  1. Presumably you already have a helmet, gloves, bib, shoes etc from mtb'ing so the full budget is for the bike?
  2. " Oct last year. " 2010 or 2009?
  3. Another one lost to the dark side... If you put slicks on your mtb you will be 95% as fast as a road bike.
  4. I was at Van Galens on Sunday - did mammoth seven and a half hours ride! Erik says the River route is now fixed up - he had a team of guys cutting the paths out from under the silt - I rode a section at the top and it was fine. Avoid oom Piets though - we hit wet clay there and the clearance between fork/frame and tires was too small and I couldn't get more than a few wheel rotations before it all seized up. Carried bike 2km in an hour. Was fun in retrospect. We did the new 'Dagga' route on the other side of conrete road mountain - very nice - van Galens is really the best destination for MTB that I have been.
  5. Whoops. Should have been posted to 'Rant and Rave' - can't figure out how to change this.
  6. They have been advertising as a four star mountain biking destination in the Tread lately and me and the wife wanted to go away for some mountain biking on the weekend. So we booked. To cut a long story short we were only able to ride the short bike park trails (an area about 2km by 2km)because the other rides were unmarked and needed to be accompanied by a staff member - who kept dodging this with stupid excuses. Finally we checked out early so we could at least ride at van Galens on Sunday. Bottom line. Wasted 7 hours of driving and R1800 on a bike park ride. Edit: I have been contacted by them and offered a second chance to experience the resort at their cost. I will update once this has occured. Second edit: They contacted me and gave me a second chance to re-evaluate their service and riding. I found it to be excellant. The riding was some of the best single track I have ever ridden - especially the downhills - service was top notch, food was top notch, company was top notch from other mtn bikers on the so called training weekend. Conclusion: My bad experience was a once off and they are serious about giving guests a good time - go ahead and enjoy.
  7. ***sigh***
  8. WRT to the Schwables (Rons and Ralphs) are they both available in UST, I seem to recall the Rons being only Non UST...? UST Rons are available. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=39405http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=39405
  9. "I stood in the store and had a UST and non-UST and I could not tell the difference between the sidewalls. The two extreems would be Maxxis with L.U.S.T and then something like the Kenda Karma non-UST - you can see the difference in sidewall thickness!" I use Schalbe's (Rocket Ron's - Racing Ralph) and the difference is noticable. Additionally, all UST tires weigh more than Non-UST - the difference in weight is the sidewall rubber. I can't speak for other brands.
  10. I experimented with non-UST tubeless...and three sidewalls later I gave up. Also, the non UST lose pressure fast (say over a week) so you are always pumping them. The only thing I dislike about UST is that are a real pain to put on.
  11. Yes. For real. Round about the year 1970-1975. The company's name was Foodcorp.
  12. Interesting story: Many years ago my father was the food scientist in charge of developing pronutro. It was originally intended as a product for the blacks (under the old regime) that would prevent malnutrition having all essential dietary requirements included. It was tested on thousands and thousands of rats who were starved to the point of death and then fed Pro-nutro. My father quit a t some stage due to issues with killing the rats. It was a complete failure - the blacks never liked it and they had a product they could not sell. They then modified the recipe a bit for taste and marketed it to the whites. It was then successful.
  13. Just shave it off with a razor.
  14. Per the description CRC only ship Mavics to the EU.
  15. Why are triathlon bikes any different from road bikes? Just wondering?
  16. Nice colourscheme on the bike overall, btw.
  17. Cube possibly asked Shimano for an OEM only version. Or someone at Cube was having fun with Photoshop.
  18. Stick a Blue Bulls stick on the side of the frame where there is the empty white section
  19. Ordered some rotors on Royal Mail..will probably never see them...Parcelforce, about eight orders this year and no problems. UK Airports being closed does not help...
  20. Can I convert a front wheelset to a rear wheel set by having the lbs replace the hub with one that can take a cassette? Or are there other differences between a front wheel and a rear wheel? (I ride MTB if that makes any difference)
  21. How it all ends in my mind's eye:
  22. Four cracked frames and want one? What if it breaks at massive speed on a rocky descent and completly shears?
  23. My experience was the opposite: Assos (R2000) was heaven while First Ascent and Giodano (R800 ea) was pure sandpaper.
  24. Agree with Sharkie - get the GT. Google ghetto tubeless - you can do your own for less than R250. Specialised is more of a Mercedez Benz brand...
