  1. The new Disco plan has claimed it's first victim. My OH was really enjoying her Apple watch and as her work is very time consuming was enjoying the step measuring process, and lost a whole lot of weight and inches. But more importantly, was having fun, hiking and doing things she wasn't doing before. Well, after trying hard this week, and having a very stressful week, she only managed 100pts on one day while doing at least 7500 steps on the other days, and getting nothing. She now owes money and is thoroughly and totally downcast, as the next month or two are going to be hectic with a new job. She will not run or cycle. She has just gone passed the gym to swipe her card for doing nothing. And if it goes up to more than 500, in the short term, she will probably owe more money, which is a stress at the moment. Well done, Disco, you have totally alienated precisely the kind of person you were targeting with your program. And those of us who do train, are purposefully reducing our rides, while the cheaters who swipe their card and do nothing are still doing it. Your sliding scale of points is rubbish in it's current form.
  2. Can't shortening rides knowingly get you excommunicated from the Savages??
  3. But that's the point, he is clearly a mythical beast. Probably rides a Yeti. He's everywhere on Strava but noone knows who he his. #ordothey
  4. That's what does my nut. I tell my own folk to relax and chill in the pool. It's actually hilarious - he tells me the same things that I tell others. But I shall conquer or conk out - or put another way, if I'm going Roman, I'm going Caligula (Or I shall stick to Disco points collecting instead of KOM's)
  5. You see there's the difference right there... You okes have a jol.i have bruised palms from the clenching. He came down over the table top at the bottom of Conties and cleared it. No pads, nothing. Just for a lark. Even my female friend on the class said 'that looked like fun'. I stuck a stick in her spokes.
  6. My guru, Julien, who I think has never met anyone as tense on the bike for even the mildest corner, has far more of a challenge to improve my speed through technique and Zen than you do if the training pays off. He did things on an uphill the other which were just stupid, and I thought I was reasonable strong going up.
  7. RE the way down: E(p) = mgh. So to reach you full potential you need m, it's called 'Gravity' by definition, and the height is based purely on the size of your ballistics. If that is not a scientific proof, I don't know what is so emphasis on 'm' for the Maniacs. Ps: isn't 'Tabata' just Mesopotamian for 'interval'? Cos my own Thorbata seems similar. Just weaker. And for no points.
  8. 1000W for 20s is beastly! And here I thought the Padded Maniacs trained exclusively beer, buns and boerewors?
  9. Who or what is Die Muishond? Is he like the Stig? Seems to be on top or near the top of most of the hard segments out my way.
  10. You guys and those pesky Iron-persons... If you had gone balls to the wall for 30mins at 80% during the race like Disco wants you to... #justsaying
  11. Yup, after first moaning that the new system was crap, and then thinking it would all work out fine, this morning I decided to do no more, no less. Was giving it horns up and down the hills and because my heart rate is naturally quite low, I got 100 pts. Can't be assed to upload more if the weighting system is so biased towards the 80% thing. I need a few rest days now so no points. Pity they think I won't be contributing to my health & fitness. Hope their 'data mining' gets updated.
  12. Yes, I meant the complaint would only arise when they could not get more than 700 pts in 7 days from gym
  13. I bitched and moaned about having to wear my heart rate monitor, which I still hate, but after 1 ride I got 1500 points. I reckon the only people now who should have a beef are those who have never gone to gym and who now need to purchase a HR monitor, or those who go to gym and who's weekly points have risen to more than 700. Otherwise the solution seems really easy. I hereby retract my objections, m'lady
  14. The 60km was extremely sandy a few years ago but 40km was quite fun last year (except for the thorns!!!) . Just worried about sand with the lack of rain.
  15. Nicola took the Strava KOM up Dorstberg on a training ride. THAT'S more important than UCI XC doping. Oops, wrong thread... Sorry
  16. To be fair, I was just trying to make my butt look slimmer in stripes...
  17. Jissis, all the anger for crap that doesn't matter (except for the numpties messing up my favourite Hoogekraal downhill) On a happy note, my friend who was previously cash-disenfrachised by a certain UCI accredited coach finished her first epic. So not all is doom and gloom.
  18. I am in error about the max heart rate calc so I humbly withdraw that utterly pointless point and also about last year's fitness calc, (thanks, Myles) although I am now confused as in late Dec I was scrambling around trying to find points for my platinum and had to get for a whole lotta tests to find 15000 points and I had maxed out fitness. Oh well. Regards HR: I used HR for 4-6 hours a day in my youth, and I just hate wearing the chest strap. And I don't want any fancy watch. I measure my performance as a function of average speed and sometimes just purely by feel. If I do stop to take my pulse while doing spinning intervals I know almost to within 5 bpm what my rate is. (And my 80% of max has always been 170 in my head from the years of training - hence my cock up, and the visions of drooling.) I never synced my Garmin previously, just used Strava to link to Disco- hence my irritation at now having to. I rarely actually use my lap top for much these days, so it's just a schlep. Like I said much earlier in the thread, I personally have no problem making points if I need them. I'll just do a race or two. And I have no problem with Disco on the whole. I just find it irritating - call it a pet peeve. I am actually on the other side of the argument to the Apple watch complainers - I just like simple things.
  19. That is (and, Sir Mayhem, please correct me if I am wrong) what happened last year, when Disco dropped the maximum fitness points to 15,000, making it difficult to get to Gold or keep my platinum without all the tests. They corrected it this year, thereby admitting their error, but could easily have done it half way through the year. Rather like the exact opposite of this debacle. (I don't want an Apple watch, and my irritation is purely the hassle of needing to wear a HR monitor, and connecting my 500 to my laptop (for now, still need to check out a solution posed here for that). My resting HR is 38/9, too, so getting anyway near my 'max heart rate' involves drooling, convulsions and catatonia. Which doesn't make my girlfriend find me attractive. And definitely doesn't make me feel like a smoothie.)
  20. But even Discovery knows that's just a warm-up for the Savages?? Everything's relative...
  21. My limited project experience with the IT guys would let me guess that the development would be paid for by Disco. Still, if they are serious about getting a cheap, free way of managing the average Joe customer fitness (insert suspicious chortle here) it would probably be the most simple solution for a vast number of Disco clients, as I honestly don't think including a validation field is that hard. Not as hard as say, showing segments on a map of every ride.
  22. Had same issue on my phone. Did it on my laptop and worked first time. Still haven't uploaded anything yet though
