  1. if a Viking weekend is happening I’m keen to invite myself to this. Rather unashamedly. Could be a good weekend!
  2. Rotorua is made up of a couple of biking areas. Skyline is where the downhill tracks are that you use the gondola for. Then Redwoods is the big ass forest just next to it with 150km+ of free trails. Both are Epic and make for an amazing couple of days riding.
  3. I started the original Vasectomy thread a few years back. Technically, ive been admitted for two vasectomies, but they forgot about me the first time round and by 4pm i was so hungry i just walked out of the hospital. Then we had a pregnancy scare and I went back for the procedure. I had a few complications that meant that I was bed bound and could not walk for a week or two. Basically a mixup of my prescription. Instead of 4 tramacets and 4 anti inflammatories a day, I was told to take 8 tramacets. So i was totally high, but totally swollen. Was not fun. That being said, its really great to not have to worry about another little one. More money for bikes.
  4. On the subject of running shoes... I have been struggling. I used to run in the Asics Dynaflyte a few years ago and really enjoyed them. After I ran them broken, I replaced them with the Kayano 25s' They sucked. The heel foam around the achilles collapsed a week into owning them. Asics replaced them and the same thing happened to the second pair so they became gardening shoes. I then decided to switch to NB. I bought the Fresh Foam Zante's and fell on wet surfaces twice. The sole has ZERO grip in the wet. I wrote a review on New Balances website (I use reviews a lot when purchasing) however NB kept removing the review. So I complained and they refunded me for the shoes. I then went back to the Asics Dynaflyte's (however the current version) but they have changed the sole and its really hard. I have done over 100km in them but still cant get used to them. So they are also gardening shoes (I have a really nice gardening shoe collection) In desperation, I did something really weird. I bought the Nike Vaporfly 4% shoes. Yes the fancy expensive ones. These are special order from Nike head office. The first shipment got lost in the courier network and eventually returned to NIKE but they sent me a new pair. THEY ARE AMAZING. I hate to admit it but they are worth every penny. So much so, that after my Strava times started dropping like mad, my wife ran in my shoes and bought a pair the same day. She does not buy shoes often and is super critical and resistent to change so this is quite something. They are really that good. I have one criticism and that is that the sole is pretty soft and I dont think it will last as long as a normal pair of shoes, but I see now that the regular Vaporfly has the same carbon fibre plate in them as the 4% but a harder wearing foam sole. I might get those for training runs and then use the 4% for special occasions like weddings and races. The shoe forces you on to the front foot and it gives you a weird springing forward like feel. Its hard to explain, but it feels like its pushing you forward. My butt muscles hurt a little after the first few runs as I was using a different set of muscles, but man the runs felt so good. Smooth and quick. I just wish they werent so expensive.
  5. One of our local burger chains is serving up Hungry Planet burgers. Had one for dinner last night. Flavour wise and texture wise it was like eating any normal beef based burger. My kids and I struggled to finish them. The mouthfeel was too realistic and it creeped us out. I reckon they are amazing if you are transitioning and miss a burger but honestly it was too realistic for us and we struggled mentally with the whole thing. My son eventually took out the patty and just ate a salad bun. Said he was happier that way.
  6. pm me your email address. When I contacted the consulate a while ago it took me a while but I eventually landed on the desk of a very nice lady that was really helpful. She gave me her email address and direct number. More than happy to send it to you and you can call her and see if there are any other options like emergency passports and so on. She is the one that told me 6-12 months.
  7. i highly recommend Henrico from Rand Rescue. Cashcows screwed my stuff up so bad and Henrico sorted it out. If you are keen, let me know and I’ll pm you his number. He was better priced than cashcows too.
  8. I knew there was a reason I liked you. Panerai is one of my favourites. Unfortunately I sold mine when leaving the country. To be fair, it did pay for all of our flights! I do miss that watch. I really like the brown. It suits you. Congraulations Dawie.
  9. Part of the financial migration process requires you to close all accounts. Then all funds are placed into a managed deposit account and once everything is in there like RAs and so on it’s transferred out and closed. If you want to continue having a bank account you need to reapply and meet certain criteria. https://www.fnb.co.za/forex/non-resident/cheque-accounts.html Why would you want to keep an account open?
  10. no. You have to close them all. If you choose to reopen one it’s as a non resident and that’s a mission.
  11. not citizenship but tax status. Financial migration is different from full migration.
  12. R669,000????
  13. no. It’s the Thug Kitchen Series.
  14. Bwaaa haaa haaa. New favourite cookbook. Not for sensitive readers.
  15. I recently moved over to stuff fibre. $99 for 900mbs down. Uncapped. First three months are discounted.
  16. Plus, strictly speaking Veganism has nothing to do with personal health. It has to do with ethics. you get fat vegans. Like any food, too many calories and not enough movement equals fat.
  17. just broadband or also power and or gas?
  18. Tonight’s meal. Corn tortilla with roasted eggplant, kumara(a NZ sweet potato), capsicum, courgette and corn. All spiced with Mexican spices like cumin, paprika etc. Topped off with a fresh salsa (I personally grew this tomatoes and coriander) and a fresh guacamole. Sitting next to it is a special edition bottle of Trinidad scorpion and pineapple hot sauce made by my favourite hot sauce company “Culley’s” Totally vegan and totally yum.
  19. Nita made a Quesadilla yesterday. Roasted and spiced veggies and instead of cheese she used a slow roasted eggplant that she mashed up. So darn good.
  20. MExican is VERY easy to make Vegan. We eat mexican inspired dishes at least three times a week at home. Thai is another good option - just be wary of pastes made using shrimp paste. Most ethical food shops will have vegan pastes. Its worth the investment as a little goes a long way.
  21. On the subject of boats. http://www.affordableboathire.co.nz/ $400 for the day. You book and arrive and the boats in the water and its yours for the day. Great if you only take the boat out a few times a year. Boats here are not cheap.
  22. When we moved over we boarded with a family for a month or so. They are ex RSA and have lived here for 18 years. Have not been further south than Taupo. Thats just crazy,
  23. I did mine in Botany, so we took a ride through East Tamaki and Maraetai/Beachlands. I did the bronze on the wednesday and the restricted on the saturday. Actually went to VTNZ this morning to convert.
