  1. Hope all the way, have always found the Avids noisy.
  2. Here in the UK it is the most common type of XC racing. We don't have the wide open spaces like SA and USA to do the marathon thing. When I entered my first race I was very confident because I thought I was fit, how hard can it be? Big mistake!! I cramped badly on the last lap and thought I was going to die. Riding at your limit for 2 hours on a technical course needs getting used to. Also, one gets swept into the competitive frenzy with 100+ riders also going balls out! But what a buzz, I was back for more a month later and better prepared. Been doing it for the last 5 years and not regretting it Zipping around non stop singletrack for a couple of hours , whats not to like?!
  3. Now that is a 'k@k storie' he spun the cops , for sure. Very unlikely that the kind Yank will give away a bike to someone without changing the eggbeaters. He is so kind to give away an expensive bike, but not considerate enough to think of the new owners safety??? Very, very unlikely ...
  4. Edman , let me know if this still doesn't get sorted in the next few days. It does look like you got their attention now though. I live about a 25 min drive from their HQ at Crawley where they do their online sales from as well. Happy to go over there and talk to their customer services in person. Hanno
  5. Why don't you contact Litspeed and ask their opinion. Is it possible that there is some build-up of sorts inside the the seat tube?
  6. Carbon is not just about saving weight, but about comfort. As a material it absorbs shock better and has a bit of flex to it. I have also this to add, wear some protection over your mouth when cutting, you don't want to be inhaling carbon dust.
  7. Veloce has the right method to align the calliper. But seriously, you have to take the bike back to the shop. The scratches on a new bike that you paid good money for is unacceptable !
  8. Mmm, all sorts of fugly ^^^^up there ( looks like art students on acid let loose on a papier mache bike project ) , but the Storck is gorgeous !
  9. If Phizer sponsored the white socks it would explain why the socks stayed up so well...
  10. That looks like its going to be one mean Fixie, or are you just going to ss it? I am looking at a 2004 Bianchi Pista frame on Ebay at the moment. Very tempted to get it. It looks like the one in the pic, although it is not that one. ( Can't copy the pics on Ebay) Here is the Ebay linky: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130485836732&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1267wt_1141
  11. Sounds all right then Mr Dangle, all you need now is a newspaper and you can open a corner shop
  12. I have no idea what used to be in goodie bags, care to tell a bit more?
  13. Aye Scotty, Contador knew exactly what he was doing. Can't wait to see Andy in yellow in Paris
  14. I have always liked Contador, but last year he attacked when Schleck had trouble. That made me like him less. We don't really know if he cheated, only he will ever really know, but the fact that he attacked Schleck when he did says a lot more about the man than did he drug or not.
  15. Duckhunter, are you referring to the MSG's in the packet of flavouring that you can add to the noodles or are there MSG's in the noodles itself?
  16. We all know that pasta is a highly rated food source for cyclists. Are noodles ( as in the easy diy packet) good cycling food as well? My gut feeling is to think it should be, cos it is similar to pasta in texture and taste. Am I right?
  17. Cheers Velo, that is good news
  18. I am referring to the freehub. Some adverts for the wheels say 8,9,10 spd compatible, but the wheels I am wanting to buy just state 10 speed. LeTurbo, I Googled the question and it looks like you could come right with the correct spacers. I will try and find a link for you , but it is no use to me cos my son is using Shimano.
  19. I want buy a new pair of wheels for my son's road bike. He uses 8 speed Tiagra shifters, will I be able to use an 8speed cassette on a 10 speed hub. The wheels I want to buy are Campy Khamsins. Like these http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Campagnolo-Khamsin-Pair-Road-Wheels_27175.htm If one can't run it like that, could I use a 10 speed cassette and will it work with the 8 speed shifters, except for not shifting into the last 2 cogs?
  20. I would keep the Fox and sell the RS. If it was a SID Team then I would have kept it and sold the Fox, but since it is a SID Race I would keep the FOX.
  21. Here in England the same debate rages. But 29'ers have reached their popularity max here and are still considered a 'niche' bike and not the next big thing or must have. Reason for this is largely down to our terrain (talking bout xc race courses here), i.e lots of tight twisty singletrack and short sharp climbs which apparently don't suit large wheels? I can see though why 29ers are becoming popular in the USA and RSA with marathon races and wide open spaces the norm. Bit off topic now, but the OP's attitude reminds me a bit of when I was a student back in 1990 (ish) and I went to see the Rolling Stones's Voodoo Lounge Concert @ Ellis Park. At some point during the concert I stopped looking at the stage and focused on the crowd in front of me (we were right at the back due to getting to the concert late after getting a bit lost in Joburg). Every single person in front of me was wearing a pair of blue denims!! I mean you could just see this sea of thousands and thousands of arses in jeans (fat, thin and everything in between ) dancing to the music. I just there and then decided that I didn't wanna be a sheep and consequently did not wear a pair of jeans for the next 3 or 4 years!!! What I am saying here is that it is a bit silly not to like 29'ers just because you are put off by the sheepish attraction some yuppies in your area are showing towards them. Anyway, I am wearing (and loving) jeans again but still ride a 26er
  22. I would rather have a good alu frame than an average carbon one. As for the parts, I will take the best frame ( either alu or carbon ) no matter what the parts, and as the parts wear out I will replace them with good gear. My current bike has an alu frame with a carbon rear triangle, so best of both worlds for me. Looks like this:
