  1. Gears are slipping in low gears (2nd and 3rd only). Does this require a tweak or will it need something more substantial... Off to my LBS tomorrow - want to prep myself just in case...
  2. The skeptics @ratbag.com found this empirical evidence for PB's claims: "Well, they certainly improve the strength of the retailer's bank balance, so I guess they do have an effect on both strength and balance. What they do for the purchaser is make them feel stronger and more balanced because their wallets will feel easier to pick up and won't pull down on one side of the body as much."
  3. Wouldn't beat myself up about it. Most of us will have to spend more hours in the saddle this festive season to accommodate all the rich food and copious amounts of booze! If you want some professional assistance I know a very good dietician...
  4. Finally stopped - even the sun is trying to come out and the birds are singing Pool looks like a hippo's spa
  5. Bit of a luddite when it comes to bike mechanics... The other day toward the end of a leisurely cycle I noticed that on occassion it would sound and feel as if I had slipped a gear. On inspection it seemed the gear hadn't in fact slipped but the associated noise and feeling was still apparent. Help - what am I doing wrong. Bike just returned from a service...
  6. According to a quick internet search entries close at 12h00 on 10th December (see: http://www.cyclelab.com/OnLine%20Entries.aspx?type=Road Events). However this may be online entries only.
  7. Both of mine are on their bikes everyday. It's a herd mentality - we're in an Estate where the kids in our lane range from 3 to 9. The bikes range from JD Bugs to small-framed bikes (12"-16") with trainer wheels to larger bikes sans trainer wheels. Easy to see which pool the kids are congregating at as there's a mini bicycle pile-up at the front of one of the houses... Thus best tip to get your kids riding - get them to mix with other children who ride. A nice way to do this is to have a lazy, healthy weekend breakfast. We cycle out towards the cradle and go to one of the country restaurants (we have been favouring Something Country - approximately 45 km)get the wives and kids to drive out (with the kids bikes) and meet the riders for breakfast. Something Country has a bike track so the kids can go and burn off their breakfast and hot chocolate while you get to enjoy adult time with another cappuccino . Afterwards put your bike on the rack, drive home and contemplate what to do with your day...
  8. Is registration closed or can you register on the day?
  9. I see a Darwin Award coming... see www.darwinawards.com
  10. Something in the air - reading the Kiwi papers online there seems to have been a spate of motorists hitting cyclists to such an extent that the government are considering establishing a public inquiry.
  11. Cajees service is poor. The staff are apathetic and management is greedy. Too many good LBS around so no need to sweat it - just go elsewhere.
  12. 1. The great crowds 2. The dude playing Message To You Rudy @ Rosebank 3. The peeps manning the water tables 4. The finish line...
  13. The staff do seem disinterested at Cajees Fourways. Neverthelss, there are some excellent LBS in the area, so until ownership/management get to grips with it go to Solomons, Linden, Cycle Tech (Kyalami) or Cycle Lab (- if you've got the $$$)!
  14. What's better for a road cycling? A flat bar or a drop bar? Looking at the Scott S50 but not sure about the flat bar it has...
