  1. hey Cassie, Yeah - I have been chatting to some of the guys here at work that have 29er HT's and all say that the bigger wheels glide over small roots n branches etc, but that if I learn to bunny-hop a 29er it will never be a bad thing hehe (I cracked the wrist on 1 of the spactacular dismounts at Majik Forest....classic "head-over-handlebars-feet-over head" type scenario....I put the laft arm out to "break" my fall (and face for that matter) but ended up cracking it big time) Will see if I have the heart to do some mtb'ing soon as I am nervous that I will fall and once again crack the wrist. Thanks for the advise
  2. Hey AMC, thanks. Yeah I was wondering about the switchback scenario's. I am good going down on the switchback but going up for me was always a bit more challenging and only recently (before cracking the wrist) got it correct on the HT and now it seems like I'll need to learn all over again
  3. Thanks. I had a GT Avalanche Pro 26er HT and now have a GIANT Anthem X 29er dually and that Rock Shocx Monarche is apparently very forgiving so am looking very forward to give it a go.
  4. SO, I recently bought a 29er dually, but have not had the time / opportunity to ride it yet as my left arm recently came out of a cast for 6 weeks and the wrist is still a bit swollen, but I wanted to ask the hubbers out there for some advise on going from a 26er HT to a 29er dual-sus ? Major difference in riding style ? Or just stight modifications / adjustments ? I have bbeen for a bike setup on the 29er so I'm ready to ride. Thanks guys
  5. I think I was something like 5min before the cut-off time in 2011 (Remember that 1 ?...killer hot!) All my mates were waiting 2+ hours for me at the end . Had a nice braai that eve and made it great times with my mates. THIS year I finally joined a gym (ahhh the edge my mates were telling me about) and have been putting in some spinning sessions. Bought a 29er dually (only 12kg's) and have learnt how to eat correctly on 3+ hour rides (the major mistake I made in 2011 was I didnt feul-up correctly) SO - with all that in the back of my mind I hope and pray that the 2013 K2C is gonna be awesome times....with the same 'ol friends all over again except this year I would like to finish in at around the 5:30 mark and not the 7:30 mark.
  6. Yeah , the fiancé breathed in 2, choked, fell off her bike, coughed them out , got back on her bike.....and then I don't think it's appropriate to say what else she said / came out of her mouth at this point LOL
  7. Jonkerhoek has way more choice (and less flies). Went cycling there (Hoogekraal) at 9am a few days ago and WOW the amount of flies while u cycling up is rediculous - obviously going downhill the little critters cant keep up
  8. Am about to test that service 2 Jan 2013 when I return the fiancé's Christmas gift that ain't workin so great. I have great expectations now
  9. It might sound stange , but try using Vicks Vapo Rub on the bite itself - relieves the itchyness
  10. Not to worry about my entry....as luck would have it the guys at work are getting a team together to ride for 1 of the charities so I'll be gettin my entry after all

The 8hrs that he helped everyone he could including a 45min stop to change "someone's" back tire ? lol Dont forget the USN Cramp Stop pills which I ran out of thanks to too many guys not brining any ! Guys, this race is no joke - it's hot as hell out there and YOU WILL cramp up That being said I had a jol with 'ol Covie last year. Good 1 mate. Sorry I'm not making this year gettin married n all you know.
  15. Yes, start training hills mate as when your at the 75Km mark with not much left guess what......yet another steady 10km incline to look forward to. I needed another pair of legs and eneded up walking. Yes, I know, I walked. I just had nothing left. Finally reached the top and glided the last 5k's down. Other than that it sounds like your fairly fit 'n ready. Remeber, the climbs aren't steep they're relatively easy climbs so your brain goes "ahh, no probs this is an easy 1" but in reality the climbs are loooooong 'n steady which ended up killing my stamina and legs. Enjoy. I'm not cycling it this year (getting married) but will next year. oh, remeber to start tapering off ur training inthe last 2 weeks before.Good luck

Please feel free to draw your own conclusions.

  18. I learnt a lot on my 1st K2C and a few are listed below (use or don't use, up to u) 1) Don't carry Pronutro bars in ur Camelbak......they will melt (I'm sure it's fine on a training ride though) 2) Don't carry Jungle Oats bars in ur Camelbak......they will melt (I'm sure it's fine on a training ride though) 3) Do carry something that won't melt.....I find Nougat and PnP rolled dried fruit works well (doesn't melt) 4) USN Energy Pro Bars taste nice (usually pop 1 of these just before the start of a race....I'm using 32GI and it's a lowGI bar so no wories) Anyway, there you go - "food for thought" ?

  24. Covie, ur reffering to MDW's comment on the first page of the following forum : https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/81269-using-32gi-with-gu/page__hl__32gi__fromsearch__1
  25. From the 32GI website : Can I take in gels while using 32Gi™ Low GI Endurance Energy Drink? At all costs you want to prevent spiking by taking in a high GI product such as a gel. If done it will result in short lived energy supply, thereafter necessitating frequent gel top ups . It is highly recommended to delay the take in of any high GI substances for as long as possible in order to benefit from long lasting energy supply. This includes anything along the route such as coke, jelly beans etc. If you were going to take a high GI substance it would be recommended to take it in right towards the end of the event.
