  1. Ready to go... Alarm set for 4am. Toe-warmers - check Woollen socks - check Long cycling pants - check Short sleeve vest - check Long sleeved vest - check Cycling jacket (fleeced) - check Long fingered gloves - check Scarf - check Beanie - check Jeppers - if you see a Michelin Man lookalike on a bike early tomorrow morning in the northern suburbs then it's probably me
  2. Lou Zealand

    Crashes

  3. Went to SW on the weekend (Fourways Crossing) but to no avail. Picked some up at CL on Monday... but paid a bit more than R100
  4. Spend the extra R50 and get a bottle of Black Bush
  5. Going to get colder... JHB min for next two days are -2^C, -2^C and -1^C Brrrr!
  6. That's why the only useful medal I have in my "man-drawer"* is the dischem ride for sight medal... it's a bottle opener * with apologies to Michael McIntyre
  7. Yep, that rings true Pretty bizarre but I have also just done the "buy some winter gloves" thing but in order to literally kick-start early am rides I need toe warmers and there seems to be a shortage of them in the northern suburbs... Too true - even worse when you're the one under a lampost
  8. Er, Google has heard of "Nomell Forwarding"... but only in reference to this thread
  9. Too much bucks Boet... Check out the "Anyone want to help this Dad" thread
  10. We've all done it and (typically) it sets you back big time. After trying to get back on the saddle too early I prolonged my recent head cold and even now feel that my cycle fitness has regressed significantly
  11. Greg Henderson has won the third stage of the Tour of California and now shares the tour leader's yellow jersey with Sky teammate Ben Swift. Henderson, lead-out man for Swift yesterday, kept his head in a chaotic sprint finish of the 196km stage from Auburn to Modesto to score a five hour, 14 minutes, 29 seconds win. Swift won yesterday's 123km shortened stage after the perfect set-up from Henderson and the Sky team, and shares the yellow jersey with Henderson in 8hr 01min 31sec.
  12. I pay the taxes but still no vote... unlike JFK I cannot claim 'burger' status. I am a "nie S.A. burger"
  13. Read the following and was taken aback by the inference that the Tour of California has surpassed the Giro... "The Tour of California is less than a decade old but already has become one of the biggest races on the calendar. It has a better field than the Giro d'Italia, which is into its second week. Among the favourites for overall winner are Levi Leipheimer from Team RadioShack, current world champion Thor Hushovd of Garmin Cervelo, George Hincape of BMC, Andy Schleck of Leopard Trek and Peter Sagan from Liquigas-Cannondale." Hubbers' thoughts?
  14. When I was last in Windhoek I was informed by a local resident that the water is the cleanest in the world... because it has been through seven sets of kidneys by the time it gets to your lips!
  15. Peanut butter sandwiches using low GI bread. It's da bomb
  16. Postcard Man Propagating crap spelling since....
  17. Heh heh, I like it when one finds out you're from Kiwiland (Tornadoland, actually) and they say then you must know their cousin who moved to Tauranga in 1985... classic .
  18. Stormers lost. Sharks won. Last weekend sad; this weekend happy.
  19. Just chuck Sonny Bill Williams on whatever bike you don't like and then tell the world he's overrated... oh have we tried that already
  20. Hi Johan, Just out of curiosity, how would one (technically challenged) assess 0.5% wear!! FWIW, I had issues with gear slipping (in low gears) and for R50 Cycle Lab reshaped the hanger and re-calibrated/adjusted the gears... R500 seems pretty steep especially when there is no appreciable improvement
  21. +1 Did the beginners clinic and would recommend it. While she's off with the beginners you can ride a 50-80km loop and meet her back for a coffee/brunch. Very civilised... Only go for the tandem if you looking to end your marriage...
  22. Condolences to the family, friends and loved ones. However this should not be a premise for an argument on lawlessness in SA society. There have been several cycling fatalities in NZ during the past 12 months - enough for a commission of enquiry to be ordered. I would venture that as a society is a collective of individuals then individuals need to be accountable for the integrity of that society...
  23. Find this astonishing if true. I mean 40... per day! Where are these stats sourced from? Going to give me nightmares (or another excuse to shirk the early morning coffee rides in winter )
