  1. i think we can all agree the organisers really should be made aware of this thread. otherwise it is all just hot air

    947 Ride Joburg

Need to add, those guys handing out the water packets to the faster groups saved me from a really thirsty end. Managed to grab 2 along the way and finished both bottles on the bike before the end of the race. i felt like one of the tour riders for a brief moment being looked after by a soigneur!

    947 Ride Joburg

Really enjoyed my ride in C, had a bunch of riding buddies all in the group. really made it easier to hang on when the going got tough! @Avo also noticed the guy on the E-bike. bizarre. he really should have kept out the way better. but either way not really an issue. I incorrectly assumed C would be an easier ride. Smokes we hauled ass! Timing issues a plenty on this race! 2h36 and some change for me. bizarrely my mate started maybe 15 meters behind me in the pen. we crossed the line together and according to official timing i was over a minute faster than him? another oddity was i was classified as 40+ (i'm 36) just odd. some of my mates got sms confirmations of there times. not for me. just odd. we got dropped off, did the ride and then hopped on the route and road home to Fourways at a far more sedate pace. we had no intensions of sticking around the stadium. just get bad vibes there. some people really do not train for this ride. we saw people on the side of the road lying down or sitting down taking a rest and they had not even made the first water point - long long day ahead of them if the finished. they looked absolutely shattered! water points were great - ice water down the back and on the legs really got the juices flowing again when the temperature started to pick up! i think they could have maybe had a little bit more food on offer.
  4. JHB Stadium is an awful place. yes it works as a venue, but i really despise having to be there. its sorta like a hospital - its a really depressing place to be that just reminds me of how far JHB has fallen. Its hard not to notice just how run down and shoddy it looked. litter everywhere. half finished roads. dumped concrete and scrap everywhere. nevermind the riff raff that pestered people. its just not a safe area at all. i got dropped off, raced and left immediately after. I felt no pull towards wanting to stay in that area at all to experience the after race facilities - they did look pleasant though. but again, even with that i still had no intentions of sticking around is a crummy area of town. all the previous venues were leagues better than the stadium.
  5. i'm 171cm. my 80cm inseam had me on a 54 2020 trek Madone SLR every other bike i ride is a 52.
  6. that is officially this bikes name. GREEN WITH ENVE 🤩
  7. i'm almost certain that 19mm ID with a 2.4 tires is a concern. that rim bed is just not wide enough to adequately support the large tire in corners. i bet you get a very uncomfortable feeling on the bike as those tires effectively roll on the rims. you are well outside the spec for a 19mm rim. see below. try dropping to a 2.25 tire or moving to a much wider 30mm rim and keeping the 2.4 tires. what tire pressure are you running? and as a final note. Dual Sus is much much nicer to ride than a HT. far more confidence inspiring as it allows you to focus on what line to take and not on how to correct for the bump that just threw you marginally off line. that said i still think you will get better feel by just getting the right rim to tire ratio. yours is miles out and is going to make for very uncomfortable descending.
  8. So some good news! Road up the hill today and some of the concrete has been lifted and removed near the bottom. what a pleasure! still some work to be done, but someone needs some kudos anyone know who we need to thank?
  9. small bump up to attract a few more votes
  10. Considering they are tubeless clinchers they are really light at a claimed 1255grams. i think mine were pretty much to spec weight wise. Especially impressive as that includes a rim with a 25mm inner! You could knock off plenty weight by going tubby or if you really want a set tubeless wheels go with the latest Partington wheels(1160g) or the new Syncros Captial SL wheels (1170g)
  11. Bicycle kindly supplied by Riaan at The Peloton. For anyone who is interested: this frameset is a Small, kitted with the Zipp 353 wheels, ex pedals and bottle cages but including 50g of OrangeSeal in each wheel the weight came in at a cool 6.7kgs
  12. nothing really wrong with the food. just comparing the offerings to other events and previous W2W events. this is so far below par compared its scary.
  13. You thought i had forgotten?
  14. Such an awesome event. Food offered was well below other events and needs serious work. I really miss how good the food was in the earlier events. Otherwise excellent
  15. yes, one entry costs R160k and upwards and you are a guaranteed winner of this bike with ENVE 3.4 AR wheels!
  16. So i am going to keep this poll open indefinitely to see how things progress - i fell others might want to vote later down the line when they see other bikes and the options. i'm going to add a new bike each Monday for 5 weeks. then sometime before everyone goes away for Dec we can do a vote on "the best of the best"
  17. Where are you based? Maybe drop a set of wheels off and I’ll add them in on the next bike poll?
  18. Just a bit of fun with the bikes and wheels in stock. each week will be a new bike to vote on 😀
  19. Discovery is quite clever with this basically fit people training correctly are incapable of hitting those targets because they require a HR over X percent. i remember doing 4 hour zone 2 rides and getting nothing for it because my average heart rate was not high enough. if I tried to hit their mark I’d have burnt out in a month. also have high level fitness mates who went for that health test. They failed it on the HR test. Effectively their HR never went up during that walking test so their recovery HR was low and thus a poor fitness result is given. i gave up in the end on discovery. although i do see they have an endurance option - maybe they have listened? it’s been a while… happy Friday!
  20. Here are my lot the 4th one is ready and waiting for the Bastion bike build happening in January next year
  21. Credit where credit is due. these mounts have a really premium build and look to them. i have not seen anything as nice as this full stop. if they were in a Garmin marked box you'd believe they were made by them no questions asked. the perfect solution to all my high end bikes - i'll post a few more close ups tomorrow
