  1. It doesn't sound lekker to say they pull less riders than the argus. So I think they manipulate the number a bit. Previous years the entries were sold out but this year late entries were available at registration. Numbers are down and I think the entry fee has a lot to do with it. Times are tough for some.
  2. Steyn city hill is a killer on tired legs. Now diamond rush next week and then a well deserved break from the bike.
  3. @ The expo: dischem selling 32GI products cheaper than their neighbours: 32GI stand ????????
  4. Last year it was chaos trying to get to the pen. Over eager Riders crowded the entrance even though they were like 10-15 groups down from what group was loading at the moment.
  5. spare wheel stolen off the car at this crap venue. A boring unimaginative 40km route :-( A disappointing day
  6. Sadly too many places to take short cut and then inaccurate results in the end, even for some top places in the 60km.
  7. Cool to be able to 'check in' online and just to have your board scanned and the 'collect and go' at reg. Not so cool if they tell you to go join the 50+ queue outside for reg anyway.
  8. It was a 41km effort with 730m of climbing. Dual carriage was a stupid idea. Almost got taken out by a 70km rider bolting down the hill on the wrong side of the track: you?
  9. I did, nice route around the orchards and dam, not very technical. But a big jump in difficulty from the 20km to the 40km. I rode their 45km for years until I've had enough of the hike up that rocky ascent each year.
  10. Contemplating taking the supporter bus. Price? Your website is still very 2015.
  11. No need to be catty. A question was asked, answer it like an adult.
  12. It's not about lack of compassion. It costs a pretty penny to get to cape town, it seems not much thought went in to the route. There's no rule that says the race has to stay in town. 55km inland and back. Sadly it's too close to the date for refunds on hotel and flights. Can the locals suggest a route to head out on after the ride to make the day worthwhile?
  13. Don't know if it's been mentioned (not going to scan 100+ pages) I tried to follow the live race on tv. Besides poor picture quality on a clear day, the commentating was killing me. Robyn de Groot brought some new info on the ladies race, but that Harding fellow is not cut out to be a live commentator. Asked to comment on the ladies event happening in front of him on the screen, captain obvious continued to hammer on the men's results, quoting their times by the millisecond.
  14. Not really, it's quite funny. I am also a female mixed tandem rider and I find the Le Mans girly start very amusing! Were the husbands/boyfriends too slow to get to the line? I also laugh at some of the aunties on the back of tandems, chirping other riders. Bet some of them won't be so opinionated if they were on a single bike. But don't exclude the cocky chirps from single riders. Bottom line, in racing single bikes and tandems should stay away from each other. Single bikes want to slip the tandem on flats and (want to) drop them on the climbs. It's a love/hate relationship that will never work.
  15. Simple. Cap the entries at X amount of riders. But greed prevailed.
  16. Glad you got your bike back. The police arresting you for theft, based on what evidence, case reported, claimant? They hardly investigate the reported cases. What a messed up world we live in.
  17. If you want to keep it cycling related: Owen Hannie. like a parrot on exactly what Andrew just said =ffwd. (only those who started riding ages ago, know who he is, what he did, etc.) Time to look for a replacement for him. Sports related: Naas. After 20 years on tv as rugby presenter and his pronunciation makes me ill.
  18. If that is the case, the driver was unlawfully negligent. (you said the requirements for a guilty charge) The driver failed to check his blind spot before turning. Checking a blind spot is an integral (lawful) part of turning left or right, the current drivers license tests insist on it. He neglected to do so.
  19. If I had to keep score each time a person called maer gat, stokkies, spaghetti string, aids ridden (yeah, can you believe it), I'd have the complex you are suffering from. It runs both ways. The guys are just poking fun at the riders.
  20. It's somewhere on the M1, not even 10 km from the start. You can run there in that time.
  21. Sheez dude, where's the 'dislike this' button?
  22. Noooooo! Dishonest people (who won't tell) have been bailing out on long distance routes since I can remember. It screws up the results, make the full distance warriors look bad and make the cheaters walk away with prizes. :-( At the recent Northern farm event you could see the tyre tracks across the veld as riders cut out 3-4 km of the route. Once you start it, you finish it. Please don't rely on people's honesty to say something because they won't.
  23. I hope the cyclist is okay. If the pics show place of impact, I'm not sure if the cyclist could've ridden much more to the left. Straight road, no intersections, good visibility. These days some drivers do everything else but to concentrate on the road. :-(
  24. So the distance dropped considerably, yet the BIG entry fee remained? R230 for an 80km. Pffft Had a look at the venue on google. Sad state of affairs. Good luck with the start groups and finish on that narrow road in.
  25. It's a good idea in principle: anything to combat theft. But this system will only be effective if the bike is recovered. With police force stretched thin as it is, I doubt if they will they go round and enforce random scanning. Also microdot technology is linked to the natis system. Will they run a separate data roll for bicycles? Perhaps wait for the new application as I've seen micro dots come off the minute the area is heated slightly.
