  1. Hmmm. Yes it is different and relatively new. Thanks for pointing out my error. It's quite ambiguous though. If your sole reason is to come look for work (as with most people) then this visa is still not right as it clearly says your primary purpose must be to visit. Like my first post said, its a risk and one that should be considered.
  2. I've been thinking more about this. I am not refuting the stats at all - I simply don't know enough about them to have a valid and educated opinion. When I cleaned crime scenes and was surrounded by death and peoples misdeeds, I became convinced that the world was only about that. It became all consuming as it was all around me and I never had the other side of the coin to balance that viewpoint with. Perhaps, given your sisters environment, that she might be suffering from the same issue? I imagine working in a prison and being surrounded by lawlessness and crime (a lot of which is drug related) that would skew your world view (or in this case your NZ View) to feel like that was the prevalence of society. On the other hand Darren (Naas Botha Joke) I live a sheltered professional life where I work with CEO level people and travel to nice places and stay in a good area, so my NZ view is skewed towards that side of the scale. I guess the actual reality lies in the middle and both your sisters view and mine are potentially not accurate? I am not arguing, but rather being a little philosophical about things. Are there any SafriKiwis that have experienced any crime/drug related issues? I would hate for people to base life changing decisions on one weirdo from Benoni's opinion of his sheltered existence (referring to me)
  3. honestly speaking it hasn’t affected us at all. We’ve not been a victim of crime nor have we see. Vagrants misbehaving on the roads or parks. I am sure it happens and needs to be addressed, but it’s not something I’ve seen personally.
  4. technically speaking, doing ANYTHING other than tourism on a tourist visa is against the law. So whatever her decision, there are risks. That being said, most people come over on tourist visa to look for work, but it’s calculated risk. EDIT : The above is incorrect - Hayley has pointed out that you can actually attend interviews whilst on a visitor visa.. Keep reading for links. Is there any way she can delay her application to the council?
  5. Hi Guys. I have a kiwi mate looking to get rid of a bike. I have offered to help advertise it here. Forgive me not putting it in the classifieds, but I am sure most of us dont read them given our location. Its a 2015 Giant XTC Advanced 29r Medium frame. Its had a 1x11 XT conversion done and is in very good nick. He has moved to Cyclocross as a sport and this bike is gathering dust. He wants $1,100 for it. Anyone interested?
  6. Sure! The trick is getting a booking. Apparently this year the bookings for huts sold out in less than 15 minutes for the peak period between december and Jan EEK
  7. The hardest part is when travelling/socialising. At home, its pretty easy, but the moment the environment changes it gets a little tricky. Not impossible, but you have to pay attention and be diligent.
  8. HA HA HA - Not sure I would consider this mostly flat... But it looks doable with a fit 11 and 8 year old (ages at time of walk)
  9. Been putting together some hikes. This coming weekend will be taking the kids to Waitawheta Tramway and staying in the camp ground (read small patch of grass) - total cost - $15 for a family of four Valentines day, we will do the Pinnacles. Staying in the hut - total cost for a family of 4 - $60 We are getting the kids fit for tackling two of the Great walks this coming summer. Abel Tasman Coast Track and budget allowing Milford Track ***Note - above prices excludes camping/tramping gear. Totally excited that my kids are finally willing/able to take on these walks. Its been a while since my profile picture was taken and I am itching for adventures. I knew when the kids were born, that hiking/climbing would have to take a little break, but now I am getting excited again about it all - especially that I can share it with the kids. Bought my son his first PROPER hiking pack yesterday - he is pretty chuffed. Got him this. My old pack is a little tired, so I might upgrade in a few weeks. But only once everyone else in the family is happy with their gear. Anyone else into this sort of malarkey? EDIT: English is hard
  10. yeah. They getA LOT of enquires that go nowhere so they charge for the assessment. Others don’t. The agent we used didn’t charge either. We used Sharon Yerman.
  11. not sure to be honest. Walter Stone (the owner) has a pretty good reputation. If you need help with a cv, check a business called lemonade. Recruitment really depends on your field. If you decide to go with eagle, let me know. I’ll shmoooz my mates with beer and dinner to help a hubber out. But...don’t let that influence your decision. It’s a big decision, go with your best bet.
  12. i have a really good friend that works at eagle.
  13. That umami vibe!
  14. Probably a mix of Tomatillo and Jalapeno Quite popular here . Sort of like a cool but spicy salsa
  15. all this talk of supplementation... Been plant based for nearing three years now. Have a blood test done every year (last one was a few weeks ago) and have zero deficiencies. The ONLY thing i do is use a B12 fortified soy milk in my coffee. Thats hardly having to swallow mouthfulls of pills. Sure, its not entirely natural, but neither is the antibiotics and hormones given to livestock. so I am happy to accept that small action.
  16. Id like a try at answering the second one. The theory is that animal agriculture takes up WAY more land than plant agriculture. By reducing livestock land, we get back more veggie land than is necessary and thus the nett effect is more places for wild indigenous animals. There are some theories floating around that the current land allocated for growing plant crops are already sufficient to supply the entire human population with edible plants already . I will try find some good sources (google scholar type stuff) when I am in front of a computer. on a mobile at he moment.
  17. Try see if you can find this brand. https://www.thecrueltyfreeshop.co.nz/vegan-curry-paste
  18. yep agreed. But dual accounts are a bannable offence and moderators should look into that. The actions of one, do not condone the actions of the others. Share ideas. Debate the science. Play the ball not the man. But actively suggesting the thread gets deleted because you like meat is silly. Edit. Last two paragraphs not directed at you personally Patch just in general.
  19. Come on folks, rather than vegan bash with flippant remarks look to learn something from this thread. If you don’t like what you are reading, then make a choice to avoid the thread. Not cool to make belittling remarks and make fun of people just because you don’t agree. Some of us take this thread seriously. Be cool okes.
  20. totally unplanned trip that we had some fun on. Lets just say, my domestic travel budget for the first few months is non existant. Had a jol though. 10/10 - would do again.
  21. any hikers around? Need some advice on family friendly overnight hikes. North island because i spent all my money in Brisbane
  22. probably the reflection from the red Toyota sign. (He says hopefully)[emoji23]
  23. dont think I’ve ever been called a ginger before. More bald than ginger. Lol.
  24. Tomorrow looks like a good weather day. I want to take the kids mountain biking. Thinking about riding in Hunua. My son will be on a 24inch and my daughter on a little trailer bike. So it can’t be super challenging. Ideally a mix of gravel road and a sprinkling of single track. I know DawieO rides there quite a bit. So I am looking for a few tips on some family friendly trails? I want to get in somewhere between 15-20km of trails. Is it super hilly?
