  1. So far this winter has been pretty amazing.
  2. Advice please. I have a Breville Oracle Coffee Machine. Lately the portafilter basket is getting stuck in the group head. When I release the portafilter, the basket stays inside the grouphead and the handle comes out. I cant see any signs of damage and I am being particularly careful to not tighten it too much. Is there something wrong with the portafilter retaining ring?
  3. next time pull the tooth and get a bike. [emoji23]
  4. One of the major downsides of NZ is the price of dental work. Wife broke a tooth a few weeks ago and that was almost $1000 She is in Tahiti at the moment and broke another tooth..... She gets back tomorrow afternoon and then its off to the dentist again on friday... On a side note, maybe I should become a dentist???
  5. I agree. Been down a few times for work and it seems like a really nice place.
  6. Yep. So adding in the 50 points for offer of employment puts him at 165. If he takes offer of employment outside auckland its an additional 10 points.

  14. I too am no labour fan...but one cannot argue with $12,000 worth of free tuition.
  15. One of the things I love the most about living in NZ is the sense of community. Last night there was a pretty bad storm that hit Auckland. Fierce winds that knocked over trees and sent trampolines into the air. Many houses this morning have no power due to the storm. This morning I wake up to find the Auckland Council representative responsible for tree and garden maintenance, has shared her personal mobile and email details all over our social media to get people to let her know where the problems are so that she can get the council teams to sort it out quickly. While that was going on, our local buy/sell Facebook groups were filling up with posts of people offering hot cups of coffee and a hot shower to anyone without electricity. Not only offering friends, but complete strangers. Inviting people to their homes to charge mobile devices and just have a good chat over a hot beverage. These are some of the reasons I am grateful to live in a place where the person in the street is your friend and not your enemy.
  16. Happy birthday to two Hubbers on this thread! Nolan and Hayley. May the coming year be everything you dream of and more!

  18. So I can finally contribute to this thread. I normally run little 5 k runs around the neighbourhood. Maybe once a week. Always just under 30 minutes. About a month ago I signed up to a new gym in the area called F45. It’s a mix of HIIT/functional training/group classes. I have been pushing myself pretty hard there. Decided to go for a run this morning and at 5kms my legs came alive. It felt like I was running on clouds. I decided to push on. At 10kms I messaged the wife and told her I was still running. Legs felt amazing. At several points in the run I actually laughed. I could not believe how good my legs were feeling. I carried on. At 18km I started to slow down. I was no longer able to hold a sub 6min/km pace and it started creeping up. Legs felt heavier and heavier. At 20km I changed direction towards the house and finished on exactly 21km for a total time of 2:04:27 I am pretty proud of myself. I have never run that far or fast in my life. My base fitness has improved so much. Calories burned 1519. I used to think running was for poor people who could not afford a bicycle, but today was really fun.
  19. first of all Well Done!!! Cheapest way to ship smallish stuff via airfreight was www.ubag.co.za Check what the price is to replace the stuff here. Then compare to what you would get second hand plus shipping costs and whichever is cheapest, that’s the way to go. Bare in mind possible clearance charges here and costs to have stuff cleaned (if needed) also, any electronics will need to be replugged. As for car finance, we got finance on our first car in 15 minutes. All we showed them was our work visa and work contract. Wife had a five year visa so she had no issues. I believe if you only have a two year, then your finance period must be less that our visa term. Perhaps check out rather buying a cheap Japanese import for a year or two cash. Might be a better option? Relax. Things have a way of working out. Remind me, which area will you be based in?
  20. Yeah its crazy. November will be the start of my fourth year here. I arrived end October 2015.
  21. On the residency side of things... On the 16th May we will have had residency for two years. Our travel restriction kicks in. Basically, we cannot re enter NZ if we leave without either getting PR or extending our travel condition. Now here is where it gets interesting, Wifey recently did really well at work and at a conference in OZ she was awarded a trophy and a prize...an all expenses paid trip to Tahiti to attend a conference and have some fun. The departure date for the trip is 17 May. So she went to go see immigration to find out her options. The helpful chap reckons if she comes to the express counter on the 16th with enough supporting documents, they will fast track our entire families PR application and will grant PR in 1 hour! I don't get to go with to Tahiti though...that kinda sucks.
  22. Yep, Cryptos over the last ten days have been an absolute bloodbath. Entire markets are reeling. Not just Crypto but financial markets as well. Sure, Crypto taking the biggest hits. Feel terrible for people that invest what they cant afford to lose.
  23. 6 bracelets on each arm...she is definitely "balancing" them well.
