number platers obscured!!.
  15. Most replies are missing a salient point here in that a rider with no lights can jeopardise the safety of others. She mentions that they were "blocking her light". Scenario - a car comes from behind and ploughs into all 3 of them as the driver does not see any lights. Another scenario - driver swerves late to avoid idiots without lights, crashes into a tree or a group of riders coming the other way with lights on. It is extremely dangerous and extremely foolish to ride without lights as it affects the safety of others. I think it is our duty to inform all idiots on the roads of this fact. Speak up!!!!!!!!!
  16. Sure - it is great for bacon and eggs.
