  1. So they weren't even sure if the event was going to take place, but they eagerly accepted entry fees. What if they did not get the go ahead. Would they have refunded everyone, or hide behind some clause in their rules? Demand a full refund if that's what you want.
  2. That's what made this race unique, pmb start to Dbn finish. That's why riders fork out a rough R550 to ride a route which is usually off limits. Leaving the news about the route change until AFTER the entries close, was strategic. Less riders than entries, more 'keep money', less expenses without adjusting the entry fee. Bunch of skelms.
  3. 2 Dutch riders sat in front in the peloton when Anna broke away. Don't say they didn't take notice. It's like the commentator said: did riders forget how to think for themselves.
  4. Will be 14/15th one this year . But my aim is to get to the SPCA booth at the expo early enough to get a S riding shirt. They never have enough stock and I am left staring at XXL sizes. Every time I see someone riding with the dog/cat shirt I want to push him off his bike...
  5. Green, blue, red, it doesn't make me faster. Rather a sliding scale for discount on entry fees. The more you have completed, the more your discount will be.
  6. Not a cool reply. Some parents take their kids out on the 10km ride. These kids are NOT on 29ers nor duals. The grass sections suck them in and make it very difficult to ride. They end up pushing their bikes most of the time. Fit enough to ride the 10km, not walk it.
  7. Don't you have a local II tracking number yet?
  8. The organisers missed the mark with the 15km funride. 340m elevation over 15km! Rode with my sister and felt sorry for the moms and dads who took their young kids out on this ride. Good thing I decided to leave my 3yr old at grandma instead of taking him with in the carrier like I normally do on short rides. Out and back on the same route is also always a disaster. Saw a broken ankle, bloody nose and on a funride.what the hell
  9. The race venue is next to Bpoort resort, and the resort does not allow day visitors when they are fully booked.all facilities are on the other side of the gate.
  10. Allegedly outsiders removed route markings and threw stones at riders on the 10km route. Fortunately hubby and our 3yr old rode upfront and missed the excitement.
  11. Some were very vocal about what they perceive to be a negative influence ASG has on events. Perhaps that got them thinking why do they even bother.
  12. Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere: Zenon Birkby of Ridefast Magazine was tragically killed in a motorcycling accident last week. His name has been mentioned on downhill threads on the hub before, so a keen cyclist too. RIP.
  13. And perhaps the reason why the organisers downplay the protests somewhat. It may open a door for requests for refunds if the protests were the only reason for cancellation and they did nothing to prevent the disruption. it sounds as if the protest was intended to disrupt the race, pre- planned, and had nothing to do with the fires but instead about land. But more factors were in play as already mentioned. I get the riders' frustration even if they don't blame anyone.
  14. I feel for the fire victims and all must be done to help them. That being said, this country is held hostage by individuals' illegal barracading and protests of popular routes. Only this week Gautengers endured 3hr delays around ORT airport, Boksburg town was a no go zone, and Pretoria barracaded by trucks. Now this. It's fair to say Joe Public is now gatvol. And perhaps a rant on the wrong thread, but it needs to be said. Feeling better, thanks
  15. He is not saying to turn a blind eye to the victims. This is a serious threat to the future hosting of the event. Imagine the revenue that the city will lose out on if people don't feel safe to ride this event in future.
  16. Go back to your hotels, and hit the buffet breakfast hard. That's what I would do. Nothing like comfort eating to ease the disappointment.
  17. I feel for you guys.I heard flights are also affected. Just check.
  18. Crits are different. Nobody rides a long distance race at max output 100% of the time. Organisers obviously need to fit in the ladies finish before the cavalry elites get there. As long as the majority women are happy, we should all let it go.
  19. Never met Barry, but I enjoyed his: 'Angela Day walked past my desk' antics on the hub. I'd buy myself something sweet and delicious to devour shortly thereafter.
  20. Whatever their reason, but only days before the event?Surely the request didn't happen yesterday. Selling ladies racing short, I think.
  21. Yes, you had duplicate numbers.I was called "Hendrik" when I passed the finish line. What the hell. My 10 yr old SAS # says I am female at every other race.
  22. Apparently the run started late and the 30 km mtb started earlier.
  23. Boo to the organisers to start the event earlier without notification. Missed my start and some trail runners had to turn back early to be on time for the mtb. Andrew Mclean, you are a true gentleman. Despite leading the 70km event he waited until I slow peddled through the vlei before he passed me. Didn't know the longer distance caught up with us so when he asked for track, I told him he'll have to wait, I can't change my line now????. I have less flattering things to say about sussa who rode the lead quad. You need to be educated how to pass riders. Good thing Andrew had such a big lead otherwise that wrong turn she took him on may have cost him the race. Route markings dried up 7km from the finish and it was a guess how to get to the finish.
