  1. I'm looking to swap Mens L for Ladies M? Which event are you doing?
  2. I just use Ryder water based slime. Cost has gone up - now R55 per bottle 250ml, but works fine and lasts forever and doesn't delaminate tyres. Have mixed it with Joes before - used to use Joes to seal the tyre and then top up with Ryder as it is full of solids - now, if the tyre goes on and seals nicely without sealant, just use Ryder straight.
  3. If anyone is interested in swapping Mens (L) jackets for Ladies (M or maybe L) please let me know. Figure that I have enough jackets, and might be nice to give the missus one.
  4. Google Peter Attia icecream - make your own. There may be a recipe on the first page of this thread. Make sure you're eating enough - cravings can also be hypoglycemia.
  5. Pity, it would have been nice to meet up. I suspect that the sharp end of the Adv/Trail is as competitive as anyone except the sharpest okes would need? I prefer the less stressed atmosphere too - guys are chilled and enjoying... We've had some long days (e.g. the year my twins were born - end of April - destroying my training plans) and the humour at the back of the pack almost makes it worth riding there. I did the first day of last year on water only - my brother had been training by eating pasta and drinking red wine in Italy for a couple of weeks and wasn't in peakest form so it was an easy pace. I finished ok, but have to admit I was not feeling super-charged by the end of the day. The second day I didn't want to play, so judiciously ate. The third day I just tucked in to any goody in sight. I can't say I felt any stronger/faster than when eating judiciously the second day. I ordered a bunch of stuff online before I went on April leave so that it would be waiting for me when I got back and I could freshen up my bike before Sani - granny/middle chain ring, chain, sprocket, BB. Got back to work at the beginning of this week and nada. So got the BB and will go with my commuter worn chain gear. Should be ok, but we will see...
  6. Well, I fitted them on over Joe's and Stan's strips (had only one of each) and they went on like a dream. Pumped them up with no sealant in and using a floor pump. Held full pressure for the full day and I've now just bunged some sealant in. One thing I've learned is that if you can't inflate tyres without sealant in, you can't inflate them with sealant in, and you save a hell of a mess. I've pumped them to 1.3 and 1.6 by my pump which I think is probably 1.5 / 1.8. Definitely handle differently to the Maxxis combo - somehow you 'roll' into the corner now - probably due to the bigger radius of the tyre? My bike looks like a fat bike, but seems to roll just fine. Definitely better than the 2.35 Kenda Nevegal that the bike originally came with. Can't wait to use them in anger.
  7. Thanks Dale. Adventure. Are you doing it this year? Dean, sounds like you've broken the back of adapting...?
  8. JC - I can't find the post that you posted on your Joberg2C experience... Have you refined your thinking on what to do in stage races? Thinking of Sani next week. My plan is to supplement with gels (and feed table goodies) during the race and then try and LC it as much as is possible for meals/outside the race (except beer, which, curiously enough, is important for recovery on Sani). Got any suggestions? Anyone else who has tried LC stage racing?
  9. What? Use EPO? If you have something to contribute, please do so - we welcome useful content. If this is just an advert (which I suspect it is), please delete it and place it in the classifieds. If you have something non-LCHF to discuss, then a new thread is probably what you want.
  10. This also I told myself. Will let you know coming out of the umko valley. Will also run them soft 1.8 and 2.0. Edit: Maybe even 1.5 / 1.8. Problem is that my pump (I think) under-reads, so 1.5 on my pump is probably 1.8. Means that I'll need to pump to 1.2 / 1.5
  11. Got GC 2.3 and FT 2.2. Fatter than I'd have chosen but there are many comments that these tyres are narrower than expected so hopefully will balance out.
  12. Thanks guys. Control version it will be. I like a change now and then - this should be interesting.
  13. Need new tyres in a hurry for Sani Can get Spez GC and FT for R419 ea, in stock and avl. Anybody used them? Thoughts? I'm not a Spez fan so bashing for the sake of bashing will be wasted effort. Replacing Monorail / Crossmark combo.
  14. and here you go... http://cdn.entelectonline.co.za/em-349-cmsdocs/Nedbanksani2c2014finalinstructions.pdf PS: As far as I know, Judy emigrated somewhere a year or two ago? May be right, may be wrong?
  15. Did anyone use their phone for Dusi2C or joberg2c?
  16. I respect what this guy is doing, but as someone who started their photography in the film era and processed their own film and prints - I LOVE digital!!
  17. Regarding the cold starts - I pack arm warmers, a guilet(? vest thingy) that they gave us on a previous Sani and a windproof jacket and full finger gloves. Just take it off and chuck it in my camelbak when it warms up.
  18. FG was on SuperCycling in the last week or two - his comment on the stuff before and after the race is that it is 'fluff' and that as the race is run 'farmer style' this is of little value. Rather concentrate on the physical race issues - building track, coming up with new ideas. Which probably explains why one gets such value for money on this event, compared to others. Remember, he has a daytime job and runs the event out of his house - not to mention runs two other major events (Joberg2C and Dusi2C).
  19. Comments on post exercise supplementation from Loren Cordain - one of the original paleo proponents: http://thepaleodiet.com/alternatives-to-gluconeogenesis-for-rebuilding-post-workout-glycogen-levels/
  20. Seems that stage races are more and more moving to GPS tracking / tracks. What with it being the time of the year that this hourly paid person takes time off for family holiday / sani2c and has no income, what's the cheapest GPS unit that can do this stuff?
  21. Heard Noakes extolling it's virtues a while ago. Strange that he'd do a180. Oh, wait... No, no idea why it has gone out of favour.
  22. Has anyone mentioned Suikerbosrand? Tar, but nice...
