  1. Probably a wise decision, but I imagine it was a tough one.
  2. Hayley. I want you to read Interns post above that I have snipped slightly. I have offered many times to help and babysit. Whatever you need. Even if it’s take L for a walk while you do some chores or anything. I don’t want to be pushy, but I expect you to take me up on the offer that has no expiry date. All you need to do is text me and Nita and I will make a plan. For the record we understand how you feel. We had ZERO support network on SA when our kids were born and we get it.
  3. Been vegetarian for over a year now. At home we eat strictly vegan but occasionally when eating out we will have a little dairy or so on. It’s a little harder travelling with kids. Each to his own. We have a heap of friends that are omnivores and I will happily go out and eat with them. They are respectful of our choice and we are of theirs. Some of them are intrigued by our choices and ask us questions others simply don’t. From a health perspective I feel absolutely great. I am in the best shape of my life and I attribute 75% of that to diet. We have even started growing our own veg (more a project for the kiddies) using a vegepod. I am not a fan of hunting on a personal level. It’s never really been a thing for me. But I also believe in not being a preachy vegan so much so that most of my work colleagues and some friends still don’t even know. Why should I tell them, I don’t give a damn what they eat.
  4. If I could pick anywhere in Nz to live other than Auckland (which I really like) it would be Nelson.
  5. if you come back you better come stay in the east or I will be grumpy.
  6. We pay $780 a week for a four bedroom in a great neighbourhood. 200 metres from two different beaches with great schools.
  7. yeah. I was thinking of changing to the 12km but I think even that is risky.
  8. I am supposed to run a 21km Auckland Half Marathon this coming Sunday. I have been off ill for three weeks and only finish my antibiotics this Wednesday. I tried to go for a leisurely 5km test run today to feel things out and suffered terribly. Heart rate hit 188bpm which is VERY high for me. I struggled the whole way with the silly little distance. I felt unbelievably slow and heavy. Don’t think I am going to make this Sunday’s half. If anyone wants to take a free entry, hit me up. [emoji20]
  9. Both properties we stayed in had high water temps and this was not an issue. Although one was a geyser the other continuous natural gas heated. Wait, can’t say “geyser” anymore as it means something else here.
  10. I am actively recruiting for a few roles at work and my ceo has banned me from hiring out of country South Africans but is actively pushing me to find in country ones. Out of country is a challenge and so much can go wrong that most (not all) employers are very wary of hiring people not in the country.
  11. Wifey lined up two interviews and flew out with her bags. She was offered both jobs. We had already gotten 95% of the way with documentation and had letters from licensed advisors telling prospective employers that all that was needed was an offer of employment She never returned to RSA
  12. the apples are amazing. [emoji13]
  13. good points BUT....... Auckland is nicer.
  14. I have spent the week in Sydney. Auckland is way nicer. [emoji57]
  15. Been trying for weeks to close an old unused FNB credit card. It has a positive balance but I no longer need it. What a mission. Have been on hold and passed around for an hour, only to be disconnected. Screw them...I have sent enough correspondence. Let it just run for years and years. I no longer care.
  16. Some bad.... Took the kids to see a Kiwi breeding programme in Rotorua. Parked in the parking lot. Some lowlife asshole bumped my car and left. No card or note. Looks like I am going to have to pay the excess and get it sorted.
  17. Redwoods forest in Rotorua New Zealand.
  18. Had enough of Auckland rain and jumped in the car to take the family to Redwoods forest for a weekend of riding. My boy is starting to get his confidence on the trails now so I am hoping to do some miles with him this summer. Also spent some time teaching the kids about trail maps.
  19. did you use an agency to do yours? Mrs Potgieter took 3 months. Mine took 5.
  20. i use a company called Rand Reunite. They are brilliant and can be done from this side. Cheaper than cash cows (now finglobal) If you financially migrate you are no longer a SA tax citizen. You lose all bank accounts and tax number.
  21. H....Jacinda beat you. Where is that baby??? We want to meet her.
  22. my word but this country is beautiful.
