  1. The answer is yes and no. The latter half of the riders don't really know how to ride well in groups and is often every man for himself. Also you get a wide variety of strength of riders which makes it difficult for the groups to ride well together. I want to push myself and see how far I can upgrade. In the Roller Coaster I came 5th in N group, so I am certain I can do even better in a faster group plus it will be good training for the Argus. I can possibly even improve my seeding for next year's number from K to I, which would make a difference. If you consider that there are only 3 races left for the year in which the seeding number is valid, then its probably not the best idea.
  2. This will be my 4th Argus and the first time I start on the harbour side.
  3. This might just be the sadistic side of me, but it is enormously satisfying when you cycle back in the afternoon and traffic is backed up for kms and you fly by the cars in the cycle lane. On the other hand it really sucks when you run out of spare tubes and the last tube completely burst i.e. cannot be patched. Happened on Wednesday when I got a puncture. First puncture Tuesday afternoon, 2nd puncture Wednesday morning and 3rd and last puncture Wednesday afternoon. Eish, not cool. Commuting definitely comes with its ups and downs.
  4. I contacted PPA through their website queries. Received an email from this morning saying that they will have the number ready for me on Sunday. E-man, thanks for the information. The email I got from PPA said nothing about the admin fee. walkerr: it might just be a good idea to call them. I am sure you'll get a quicker response then. BTW, what is you new seeding?
  5. She's a beaut. I can't wait.
  6. You'll get use to it pretty soon. My commute is 18.5km each way. The first time I rode three times a week I felt dead. But you grow stronger quickly. In about a month's time you will see a huge improvement.
  7. Hi everyone. Who has done a seeding upgrade lately. I sent an email to the PPA that I want to upgrade my number at Sunday's race the Tour de Medallion. I know there is a R50 service fee. Must that be paid upfront or do you pay at the event? Edit: Sorry walkerr would have added to your post, but I was on the wrong page when I made my post.
  8. I'll be there, but I'll be starting in K. Just upgraded my number from N. Nervous and excited about starting in K.
  9. I was quite anxious before my first commute. Started last year. Had some not so nice experience, but I love commuting by bicycle. Its by far the best way to travel. Enjoy!
  10. My seeding is up to K from N. Slowly making progress. Now just to decide whether or not to upgrade. Only have one race left before the Argus. hmmmmm....
  11. This will be the last bump on this thread.
  12. That means you have been seeded in U group. See you there
  13. Maybe we can hook up. I start in U and my goal is sub 3:30.
  14. [ Well, since PPA facilitates the events and co-ordinates the timing of events it is surely their choice whether or not they make the information available to non-members or not. If you have a problem with this, become a member and at the AGM raise an item on the agenda to have this altered. PPA could choose the make the results available to non-members at a cost or no cost at their own discretion. Personally I think the cost to joining the PPA is so smal, that it really should be a non-issue.

  16. I don't get why people get upset with the PPA and calling them corrupt. Personally I have only received great benefit from them. The Argus cost R250 for a fantastic event and complete road closure Being a member of PPA cost about R250/year and every race, if you enter early is R70. For that your race is timed, you are seeded and the race is facilitated by them. The cost is really not much for what you get in return. If the PPA makes a profit from the service they provide, good for them. However they don't just stick the money in their pockets, they create huge awareness for cycling and support other cycling related projects. What is so terrible about what the PPA is doing?
  17. bump
  18. Hi guys. I am bumping this thread and may do so a few more times in hope of tracking down the owner. If I can't find him I will just have to keep the goods.
  19. Hi everyone I found a saddle bag on the cycle track between Cape town and Milnerton earlier this afternoon. Please let PM me if you have lost your bag. Provide some evidence by telling me the make of the bag and typically what you had in the bag. We can then arrange for you to get the bag back. Regards Michael
  20. KB1 have you been hired to punt First Ascent goods? In the last 10 minutes you have resurrected 3 dead threads of First Ascent questions. 1 with a single post that was made in May last year.
  21. There's a fine line between bravery and stupidity...
  22. Someone's opening up a can of worms...
  23. I just received an email from the PPA saying the following: "Thank you for reporting this incident to us. We will follow up with the person responsible." I suppose that is as much as we can hope for, for the time being. It would be great if the PPA started to implement some serious penalties for these sorts of actions. Some possible penalties could be: scrap all seeding results or penalise the person by dropping him 5-10 seeding groups. If the person is already in the lower groups, he could be banned from a number of races Repeat offenders could be banned indefinitely.
  24. I think there is an error on Hannes Wessels cycling input. 4110km in a single day is a bit extreme and that in just over 3 hours Wish I had the legs to do that.
  25. Yesterday during the GP Koning Rollercoaster race one of the riders in front of me chucked his gel sachet in the middle of the road. Another rider went and confronted him and I reported him via email to the PPA. Is this the best way to address the problem and is there a strategy to get rid of riders that litter along the road? It is ofcourse difficult to prove since it is his word against mine.
