  1. Was CSA the organiser of this event? Strange how they lecture organisers how to present a CSA sanctioned event, but they can't get it right themselves? I knew it was going to be disastrous if the Tour of SA spectacle is anything to go by. And how do you offer full road closure but mention in the same breath the route wants to go through as many west rand municipalities as possible (at month end). How will Joe Public know about the event if only a hand full cyclists knew about it? Sadly it's more than just teething problems. If CSA can't even watch out for cyclists' safety, it's not worth giving this race another go.
  2. Perhaps, but try to book a flight in oct, and you may pay R2400-R2800 return even with vitality's max discount.
  3. Heard the CEO on radio last week. They're the a new low cost airline. They've been big on chartered flights for years. Currently only doing the CPT-JNB leg. They say response on their introductory flights have been huge, perhaps check later dates?
  4. Safair has introductory prices of R750 one way between cape town and Jnb.
  5. They should try that nonsense with the Benoni group. Got caught by them on Atlas road once. One of the their guys crossed wheels and he bounced hard. They left him for dead...
  6. The one with the sleeveless white shirt? I saw a woman being escorted to the medic tent at the finish. She walked on her own, but seemed a bit out of it.
  7. Didn't you get the memo? But seriously, that dude should invest in a camelbak. Carrying two spare tubes around your waist is not energy efficient.
  8. From what I heard, it was cold and very windy. to those who remembered their food donations. Free dry fit short sleeve fitted shirt (thank goodness for minimal print work.)
  9. Love this event and it's for a good cause. Pity they don't mention online their request for donations. But this year I'll spectate - and enjoy the way the riders miscalculate the loooong finishing straight.
  10. I picked up an entry form at Race for Victory yesterday. No doubt the elites will go to pick up the big prize purse on offer but with the early morning trek to Potch and the R230 entry fee and a somewhat boring out-and-back route, we might just go for Meals on wheels (R130) in Heidelberg.
  11. They should actually not hook on to any group. They need to limp home by themselves and stop interfering with open groups who catch up to them. I know of a Medscheme rider who will soon meet his match if he carries on with his wild moves in bunches who catch up with him.
  12. Since (cycling news) and ASG took over some races, the entry fees soared drastically, with no betterment on the previous events. Traffic out of Jacaranda event last year was a mess, we stood for 45min, the intersection 500m before the finish congested and unmanned, no loo's in a 1km radius of the main parking, blah blah blah. They practically killed my beloved Jock event with the high entry fee I've been riding since '98 . Did I miss ASG's regretful response as to what happened at the Krugersdorp Game Reserve's mtb event and what precautions they will take in future?
  13. I've been to a few homes in my lifetime, but thanks for the offer. I am sure a lot of homes battle to stay afloat and conditions are dire. We're talking specific jacaranda home. You've been?
  14. Narrow minded thinking. The children's home is taken care of on basic level by donations from public and other organisations etc. If someone is prepared to take care of these kids' needs other than that, let them. Why can't a children's home have extracurricular activities? It makes for a well balanced individual.
  15. Failed at it 2 years in a row, missed it by 6 min. Did my 11/12th last year, I'm sitting this one out. Let's hope the organisers keep psycho wives in double cabs off the CLOSED circuit this year, driving behind an aged VB rider, hanging on for dear life and they have not even hit Witkoppen.
  16. The online entries said 'timed by championchip'. It was mentioned at registration and on the start line. Where were you?
  17. You were technically still in the 60km/h zone, you sped up before you got to the increased zone. Pay up, why wait for a summons, road block, shitters to hit the fan. A prosecutor will see your argument doesn't have merit. The 300m rule carries no weight in your case. Plead guilty, but ask for a reduced fine. Then pay up. Nasty trick from metro, though.
  18. That off ramp tollgate used to be cheaper (by half) . The carousel's logo on the tollgate receipt means they're getting something off that R40. But it would've been nice to get the benefit as race goers as if we entered through their main gate for free.
  19. We've done so the past few years. It's high time that all organisers be a bit more accommodating with collecting numbers on the day. Who wants to take 2hrs from work and burn R200 in petrol to pick up a race number? I've said it many times, if my number is not there on the day, I ride without it. The race is timed, you're entered. What the problem is?
  20. Let's hope that brown mark below the scuff mark is dirt and not because he pooped himself. At least pull down your shirt to cover that ugly white bum, for goodness sake.
  21. Or get your head out of the sand? It's old news that Hunter phoned Impey when he got the yellow. Thought Leon to be a bigger man than tweeting such rubbish.
  22. Different tune from the message on the website earlier where no extension or day entries were possible. Numbers down perhaps? Weather cannot be colder than last year. Let's hope they mark the course somewhat better and not wait for someone to fall them to pieces on the drop off a 100m from the finish before they make a plan.
  23. I feel sorry for your gf/wife because I am usually in the same position. If all 40km riders slog on/walk the same pace on the 40km route you hardly expect faster riders to also want to share the track. But place the blame on a lazy organiser who didnt bother to scout for more trails to seperate the 2 distances. Who in their right mind merges the long and short distances for the last 37km? It's a recipe for disaster and fritz and his team should've known better, shame on you guys. Last year's route was fine. Hope she heals up quick.
  24. It's like that in any industry. If we had to throw our toys each time a retailer wants to rip us off, we'd be VERY unhappy people. Move on and shop somewhere else.
