  1. My philosophy too.. Guests getting a double?? Unheard of!! Half of them will think it's too strong anyway.
  2. I have a method. If I'm not happy with the shot it automatically becomes a cappuccino, If it was good enough - it's an espresso. (When brewing for myself)
  3. I think it's much of a muchness. There are so many factors that would contribute to what your end temp will be. Cup, Shot, etc. I've never tried that either. Maybe I should. I've seen guys texture a lot of milk and then portion into smaller jugs and pour each cup with a new portion. Haha. That is true. If they aren't paying they can't really complain. I guve my guest the fancy looking one and drink the average looking one.
  4. I think the milk is supposed to be 60deg C, air should stop being introduced at 40deg. I guess after a while you'll just know instinctively when to do what. My biggest issue at the moment is getting them even when I make 2. I don't want to steam milk twice you know. There must be a technique.
  5. I got a thermometer becuase all my guests were complaining that it wasn't hot enough. Then i actually found it is a good tool to judge when to stop introducing the air and when to submerge the wand and conctrate on the spinning. Now I have a feel for it I dont use the thermometer as often and am getter a better consistency - the wet paint type milk.
  6. Did anyone else start under the impression it would be 35km there and back and end up riding 55km?
  7. What is an ultrasonic cleaner?
  8. Always great wisdom from you.
  9. What is the general view on precision filter baskets and shower screens? Checked footage of both of them in action and the water flow seems to be far more consistent and evenly spread.
  10. What does it mean of the beans are unpredictable and don't offer the same results day after day?
  11. Did anyone go to the roadshow at Bean There last night? If you didn't you should definitely check out the event at Koldserve in Randburg tonight. Invaluable information! http://puristcoffee.com/2014/02/04/there-is-no-x-in-espresso-roadshow-review/
  12. WHAT!!!! http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-coffee-makers/edgemead/espresso-machine-nuova-simonelli/1001087434440910063655809
  13. Stiffness, Geometry and over-all build quality. It really feels unbreakable. I could never get comfortable and confident on the momsen in the technical stuff, it felt like I didn't have much control. Get onto the highball and it feels like you are almost sitting "in" the bike. It really becomes very easy to control and it's extremely responsive. I'd be happy to let you ride it if you want to. Kind of like comparing a Porsche to a VW City Golf.
  14. I've had the Momsen SL729 and when it cracked I got the Highball. Once I rode the Santa Cruz it changed my world. Made the Momsen look silly. If I could chose any MTB on the market, I'd still stay with the Highball.
  15. What grinder did you get Martin?
  16. On a general note: Do you think we can ever have motorist/cyclist harmony without dedicated motoring lanes and dedicated cycling lanes? I'm not sure it's possible. There will always be human error.
  17. I got a tamping mat & group head brush and 6 Glass Cappuccino cups. Awesome! So this may be a silly question but do you guys take that shower mesh part off before back flushing?
  18. I've just come back from Barcelona. I would just like to point out that we are blessed here. I didn't have one decent cup of coffee the whole time I was there. I observed some of the guys making the cups and some didn't even tamp!! Most of them pull the shot and then just leave it running for like a minute and then chuck some foamy milk in there and charge you 4 Euros. So that wasn't a good experience. On another note, I remember someone posting a make shift way to back flush the oscar without a blank disk. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
  19. Made my first cup. Was a bit of a fail but I think that's to be expected. Haha.
  20. This is why I asked here. Beautiful feedback.
  21. Getting my Oscar this week. Any tips for initial set up?
  22. Some Inner City Portraits
  23. So my saving up to get an Oscar is about halfway there. In terms of grinders though, what do you guys make of those Krups ones (R500) to use till I am able to save up for the real deal. It looks pretty cool to make do for now. Edit: Just seen the reviews. I'll give it a miss.
  24. Yeah sorry man I took it off because I have 2 people interested in buying it. Yours look super cool though. Sometimes minimal editing is the best. I'll post my version when I get home.
